REmake's pre-rendered backgrounds were amazing works of art. That cropping does not feel right at all.
Play in 4:3 then.

I've had a second chance to look at this and the $40 price is really mindboggling, considering what they're doing.
ffx/x-2 remaster retailed at $40 and had new character models, new music (although this is a mixed bag, the effort is more of what i'm talking about here), completely new UI, and they went back and touched up the prerendered backgrounds and CG cutscenes (here's looking at you, GoW 1/2 HD)
OP says 3990 yen, which is nearly $40 US
so what is this? Resident Evil 1 ReReMake?
I don't see it. It's lighter but doesn't look any more real. It just looks like lightning flashed in the window. Now Chris look more like a hollywood action star rather than a real person.
Play in 4:3 then.
The filtered shot looks waaaay better, IMO.
RE4 is the only game to NOT be ported to MT Frameworks in the RE catalog, right? Besides 0 but that hasn't made it anywhere else yet either.
If REmake is making it to MT Frameworks I'd take a guess that CVX HD will appear on PC at some point as well.
edit: oh and those shots are from the PS3 version. Need 360 more Ps to see how good it'll look.

I might be wrong, but I think the HD version runs on the MT framework.
LEFT is the PS2 version, RIGHT is the HD version of Code Veronica.

Japan prices are usually higher. You can't just use the exchange rates to know the price un the USA.
Maybe its just me but right there the remaster looks a bit better.
Get your eyes checked then pally.
Why are RE2 and 3 so much more difficult than the other RE games?Capcom said two years ago that if there was fan demand for a remake of RE2, they would do it, I can't help but think the way they're sort of systematically working from easiest to hardest to port their games to this engine and seem to be doing every RE game, either working their way down to RE2 and RE3 or avoiding them. Maybe checking how sales do on these old games to see if remaking them into the current engine would be a worthwhile investment.

so what is this? Resident Evil 1 ReReMake?
You do know the REmake face model was already the base for the RE5 model right?Retconning so RE5 makes plausible sense.

Exclusivity, is not a real thing apparently.
Will they use that godawful dub again?
Will this get me REmake 2 and 3 because I'm buying it irregardless, I can't wait to play this on PC or PS4.

Guess it's between CVX or 0 on PC next,eh?
Hope they don't ignore 0, even though it is my least favorite RE.
They will probably look better at release on our own monitors. The only negative thing I'm seeing here is the backgrounds, which they can't do much about.
will do.
Whats wrong with it? It looks lighter to me.

Definitely lacks the detail of the newer version. Looking forward to seeing this in its best form.
Watch the video on YouTube, she looks amazing. Please don't mess up Jill.
So that extra 20 dollars is all the difference between locating original assets and rendering at a new resolution (no new content creation necessary), and building an entire new game from scratch, models, textures, CG background sets, writers, voice actors, programmers, directors, producers, etc etc etc... every pixel recreated.
You're mad. Daffy. Bonkers!
Have you ever posted an image on Facebook, and then someone asked for you to print that image out? Rather than taking that low res facebook image through instagram and applying various filters to make it look sharper, you'd go back to the original image file, and export an image at a higher resolution. It's simple. You don't have to re-shoot the photo. You don't need to find the location, attempt to emulate the lighting, call everyone to the location who appeared in the photo originally... no.. You just open the original photo file in MS paint and save it out bigger.
That's basically what they need to do.
They don't need to make a whole new game.
At 40 bucks and let's just say a very meager 70,000 sales, digitally, that's $2,800,000.
Is there not enough profit in there to pay the two or three dudes who just need to take original files and export them at higher resolutions?
Again, that's absolutely nothing like creating an entire game from scratch.
Of course it's unreasonable if they've lost the original assets, I think many people just assume they still have them (as they should, but shit happens), and therefore expect better results.
If they had their stuff together it could be as easy as loading the 3D scene from their files, configuring a better resolution and pressing the magical "render" button, then waiting for some minutes / hours until the rendered image is complete. This could be done automatically even so cost would be minimal.
I think they would've done this if they had the assets, but someone fucked up with backups or something.
Once again, in all likelihood Capcom no longer has the original assets. The 640 x 480 files on the Gamecube disc are probably all that's left.
Please don't mess up Jill.
Yes and No.
