Xbox One- what would it take to get YOU to buy one ?

fund development of some JRPGS that wouldnt be made otherwise. NOT paying for (timed) exclusivity of what would have otherwise been multiplat

Picked the Kinectless one up with Titanfall a couple of weeks ago for £349 new.
I already own PS4 & good PC but for me it was Ryse(now on pc lol) & Forza 5/Forza horizon 2.

Tbh it's getting used more than the other two for now.

Games + better value out of XBL.

But I simply do not trust them anymore, which is sad because I really enjoyed my 360. I don't imagine them gaining my trust back anytime soon.

Wow, I always that it looked pretty good - do you prefer the PS4 UI? As a PS4 owner, one of the things I found underwhelming when I first got it was the UI. Really hope they overhaul it soon.

Personally its just too cluttered.

Not to mention I snap achievements and it launches a game or maybe press B on the dashboard and it launches a game.

Simple design flaws ruin it for me.

First party studios making plenty of non-moneyhatted games. You know, like everyone else does.

I'm not buying their new found attitude towards DRM either. I don't trust them, they ignored their hardcore fans and waited until the wider market made things clear for them before reversing their policy. There'll probably need to be a few more personnel changes at the top of the Xbox arm of MS tbh.

The more I think about it the more I realise that Forza Horizon 2 is the only exclusive I want so it kind of makes it hard to justify buying one.

But if I could get a new one with Kinect and FH2 for £250 I would bite. Figure I would buy some other racing games on it instead of the PS4 anyway since the triggers are better.

Nothing at all. They fucked up pre-launch with their stupid policies, the console is weaker than the PS4, and almost none of their games excite me. Trust is hard thing to earn and they screwed everyone over. They could even give one to me free and I wouldn't accept it/I would sell it immediately.

I'm perfectly content with PC + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS + iOS for the rest of the generation.

This is really considered a feature for some?

I accepted it last gen (360) and I dealt with it for the the Wii U, but I'm becoming more and more a minimalist for physical items. My gaming library has moved all digital across all the platforms. Extra clutter bothers me.

This is not me demanding that Microsoft bend to my needs and make a less cluttered system, this is me saying, "hey, if it happens anyways, I'll be more apt to get one"

Honestly can't think of anything except something crazy like Mirror's Edge 2, next Deus Ex etc. being exclusive. And it'd take a few of those games to make it worth it. I have a good PC and I've been fine with just one console on top of it, now I have a Wii U and if I do end up buying another one it'll be a PS4 (more powerful, more interesting exclusives for now, I already have a Vita for remote play/cross-buy and such).

There's that word again. Money-hat. We only have what, one Xbone game that was a definite money hat? Titanfall?

--

I'm holding out for one as a birthday present. :P

the MCC has me semi tempted but I really can't warrant spending $400 plus the fee for live just for MCC and probably Halo 5

What's the problem? I want them to actually make their own games rather than pay companies to not release their own games on rival platforms.

Games that your are interested in?

There are already a decent number of XB1 games that aren't on PC.

True, but even their two biggest games this year are playable elsewhere (All the Halos and FH2 are on 360). The only real exclusives the come to mind are QB (which I see eventually landing on PC), SO (to which MS doesn't own the IP so same), and the CGI trio of which we know nothing. Oh, and Fable legends, but that game is meh (and all the other Fables landed on PC so wouldn't be surprised at this one making the jump). So yea, I can see his point

Am I missing something?

I already own a PS4 and Wii U. As a result, I'd need a price drop and, most importantly, lots of exclusive games that interest me. Especially niche Japanese games.

That's how development funding usually works. Something I actually prefer because I like to see those devs not be restricted to one single platform with future titles.

Am I missing something?

Scalebound, Phantom Dust and Crackdown??

Games pretty much but even then I don't know if that would do it. Made a promise to myself that this gen I was only going to buy 1 and so far I'm more than happy with the PS4 and what it's got coming.

Nothing. Swore off Microsoft hardware after the 360 RRoD stuff when my third console died within a year.

I would consider a PS4 MAYBE once they were $200 or less

I freakin love Halo so unless something comes up I'll probably be buying one this fall for Master Chief Collection. If I wasn't such a huge Halo fan though there's no way I'd buy one right now. If things don't shape up soon it might go the way of the Dreamcast. If Halo wasn't an issue PS4 seems to be the console to have this time around with Wii U for nintendo, bayonetta, and niche games like Wonderful 101.

Oh yeah, the rrod soured me on them too. It wasn't even the hardware fault in the first place that annoyed me. If they'd just held their hands up and admitted it, then replaced all the consoles I'd have been ok with that. But they didn't, they tried to hide it, and didn't replace any console over 1 year old despite them knowing it was their own design flaw. It took the media to eventually push the matter before they caved.

Don't other companies do that? Isn't that what funding is?

Not to mention some other companies market their version so hard that people aren't aware the game is on other platforms, even though it is.

I also had a an original Xbox and a 360 on two occasions, but ended up selling them. I guess that me and Xbox are not meant to be; therefore, no X1 4 me.

At this point I'm pretty content just sticking with the PS4. Destiny is scratching that Halo itch and then-some.

I don't really have enough time to juggle multiple systems much anymore. I'll probably just wait until the end of the generation and pick an Xbox One up for cheap and get what I missed out on. Microsoft doesn't have the strength of Sony's first parties to really justify the Xbox One as a secondary console.

Nothing. I am perfectly content with what I have and care nothing for Microsoft and the Xbox brand. Too many mistakes, ridiculous comments, and dumb policies have ensured I will never buy one of their consoles again.

More money in my account, I already want one but I'm going back to college and leaving work for a while so money will be an issue for a while.

Enough unique exclusives that are outside the shooter realm.

The reason why I bought a PS4 (And subsequently why I have zero to play on it atm) is because I know Sony will at least have some exclusives that range in genre. I can't say the same for Microsoft. The later half of the 360's lifespan showed me that Microsoft wasn't willing to no longer gamble on non-popular genres.

That only makes sense if the amount they are being funded is in excess of the amount they would expect to make from a theoretical PS4 version of whatever game it is. That seems unlikely to me. It also seems unlikely that Capcom were just not gonna make DR3 until MS stepped in.

No, there's a difference between funding (DR3, SO, Ryse) and "money hatting" (TF, PVZ). One is good, one is bad

It was more the replacing the broken ones with other refurbs that had the same design flaw that did it for me. If your product breaks and I have to send it in, I understand. I am not happy about it, but I can live with it. When you send me a replacement that has the exact same issue that does not last 2 months, then my understanding goes out the window.

Nothing. PS4 has Sony exclusives and more power so multiplats run better. If it was free would not waste my home electricity on it. Actually the Ps4 being recalled and Sony going under would do it.

Nothing. Swore off Microsoft hardware after the 360 RRoD stuff when my third console died within a year...

Same here.

But hey, let's play along.. What would it take for me? If it was 75-100$ less than a PS4, offered a free 10 years warranty and if there was a new Rallysport Challenge game that would be as good as RSC2 was for its time.
Then I would bite, for sure ;)

Also if there was a KI remastered collection.

Kind of like having to get a Wii U for Bayonetta 2, MS would have to get exclusivity with something like Bayonetta 3 for me to buy one.

Other wise I have no reason to, especially if the big name titles seem to be coming to PC without any reservation. They don't have first party franchises that I desire spending $400 to play and experience.

$299 with Kinect would probably do it. There's some great looking exclusives coming out, and as time goes on that number's only going to increase, so it's not the games holding me back. Just the price. I personally don't think it's worth over $300 when I'll be buying most of my games for the PS4 and I'll still have to pay for XBL, but that price or lower is perfect for it.

The Master Chief Collection definitely helps, though!

I have so many games to play through. Rather than spend money on a new console, I upgraded my PC. I doubt I'll even make a dent in my pc game backlog to even have to worry about getting a ps4/xbox1.

There really isn't anything on those consoles that make me want to shell out 400 bucks.

The assurance that everyone responsible for the original vision of the Xbox One (DRM, forced Kinect, TV TV TV, forced online, etc) has been fired and a letter written in blood by the management promising to never attempt anything this stupid and evil ever again.

Perhaps MCC forever being an exclusive. Still, for most other games that are going to be multi-plats, I'd probably rather "turn a crappy home PC into a gaming PC for $150" than have an Xbox One.

A good Gears of War and I know about 10 of my regular Gears friends that would buy it. Obviously very specific to us.

Unmissable exclusives like Lost Odyssey, Bioshock and Ace Combat 6 are the reason I got a 360. That's all it takes to get me to buy an Xbone really.

I think I'm getting a Wii U not just for nintendo stuff, but for Xenoblade X and Fatal Frame.

As of right now, nothing. All money reserved for gaming will be tied up in future investments (building a new gaming PC, buying a Wii U, and of course the games coming this Fall and early 2015).

But maybe a few years from now I might consider one for like $199-250 with a (desirable) game bundled and maybe a year free of XBL, assuming it has enough exclusives I care to play. Sunset Overdrive and Forza Horizon 2 are a good start, but I need more than that.

Off topic a bit - As an owner of an X1, PS4, Wii U and a gaming PC, I would do what you are currently doing in building a new gaming PC.

IMO, X1 has some great games now and some coming in the future like the ones you named. But I have a feeling that a lot of them are going to come to PC. I would wait until the install base gets a bit higher to solidify the term 'exclusive' meaning only X1 and not PC.
