Until you get it, sure, why not.
iek had an interesting perspective on why people loot and riot. It somewhat helps you understand and analyze that this expression of taking things is a function of people's only way of expression is pure materialism.
So a cop shouted "Bring it on, you fucking animals" during the peaceful protest.

Tut-tut. Look at these foolish black people rioting. They take a flimsy excuse like spending their entire lives being treated as second class citizens, being persecuted on a daily basis by security and police, being redlined out of prospering neighborhoods, being cheated out of a decent education, being unable to get decent jobs because of racism, being incarcerated an order of magnitude more often than other groups, and being continually portrayed as ugly and threatening in every corner of mass media, and just because of that decide to lose their shit. Just because blacks have learned over a lifetime that the rules the rest of society benefit from don't apply to them, and that regardless of whether they attempt to follow those rules or not they'll still be treated unfairly and will never be given an honest chance, they can't just explode in rage and break them! They have to respect the system that has been overwhelmingly rigged against them for over 200 years. They have to keep eating the shit plate they've been served and express any dissatisfaction with it in a nice non-threatening calm way that's acceptable to the upstanding white society whose acceptance they have yet to earn. If they let a never ending lifetime of enduring insult after insult and injury after injury provoke them into sudden outbursts of anger, they'll never convince the rest of us that they deserve to stop being insulted and injured. Riot and ruin those already ruined and economically suppressed places they can't afford transportation out of? They're clearly just doing it to themselves.
When are black people finally going to take responsibility for being persecuted and properly react to that persecution in an approved fashion? America's been benevolently waiting so long for them to get their necks out from under our boots, but without jostling us in the process, of course. I guess they'll just stay where we forced them to be until they wise up. The ball is in their court.
Now let's spend more pages focusing on pictures of individual rioters with sagging pants, since that's a far more serious issue than the sanctioned systemic murder and incarceration of young black men. Tut-tut.
K well if we're just shitposting at this point I'll just quote myself in regards to manky's last post which still goes unanswered
>Your sarcasm is just too much for my feeble, racist brain to comprehend so I'll just ask you a simple yes or no question. Do you think these people were justified in looting and vandalizing?
Because you're trying to apply logic to a situation where people are so psychologically claustrophobic that they're reacting with what amounts to insanity. Their reaction is irrational, but completely understandable, considering their life experiences and those in their peer group.get over myself? why? people are looting and vandalizing and I need to get over myself? I ask you why
There has to be more to the story. It couldn't just be "unarmed young black male leaving convenience store" and the officer's first reaction was to pull over and put 10 rounds into him

KSDK reporting Ferguson police, and city leaders are receiving death threats.
This is just getting out of hand.

My main issue is that I often find focusing on reactions like looting and/or rioting to be distractions more than anything else. Obviously, it's unfortunate when such instances occur. But whether we empathize with people doing such acts and assume that there might be some deep-seeded issues that account for why this is occurring or we chalk it up as the acts of opportunistic miscreants, I dislike that becoming the focus of the discussion. Obviously, riots occurring become part of the story. It's impossible to ignore that there are racial tensions in the area right now. But at the same time, I don't like it when it's regarded as some sort of official statement sanctioned by all black people in response to the police shooting.
what is tut-tut

He's never gonna get it though. He's not going to even try to get it. He's going to keep bringing up the rioting in order to continue underming the 400+ years long war on minorities. You know this. I know this. Everyone reading this thread knows this. And we all know why as well.
But to some people that's considered an insult or a personal attack. So I'll just leave it at that.![]()
Edit: Case in point, Steve Youngblood hit the nail on the head.

I've taken a fuckin sociology class, I understand systematic oppression and it is truly tragic. Where my opinion differs from yours though, is that I don't think looting is justified. Their reactions are irrational, but Battersea Power Station makes a legitimate point. Isn't it nice when people use logic instead of biting sarcasm to get a point across?

The fact that you're reading all of what everyone is posting as "Justifying looting" is telling. This isn't true, at all.

This is how we started the morning..please understand.the white guilt is palpable in this thread.
Get over yourselves.
Also, the fact that he insists on trying to laser focus this thread on the riots says it all.
Exactly. It's hard for me to judge people "acting out" by looting when the level of frustration that they're dealing with boils over. They don't know what else to do.
the white guilt is palpable in this thread.

I think the problem is folks don't want to hear that..Yeah, I don't condone it but I understand.
Yeah, I don't condone it but I understand.
God damn it, the comments on my local news pages are making me physically ill. Some calling for segregation. What the fuck is wrong with people?
Not enough, it seems..2014, folks. That area of Ferguson is already segregated for the most part. Shouldn't they be happy?
I think the problem is folks don't want to hear that..
along with pretty much the rest of the country. not saying it's right, just sayingThat area of Ferguson is already segregated for the most part. Shouldn't they be happy?

I see the merits of Battersea's points, he put it quite well. But at the same time, people should not be outraged when law enforcement take action against said rioting. People start stealing and burning shit, yea shit's gonna go down
in other words, there is STILL a lot of misplaced white quilt in this thread
.It's possible to be white, understand that rioting/looting is wrong, understand there are consequences for rioting/looting, but to understand why those doing so are doing it and empathize with them. That's not white guilt.
I think the problem is folks don't want to hear that..
Who is outraged at the police dealing with the rioters? You mind quoting some of those post? I missed them.
