How reliable is Fudzilla? It and a few other sites think GM200 will be out this year but considering how slack TSMC has been I don't see it happening.

Guys I'm hearing static noise while playing music. I tried plugging ear phones directly in the PC and same thing. No idea why this started happening suddenly. Any idea what I could do?

Hello NeoGaf,

I have read the topic thoroughly and done some research, but I'm still very unsure of what to buy exactly. Here is my situation.

I'm trying to get into speed running and streaming, and want to invest a lot in it. However, my budget is VERY limited and I cannot afford anything pricy at the moment (this means anything around $600 is a no-go for me).

I'm currently trying to run games on the SNES and the Playstation One, and my current laptop struggles to properly stream and emulate these (it's not powerful at all).

Thus, these are my main questions. If I were to build a pc with a decent processor, but kind of "meh but okay" graphics card, would I be able to do it for less than $600? Also, would I be able to upgrade the PC with a better card in the future?

Apologies for my ignorance. Thanks for reading and for any help or advice you guys have to offer.

I had a power outage that fried my HDD and just ordered a 512GB MX100 along with a 1TB WD driveI'm pretty pissed about losing all my stuff on my old HDD, but I'm excited to finally have an SSD

Dang. Oh well :P

And yeah, a sound card would be a huge factor.

I don't think virtual surround is overrated, especially if used with a quality pair of open ear headphones that have big sound stage. I had Haz try out my AKG Q701s w/ SoundBlaster ZxR, and he was pretty blown away by the quality. It's really dependent upon the tech and the headphones currently being used to get the most out of it.

But yeah, DACs are awesome too. Schiit Magni/Modi stack is absolutely killer.

I just feel like compared to a game that does sound well on its own, there's not as much to be gained. I've tried Battlefield with both regular stereo and virtual surround and I didn't notice as much of a difference as I expected. I'm not saying they're not useful, just that I think the money is better used going towards a DAC. TrueAudio looks pretty sweet, though. I wish it'd get more support.

I just picked up this bad boy.

Usually not very. GM200/210 would be way too big on 28nm and any process smaller than that, like 20nm, just isn't happening this year for big, high performance chips. TSMC only has an SoC variant of 20nm ready, so that process is designed for low power. At least, that's what I remember from reading around.

Quick update, I reseated my graphics card and haven't had any black screens again...yet. *knocks on wood*. It may have gotten jostled during transit, or not been put in right in the first place. Thanks all for your help!

Techreport has the story too.

GK210 this summer apparently, but that may only be workstation cards.

Honestly didn't think we'd see more of Kepler.

That's what I've been reading too, this new info is probably just clickbait before NVIDIA's Gamescom event.

When not streaming does your laptop manage fine with games? You could build a small PC with a capture card just to do the streaming, and use the laptop purely for emulation with the HDMI out going in to the PCs capture card.

Question: Do SSD and HDDs come with a Sata cable, or do I need to buy one?

Occasionally, but usually not. They're usually packaged with a motherboard. If the HDD/SSD you're getting doesn't explicitly say it comes with one included then you will need to buy one separately.

Hey guys

I'm about to order my first desktop in 10 years. Could someone have a quick look over the parts and make recommendations where needed.
I'm looking at upgrading the gpu in a year orso, to somewhat "futureproof" the system I picked a slightly higher PSU. Ideally I'll be looking at getting a 870 or 970, I know all we can go by is speculation at this time, but would the PSU be strong enough for a card like that?

There's also no way for me to have the computer wired to unfortunately, so I had a look at the network adapters, but am at a loss, there's so many ranging from 30-120$ and I'm not too sure which ones are good.

Parts breakdown:
Case: Corsair Carbide 300R
PSU: Corsair RM-650 80 Plus Gold (If I can replace this with a cheaper PSU feel free to say so, my only request would be for it to be modular)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H Motherboard (feel free to make suggestions here, as I don't know if I'll be using this mobo to it's full potential)
CPU: I5 4690K
GPU: Gainward GTX760
Memory: Corsair Vengeance CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
SSD: Crucial MX100 128GB SSD
HDD: Western Digital WD Blue 1TB WD10EZEX
Heatsink: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler
Monitor:ASUS VE248H

Would you guys upgrade a GTS 250 with a GTX 750 Ti right now?

I'm planning on upgrade for Witcher 3 in a few months my old computer (Core 2 Duo 6600) but I would like to be able to play Witcher 2 and Bioshock Infinite among other games the rest of the year...

Does anyone know when Nvidia is having a presentation at Gamescom?

I'm having trouble finding this information.
It's on their website; they'll be up from 13-17 August.
Click on the dropdown on the top or bottom of the article to scrub through the schedule.

Alternatively click here to go to the schedule for today.

I don't think they have one in the traditional sense. They have a stage on the floor in which they will present stuff throughout the week, but I think that is it.

The Core 2 Duo is pretty old now and not sure if it would be worth upgrading anything in that system. The 750Ti would be a massive upgrade over the 250, but Bioshock being an Unreal Engine 3 game can be CPU demanding. Pretty sure Witcher 2 like a fast CPU as well.

Your CPU will probably be a bottleneck. It's best in your case to start anew and built from scratch. You won't need an horribly expensive machine to play the next big games unless ultra settings is your only target.

I found that but I was under the impression they had some kind of actual presentation going on, like a stage show where they would show things off at a specific time on one day. But I guess not:

Yeah, CPU will still be a problem for the months to come until I get an i5, I hope we get some hardware requirements for The Witcher 3 soon. I just asked because I saw that the EVGA GTX 750 Ti Superclocked was about 130€ in Amazon and looked like a great deal, also, power consumption looks great too.

Edit: Works now. Weird

Old Post

So I replaced my 460 with my new 750Ti and killed my PC in the process?

It won't turn on, all the fans start spinning, but just for about 1-2 seconds before it shuts down. It will try to restart on its own, but never manages to get any further.

CPU: 2500k with a Hyper 212 cooler
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-PH67-UD3 S1155 ATX
Ram: Ripjaws 2*4 GB
PSU: Cougar SE 400

I put the new graphics card into a different PCI-E slot at first, but using the other one doesn't work either.
Just tried the old 460 and it works without a hitch.

I'm using one of the two PCI-E cables, that are on the same string, but that shouldn't be an issue?

Is the Samsung Evo 840 still a good buy? On sale for $270-$290 CDN for the 500GB model. I'd prefer to not have to micromanage a 120GB hard drive anymore.

Gotta stop expecting these event announcements. They typically don't do that and hold their own press conferences for releases. Or they just hard release with only a few days of a warning through leaks.
what is a good 24" all round display, possibly at 144hz? will dual monitors work fine with different refresh rates?
Price ~$300
Check out the OP. XL2411Z or VG248QE. Yes.

How do the speeds on that one stack up against usual recommendations?
That is the usually recommended SSD.

Speeds are all lightning fast, and you would not notice a difference in every day use between any of the modern SSDs, unless you have a very specific application for it.

I just built my new PC (4790k/Z97/16GB/GTX780) and I'm wondering if I did something wrong. Whenever I try to run a game 1920x1080 full screen, which worked fine on my old system, the game crashes. This has happened with Saints Row IV and Watch Dogs. It works fine if I go to borderless mode, but it won't ever work full screen. Did I set something up wrong or configure something wrong? Seems like it should be easy for this system to display that mode.

Also, I tried to run Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon at Ultra settings and the game lags like hell. Shouldn't I be able to run relatively new games at the highest settings, or is that asking too much?

Can someone advise on the best way to clean a GPU fan? My EVGA 680 fan is making a buzzing sound when it revs up a little. By putting my finger on the fan to stop it, the noise goes but after a few seconds of letting go, it returns again.

Is there any way to make text in Chrome look more like it does in Firefox? In Chrome it looks kinda washed out and is a little harder to read.

Some of my hardware recently took a crap in my PC and the only parts I plan to keep are my SSD's and GPU.

For this new build, I plan to pick up a new mobo, case(not really needed but wanna anyway),PSU, and CPU

For the case I plan to roll with the Corsair Obsidian 750D Black ATX Full Tower Computer Case

For the CPU I plan to go with the i7 4790K

For the PSU I was considering the EVGA SuperNOVA 850W. If anyone can think of something better in the same price range, by all means...

I haven't decided on a mobo just yet. I want something that doesn't really run more than $130-$140(or much less as long as the quality of parts aren't complete shit)

If anyone can find anything they would change about this build, let me know.

What's your GPU? I think you could cut back a little on the PSU and get a 700w unit if it's just a single GPU rig.
