Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Looking at (for now) all of the Smash Bros. characters ever on a single roster really shows what clones and odd character inclusions can do to a game.

Yo. That's cute

Hated the living shit out of high school.

College has been much kinder to me, though the unstable friendships and my Christian college's true colors regarding discrimination being recently revealed have been a gradual disappointment over the past couple years.

but I'll always have smashgaf <3

Lot of smash gaf in college like me, neat

The fanfic is slowly corrupting the essence of SmashGAF itself.

Things will never be the same.

Please ignore the fact that I did this before to a different community thread.

Well , ya'll have fun imma just observe.

Ghosts can't get shipped , so I am fine.

I enjoy each new Smash Bros. more than the previous one, so I'm not worried about this game.

Same here. I only worry about Smash Bros keeping the core gameplay and fun intact, which seems to be the case with Smash 4. Anything more (such as Melee's depth) is a welcome extra.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

ha

You laugh, but its true.

Anyone can get shipped. That's the horrible, beautiful power of fanfiction.

oh dear god i really just typed that sentence

Yes , yes you did. Feel terrible that you did. .

I'm the ghost in the animu who's purpose is to provide commentary and exposition,
But you were Sonic with sunglasses not too long ago... or did he die? D:

Shadow, and no vacation shadow has to go back to work.

So I am back to my old avatar.

I'm newly 23 and the thing I miss about high school is the usual thing: being around my friends all the time. The familiar faces and the assumed hang-outs and seeing each other basically every day.

I hate college. I hate college more than anything I have ever done in my life. The day I finish my degree will be like coming out of the desert for forty years. It has been NOTHING but suffering.

As for how this relates to games, I've never lived at school, so I haven't had any little local communities to play games with. There was a brief period in 2010 where the student lounge had Brawl tournaments and that was a lot of fun when it lasted. But what attracted me to SmashGAF is that I can constantly talk about Smash and keep up on the news just like I did with my friends in high school.

I need a job.

Same reasons as me for joining GAF. It's great to have a community to talk about Smash and I've even met a few people who live in my city!

I need a job.

God, I love working. I would work eight hours six days a week if I could. There is nothing more satisfying to me than a paycheck. That's part of what I hate about school. I have to find two part time jobs that are flexible enough to work with each other and also change every semester with my school schedule.

I live in Southern Maine, so I doubt I'll meet anybody who even lives in the state. I'm hoping the online for Smash 4 is strong enough that I can enjoy the multiplayer experience through the magic of the internet, because it's not 2007 anymore and I can't just go to a friend's house every day.

Am I the only one who enjoyed college more than high school? I love the liberty of making my own class schedule as well as skipping classes when I'm lazy (hey, I graduated fine, don't worry :p)

Well I enjoy my working life the most anyway. Can't beat the experience of earning your own bucks while doing your passion. It also helps that I can buy both Smash games with my hard-earned cash lol.

Everyone I've talked to would agree with you.

You are lucky, on my college you get a failing grade if you miss 2 classes.

No, you're not the only one. High School was great for the reasons he listed, but the College years were even better for the exact same reasons. You were around people your age constantly, always had something to do or somewhere to go, and could always find like-minded people to get to know and spend time with.

My work life was great as well until I left the job world and focused entirely on indie game development. Being small I only work with one other person so I really miss the social interactions I used to get from work and (years before) school.

Yeah, I miss being around the old group of friends all the time. Back then we would have ~weekly hangout sessions, sometimes with 9 or 10 people. I still see a few of them with some regularity, but mostly people are older and more split into different groups, or just fallen out of contact. I've never lived at school, but during college I did live with family about 30 minutes away from home. Since I was a broke college kid, driving back to my home town often was expensive, so I didn't get to see friends much at all. But at least through all that it felt like I head time. The grinds for projects and studying would get rough some times, but once each one was over, I always looked back at it with a sense of enjoyment.

Sorry, I ended up rambling. Anyway, with regards to your situation, have you considered looking for more Smash players around school? That was one of the cooler things for me about going to college, was that I already knew some Smashers that went to school there, and was able to get more regular practice sessions with different people. And most of the friends I've made since after high school have been from playing Smash Bros. Usually not close friends, but nonetheless.

Furthermore, from what I've seen it seems like Smash is very popular among colleges and the age group involved. Even if no one around there is actively playing, maybe you can spark some interest. Checkout Facebook groups or even Smashboards regional sections to see if there are any local groups already Smashing in the area. If not, trying to seek out anyone that might be interested and get something going. Smash is a great way to take your mind off of college stress and get a chance to socialize more.

There are more people who would agree with you than me, I'm sure. I hate it because I prioritize working, which classes cut in on and complicate. Not to mention the fact that the enormous expense consumes basically every penny I work so hard to make. I've been paying out of pocket as I've gone along and have no debt.

So it's soul-sucking.

I always felt the opposite. The money from working is kinda whatever; the extra time work takes is way more valuable. And work (for me) ended up being way less fulfilling than school was. School always felt like I was being pushed to systematically learn new things and expand my understanding, while work feels like it's just getting some humdrum stuff done, and if you have to learn some stuff in the process good. Before getting out of school I actually worried about ever finding anything I moderately enjoyed, but it turned out ok. I don't mind my job now.

If nothing else, I can browse SmashGaf at work. :P

Is anyone in this thread actually still in high school? The sign up age for GAF is 15, right?
Nope.

Don't worry, we'll get through university alive together!

I need a job.
I'm starting the search for one right now before I'm done
doubt I'll actually get one
:T

You lived the dream, man. I'm happy for you. I wish my own higher education experience was like yours. For me, going to college is like an institutionalized obligation that has created a standard for simply entering the work force. My degree has little value as a result and I'm not learning anything new as much as I am sharpening my strongest skills.

My personal experience feels like little more than a huge time and money sink. But college is an individual experience and I don't expect or hope that anybody else's experience is as bad as mine.

Sorry to hear that. :( How much longer you have left?

But yeah, everyone's experience will be totally different, no doubt.

How should we survive Weekend-GAF this time?

Ooh, from a scale of Zen Master to Apathetic Neutrality to Table Flipper Motherf#cker, how would you rate your madness for the following?

+ Late August Smash Direct announces Shulk, Choir Kids, Dixie Kong, Ridley as playable characters. Confirmed to have more secret newcomers/unannounced veterans they're not going to reveal before release. But...
- ... 3DS Smash will be delayed by an extra month for all regions (so October for Japan, November for the others). Wii U version is still slated for just before Christmas time.
