Here's the thing, though: This does apply to me, or at least one field does. It bothers me. And I'm not feeling guilty at all - just annoyed. Because stupidity annoys me, and it stifles progress. No, I don't believe in race, and this isn't a religion and beliefs have no place outside of churches.
I think it's important to view things in a wider context and ask uneasy questions. Why is the police in the US so god damn trigger happy in the first place? Why are most victims black? I mean, most members of the NRA are white, so if the cops are afraid, which actually would be a valid reason to shoot first and ask questions later, shouldn't they be more afraid of white people? That is assuming most victims are, in fact, black - I honestly don't know. Are there actual statistics that prove black people are more likely to shoot cops? Are there statistics that prove black people are more likely to be dangerous criminals? Looking at inmates in US prisons, one might think that's the case, but to me, it just seems like black people are more likely to get long prison sentences. Which, again, begs the question: Why? To me, this seems like a chicken-and-egg problem. Black people are more likely to be judged harshly because the statistics make black people seem more dangerous because they're usually judged harshly or something. It's fucking bullshit, but it's something that needs to be explored in a rational and objective fashion.
