Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Ha, I'm not sure who's supposed to be who in this GIF. I'm not trying to start shit, I swear!

I respect Meta Knight as a character cherished by many. But man, for me to feel like a swordsman, it helps to have actual arms swinging the sword, lol.

I think the following could rekindle hype:

- Exciting stages for Donkey Kong (WiiU or 3DS), Kirby (WiiU or 3DS), Metroid (3DS), etc

- A newcomer not on the Gematsu list (someone other than Shulk or Chorus Kids)

- A newcomer that is surprisingly clever (can include Shulk or Chorus Kids)

- A revamped Ganondorf, even if it's just a new move or two

- The return of Mewtwo

- An unexpected veteran (Squirtle, Ivysaur, Snake)

- A "high-risk" veteran (Wolf, Lucas, etc)

- Speaking of which: SNAKE

- Really, anything that disrupts the current narrative of who's expected and who's not

- A glimpse of an all-original trophy (so new model, not imported from existing game)

I don't get this :(

I feel like I've lost the hype for these games again. :- It's like the high from the Lucina/Robin reveal has finally fizzled out. Meta Knight is also the least exciting veteran to me (never liked his design, to be honest). I feel like we know everything at this point, or at least that it's futile to hope for something exciting, like Snake or a newcomer not on the Gematsu list. (Yes, I know Lucina/Robin should disprove that, but it's so close to launch now...)

This is probably exacerbated by Silent Hills and The Evil Within suddenly arresting my attention. Well, more so TEW -- Silent Hills had me spellbound with the playable teaser and the talent trio of Kojima/del Toro/Reedus, but now that we know it's 2016, I don't really feel like thinking about it, lol. TEW, though, is looking so good now that I've watched that hour-long demo that really established the game's rhythm, something akin to a hybrid of REmake and RE4, which is wonderful. Can't wait to play it.

Anyways, back to Smash. Not really sure what would get me pumped at this point. Nintendo is making surprisingly little noise in recent weeks given the proximity to launch.
I don't like this Neiteio, I prefer Bonkers Neiteio, what did you do to him?

I find that my hype has decreased because we've gotten closer to the release. At the time of E3, we knew a lot about what the game had to offer, but it was still a whole four months off - so close, yet so far. That made me antsy because I wanted it NOW but it was still a long ways off. Now that we're only about a month and a half away from the release, I'm no longer on the edge of my seat because it feels like I'll have the game in my hands in no time.

On another subject, I notice I haven't been in the fanfic since chapter two. This story is tanking fast

Nintendo should have kept the Banjo IP like they did the Donkey Kong and Star Fox IPs. The situations were different (Nintendo created DK and SF), but still, it was a massive potential IP Nintendo got rid of that fit in perfectly in their character line up.

I heard Nintendo owned Banjo at one point in time and traded the franchise back to Rare for the rights for Chunky, Lanky, and Tiny when the buyout happened.

Somehow, Rare owned those three characters if I'm remembering correctly.

Wow, that's a rip off.

Wow, that's a rip off.

That's why I have a hard time believing it.

Then again, it was probably smart of Nintendo to do that. If Rare went off to Microsoft with those kongs, what would have stopped Rare from taking the old DK64 formula and just making a game with those three on the Xbox?

Would have been a nightmare for Nintendo. Plus I doubt they would have known what to do with Banjo alone.

Speak of unlockable, I'm curious what you would think that are going to happens with unlockable for Smash 4?

I think Megaman, Pac Man, Mii, Palutena and Lucina will be unlockable, along with everyone but Marth who had previously been unlockable + Lucas (Marth and Lucas swap basically). I think he's revealing unlockables early this time to build hype and also because it's pointless to hide them since they'll be revealed unofficially a week before the game is even out. And he seems to realize this. I just don't see how Toon Link or Luigi would be starters, they don't fit with any of the starting rosters we've had in the past.

lmao
Chunky's most recent appearance since DK64 was a sticker in Brawl. What a stupid trade, they should have just let those three characters never be referenced again like they did to characters they own but don't use like Candy Kong.
Who thought it was a good idea to throw away an entire IP for 3 characters they haven't used in any major game since getting them. Barrel Blast and Diddy Racing DS were terrible.

The longer this thing goes without a release date, the more the chances increase of a 2015 delay.

I REALLY HOPE THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN!!!!

Particularly given how many delays we've had already.

We're forgetting the one of the biggest things about the idea of Rare and Nintendo still being together.

K. Rool probably would have been in by now

Nintendo can't afford a 2015 release unlike when the wii was on top of the world :P

Neiteio pls

To be brutally honest, I'm always more interested in the hype cycle than the game itself.

I played Melee and Brawl for about 4 months straight and that's it.

That isn't to say that I don't have a large investment in the outcome, but I always find the prerelease period infinitely more fascinating.

Diddy Racing DS was terrible.

I disagree vehemently.

I still prefer the original by a good margin. In part due to the hardware downgrade. The other main problem was not getting rid of the "round 2" for the worlds. The Touch challenges were even more egregious filler than the Silver Coin Challenges. I appreciated the additions a great deal though.

Given the choice of system-locking-bug/Major-glitch-found-last-minute and delaying the game, they'll choose delaying the game.

If it's content that can't be put in on time, they can now remedy that with DLC.

Okay, here's my prediction for the rest of the roster. This is not a leak or anything, this is just educated guesswork.

Unique Newcomers:
Shulk
Chorus Men
Ridley
Bowser Jr
Duck Hunt Dog

Clone newcomers:
Dark Pit
Impa

Melee veterans:
Doctor Mario (yes, as a clone and not an alt)
Mewtwo

Most of this stuff will be revealed after release.

The Lucina/Robin reveal was definitely the highest my hype has ever been. I think that's true for much of GAF, judging from how quickly we chewed through OT10. It was a combination of a change in the narrative (TWO Fire Emblem reps who AREN'T Chrom?!), the addition of Captain Falcon, the uniqueness of Robin's playstyle, two more "sisters" in Lucina and Fem Robin, the meme factor that was the trailer, and of course the weekend countdown to the grand reveal. It was all so perfect.

Never played Radiant Dawn (Awakening is actually my first FE!), but I take it you mean Mia was also absurdly popular in spite of fairly divided opinions. To be fair, I don't dislike Tharja--the whole "I'm gonna hex you *giggle*" schtick is kind of cute, and she's inherently infinitely better than trash characters like Sumia and Olivia.

Nah, I just mean Mia was extremely popular compared to the other minor characters from the game, nothing more than that. Pretty much just like Tharja stands out in terms of popularity compared to the other minor Awakening characters.

I remember Diddy Kong Racing being playable at a McD's near my school when I was a kid, along with other N64 games. Don't even get why they had that, and it was free too!

While on the subject of Diddy Kong Racing, I saw this screenshot of Diddy Kong Pilot (cancelled GBA game) for the first time and cracked up at it.

If this was to happen, expect me to have a new main right away.

He'll be a clone of Squirtle.

1. To get you to get your mom/dad to bring you to mcdonalds and buy food.
2. To advertise for nintendo.

Mia is actually liked without much backlash though, Tharja is hated almost as much as she's liked
Tharja sucks

Oh lol, thought you were talking about smash d:

My hype would be through the roof with the announcement of Ridley or Isaac as playable.
I'm not so narrow-minded/unimaginative that I'd rule out the possibility of newcomer Ridley, and this whole shadow deal being a troll, but... At this point, it does feel like Sakurai has come to see the "essence" of Ridley as being, well, too big to be a regular character. But yeah, if Ridley were playable as a normal character on the roster (rather than as part of a special boss mode), hype would skyrocket to unprecedented levels.
