The issue with curfew/no curfew is that you have a bunch of clowns from surrounding communities wanting to take advantage of the situation to wreck and steal shit. It's really lose-lose situation from a policing perspective. Either you restrict people's ability to protest, or you allow looting and destruction of property.

So I guess what I'm saying is that I'm not a big fan of the curfew, but I'm not sure what's the better option.

On Friday, Ferguson police had named Brown as the prime suspect in the robbery of a convenience store that occurred just before the shooting, and they released a video of the robbery. The footage showed someone they identified as Brown towering over the store clerk and menacing the person, images that were circulated nationwide and drew a sharp rebuke from Brown’s family.

The video’s release was criticized by the highway patrol and came over the objections of federal authorities, a law enforcement official told CNN on Saturday. The Justice Department had said that distributing the images would heighten tensions in the community, but Ferguson police released it anyway, the official said.

As others have said, this really is a case of the local PD not ready for the national stage. I used to think it was malice on the part of the Ferguson Police Chief, I'm coming around that he's just incompetent at his job.
 
I'm really hoping Tim Pool's stream for Vice News goes up again tonight. My guess is that he's waiting until closer to midnight to preserve phone battery. Their documentation of last night's events was second to none.

Releasing that video was not incompetence, it was malice. They knew exactly the kind of response it would get and it acts to taint the jury pool with knowledge that very likely would have not been allowed to be brought up at trial.

But what if the looters are thirsty and need a convenient way to carry all their loot around? That's like an open invitation in that case.

That, coupled with (allegedly) firing off countermeasures the other night when there was no looting/rioting, as if to bait people into retaliating, makes me think it was all purposeful too.

I doubt it because they did that as they retreated, as stated by multiple interviews VICE did live. The looting also didn't start until about an hour after that happened.

So something happened that scared off the cops and a cop threw some grenades as they left. Police claim bottles, but they were probably just outnumbered.
 
I definitely did not see that coming with Johnson pursuing that guy to talk to him. That takes mad props.

And of course props to Tim for doing this. Guy (and his coworkers) had balls of steel last night.

I don't know the names of everyone so I can't really explain it. This guy with a mask on was yelling how there would be no peace tonight with the curfew and the state patrol guy was there and he ended up talking him down one on one, calmly, and it was amazing.

I hope someone captured that and it will be posted soon.

It was one of the most powerful moments in all of this aftermath so far.

It was a nice sentiment on the part of the Captain, but otherwise meaningless, based upon the fact that he had no answers to give the protester. The protester left still shouting, or at least it seemed as if it was him that was shouting as he walked off.

Then the Captain pretty much just brushed off the amnesty international lady.
 
I felt so bad for that kid talking to the Captain. Clearly so much sadness and anger inside. You could tell that the way he spoke was fueled by it.

Yeah. I have a lot of respect for Johnson engaging with the young man, but the reality is that he and the rest of the community are being asked to respect and trust the processes of a system that has failed them time and time again.
 
Yeah. It sounds like the police were just put in groups and told "guard these places with your lives"


....and listen to your radios!!! :P
