Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

So they just picked enemies from Brawl trophies? Alright.

Not all of them, obviously. But there's a lot of asset reuse from Brawl and Melee in Smash Run, and a couple enemies look like they just took their trophy model and got to work. Kremlings look virtually identical to their Brawl trophy with added palettes.

Guys, guys, there is a new leak on the internet. This time its about trailers

I certainly believe the Sonic/Sega could get another rep and DK two more reps, but this leak is likely fake. I do love looking at leaks tho.

I believe the guy also said the part of the E3 2013 trailer with DK when they introduce the first eight characters was cut from the upcoming DK trailer but I lost that part or something.

Eggman could be awesome but I simply can't believe they would make a villains trailer and reveal K. Rool in a separate trailer. It makes no sense.

In any case, a villains trailer would be incredible. Ganondorf, Wario, Mewtwo, K. Rool, Ridley. It'd take the hype to ridiculous levels. And at the end of the trailer, Snake appears with his kept you waiting line. Internet explodes.
A shame it won't happen.

It wouldn't be too surprising, since they have a deadline coming up fast. At the same time, it also could just be due to them using the same artstyle.

No, but most of the Smash Run enemies (Kremlings included) use models taken directly from existing games. That makes the process of adding them a lot easier. I doubt a ton of thought was put into the Kremlings' inclusion -- they're common enemies from a popular series with a model available for use, so why not add them? Smash Run has close to 100 enemies, so Sakurai was bound to run into the Kremlings eventually.

Heh. I'd play Eggman. Would even make him a secondary if he ended up being good. Of course this will never happen, though.

The Kremlings are in Smash Run as an extension of DK & Diddy. It's not like King K. Rool is his own franchise.
But Retro doesn't care about them, which means Sakurai himself added them in on top of the Tikis. So um...yeah. K.Rool is atleast a boss and very likely to be playable imo.

Nah
DK = Zangief.

lol. Nah. DK is not a grappler. Im talking about a character whose B moves consists of grabs and such. Ganondorf is closer to what Im talking about.
Bowser became wrestler/grappler now tho. Drop kick, power bomb, etc
Maybe. Again. Think Zangief. Hakan. Hugo. Adon. Etc. Characters whose bread and butter are grapple moves.

I know that that's exactly what they're intended to be, but to me they're more of a "Hey look, it's your favourite character! Bet you'd like to play as them wouldn't you? Well you can't! Now watch as they appear and do their signature moves until you turn items off in a week"

I must be the only person who doesn't turn off items.

Geez. I go away for a couple of days, and I return to a SmashGAF in shambles! Do I have to do everything around here?!

- Neiteio is losing his hype for Smash. Neiteio, of all people!
- We're giving an obviously fake leak that claims Eggman is playable serious attention.
- There've been no new fanfic chapters.
- You guys STILL haven't figured out the final roster.

Hopefully the return of Weekday SmashGAF will help bring some balance back. :P On the plus side, I was skimming through the pages I missed and apparently a lot of us live in the Los Angeles area? Me too! That's awesome. If we had a big place to go, I'd say we should have an LA SmashGAF meetup once Smash comes out...

I must be the only person who doesn't turn off items.

You're not. I never turn them off! Smash is so much duller and less interesting without them.

Better than appearing as regular static trophies. You can at least see Dark Samus come out and kick some ass even if it isn't ideal.

anyone who thinks K. Rool is going to be a playable character is more than welcome to throw down for a 2-week avatar bet

I certainly wouldn't bet on it! I just feel a bit better about him being playable compared to some other names that have been thrown around.

This is such a dumb opinion, I turn off items because they get in the way but I can completely understand why people have them on, I don't understand how people who think of themselves as casuals can't see what the competitive aspects of the game has to offer.

But no, you're right, one of the deepest fighting games with the most free-flow combo system in the genre as well as multiple unique systems that can't be found at that level of polish anywhere else is dull and uninteresting when you turn off randomly spawning pokeballs and hammers.

Give me a break.

Jigglypuff time!

In which we discuss custom move possibilities and general changes you'd like to see for Queen Puff.

Neutral B: Rollout
Custom 1: Less damage and knockback but easy to cancel out and avoid failed Rolllout suicides. Like Sonic's Down-B.
Custom 2: Same default damage but more knockback than Custom 1. Will not be canceled out by opponent projectiles though.

Side-B: Pound (this move is pretty perfect as is)
Custom 1: Double Slap. Shorter hit box range and duration, but pulls target closer. Rising Pound range shorter but sets up easier for Down-B.
Custom 2: Wake-Up Slap. Much weaker and shorter hit box range and duration. Incredible power when opponent is sleeping though and better shield-breaker.

Down-B: Rest (Melee version)
Custom 1: same cooldown time. Does not do damage. Heals 25%.
Custom 2: Brawl version but hitbox is all around Jigglypuff and then some.

Up-B: Sing (modified so it sends out one guided non-damaging musical note like PK Freeze to put people to sleep)
Custom 1: Disarming Voice. The low-damaging note projectile travels like Din's Fire.
Custom 2: Dazzling Gleam. Trajectory is like PK Freeze. Sends out a flash of high-damaging light.

Final Smash: Misty Terrain
The whole arena ground is filled with pink mist for a good duration which slowly heals Jigglypuff. Opponents on the floor will be put to sleep. At this point, Jigglypuff's Rest will have zero cooldown.

Other Changes:
Charged Down Smash should include Sing effect found in prior games.
New voice actress. They've been using the same voice clips since SSB64. Plus, Purin's voice actress makes Jiggly even cuter.

Wow, what a unnecessarily aggressive and rude response to somebody saying "I like to have fun."

That's a long, roundabout way of saying "I don't agree with your opinion, and that makes it dumb! Now that I've said that, you'll see how much better my opinion obviously is and you'll HAVE to agree with me!"

Give me a break. This is not the first time you've tried to pull this with me. Your opinion is no more or less important than anyone else's... someday you'll figure that out.

Some people just revel in being angry or negative, I guess. Seriously, nothing about me expressing my opinion threatens your right to have yours. Now can you please keep the discussion flowing instead of finding reasons to attack my opinions? Thanks.

Right? Sadly it's not the first time I've seen that mentality among players with his particular gameplay preferences when it comes to Smash. Which is too bad, because not all pro (or whatever you want to call them) players are like that.

I'll never understand why some people can't just let others have fun playing Smash in the ways they prefer to play it. It seems like there are so many more important things to get angry about.

Define major. The two of those are the primary antagonists of their game and sub-series, respectively.
A major villain is one that is the primary antagonist across multiple canonical titles. Browser and Ganondorf have a huge number of games where they are the final boss in some fashion. Dark Samus is only a major villain in the Prime spinoff series, which IIRC is not canonical, and even then I am not sure she is a "villain". Skull Kid is in one game AFAIK. He is as major as Zant and Girahim.

You don't need to assume they're like you in asserting their opinions as objective fact. Also please don't assume anyone who likes items and/or random/chaotic elements is just blind to what competitive play is like (because they could never possibly prefer them if they actually knew the truth, right?).

I also play with items. I like the randomness that they give to the game and most of them are pretty fun to use.

If I had friends that owned a Wii U and were good at the game I'd probably find matches without items more interesting, but I probably would battle in both ways anyway.

Statements about continuity and Prime are all over the place (and I'd put my foot down on her counting regardless of canon if Bowser does, lest we start a discussion on Mario's deep lore), but I'd definitely argue that she is the main villain in those three games, since everything which happens is about her rise to power from her origins as the Metroid Prime to amassing an army as she attempts to bring the universe to its knees.

Canon just seems like a weird way to dismiss the characters when they're still being represented and in no way affects the relevancy of the games.

Well said. This is very problematic assumption a lot of competitive players make.

I did my time playing Melee with tournament rules. Hundreds upon hundreds of Fox-only-no-items-FD matches... until I realized Smash had stopped being fun for a long time to me.

Another incorrect assumption these people make is that there's only one way to play Smash competitively. I play Smash at a competitive level, but I play it competitively with a ruleset I (and people I surround myself with) find fun. I couldn't give less of a damn if that's not the "approved" way to play competitive Smash or whatever. Personally I find high-level play that includes catching, throwing, and avoiding items incredibly thrilling, and I can't get that with Smashboards' ruleset. It's just a different way of doing things... not better or worse, just different.

I have no problem with people who still find the Smashboards way of playing competitive Smash fun, but fuck if they don't try to force their way of doing things on the rest of us all the time. Joelnky here is a perfect example of that, unfortunately.

I am just thinking about a situation like Mario Kart. Imagine if Mario Kart had a recurring villain. Would you want to call it a major villain in Mario as a result? Or is Master Hand a major villain?

Its weird how I pretty much played melee with items on 85% of the time but with brawl I always turned that shit off.

Items were really op in brawl and did make it very unfun IMO

Uh.. it's an opinion.

Oh look a casual/competitive argument filled with stereotyping and assumptions.

I for one am shocked.

you guys clearly weren't watching the Pokemon championships earlier

II take it you weren't watching Pokemon World Championship?

I'm not invested in competitive pokemon outside of Ubers, so no.

Minun and Plusle may have been my last liked ones.

Those two are okay, they're just kind of there for me.

I'm not really seeing how that's an apt comparison at all. If Mario Kart had some kind of story mode and introduced a recurring antagonist throughout the whole series? Sure, he's now a major Mario villain, just like Fawful or Captain Syrup.

Master Hand's not a villain since his appearances in Smash don't divulge any information about his "character." And the one time Smash has had a story he only played a bit part. He's an iconic recurring boss fight, taking a lot of inspiration from Nintendo's stable of "Hand and/or Face bosses" but nothing more than that.
