Ferguson: Police Kill 18yo Black Male; Fire Gas/Rubber Bullets Into Protesting Crowds

You want to stop the violence? Easy. Arrest the shooter like you would anyone else. Doesn't matter if he's released on bail or only in for a few days. That stops the violence. Stop being so damn stupid about this.
And violate his due process rights as described in his union contract?

I find it funny that there's been a number of guys coming up to Alice and Claire trying to hit on them only to run away when they tell the guys that they're live streaming. Lol.

I think most would or should argue that there should be video evidence of all police dealings with the public because if there isnt the police are extremely good at fucking over civilians and protecting their own. I think the bigger danger to democracy and society in this instance isnt privacy, but institutional power and its desire to protect itself and its members over such things as justice and rights.

And my point is the privacy question will and should be debated before any federal mandate would be in place for cameras that record everything. To be honest I'm not even sure what current law has to say about even pictures being taken inside a residence by police responding to a situation or having been invited in.

Not insurmountable by any means but still things that will need to be addressed.

I've been watching multiple streams all night, and didn't see one molotov. I also heard a ton of press people talking to each other, all of them, including ones on the front line, saying this wasn't true.

I have a lot of respect for the police, but this is bullshit.

And when America wakes up tomorrow they'll turn on CNN and MSNBC and Fox News and their local news and see headlines parroting the police line. Shameful.

Cops really ought to be in favor of mandatory recording devices. From what I've been reading, rollouts in smaller cities have been effective in reducing false complaints against police as well as in reducing police misbehavior.

Yes, Camaras would go along why is defending police officers from false charges of abuse.

Chris Hayes is on msnbc right now reiterating that he and people he spoke to did not seen the referred molotovs thrown, and that it will probably be the flashpoint of debate tomorrow (other than the autopsy results).

Now the next guy on is saying that he was there when they were thrown though, so who knows.

Wouldn't there be a number of fires as well if they were thrown? Didn't see anything like that in any of the streams or footage shown in them.
Such bullshit. They need to show us one single piece of evidence to back up this unsubstantiated claim.

To be honest though, the molotovs we saw the other night weren't very good ones. To the point that it looked like just a bottle being thrown. Could have easily happened again tonight.

Shot him 6 times? The fuck? Lock this guy up for life, straight up murdered an unarmed kid.

The problem is this actually contradicts the witnesses claims that he was shot in the back, as the pathologist states with certainty that this is false. This also shows he was leaning forward when shot, again this contradicts the witness claims. This is consistent with another eye witness who says brown was charging the police officer when shot.

What difference does it make if Molotov cocktails weren't thrown, but it was fireworks instead? That sounds just as dangerous, no?

Molotov Cocktails are being blamed for why the police 3 hours early rushed the crowds. Never mind the fact the truth is that the autopsy report came out just before they rushed the crowd.

Its bullshit that will be reported again that the crowd was violent when they weren't. The cops knew the autopsy report would not be well received.

I'm so happy that minossec / Greg Thomas is heading back to Ferguson with a livestream. It'll be interesting to see things from his point of view.

The problem is this actually contradicts the witnesses claims that he was shot in the back, as the pathologist states with certainty that this is false.

No it really doesn't. It corrects a small point of contention and nothing else. Some witnesses say he was shot from behind while running away, others say he was hit from behind. The autopsy only proves that he wasn't actually hit. This doesn't change anything about their story, it is still 100% possible that he was shot at while running away then turned around and surrendered only to be shot multiple times from the front.

They said he was shot at while running away. Doesn't contradict that the witnesses said he was shot turned toward the officer with his hands up.

When this is all over, I really am curious as to what will happen to this county police force.

Not just that, but also on a town/city altogether.

I"m even more interested in the talk of both race relations and militarized police country wide. Now most the first part will be swept under the rug most likely, like always, but the latter might open up the talk of the future of the police state

A big can of nothing is going to happen. General apathy will stymie any progress to demilitarize the police-there's people right now who actually agree with whats going on at this very moment. I doubt many politicians will give a fuck cause its an election year.

TBH, dunno how anyone can "want" to be a cop right now in that area.

Why be curious about the obvious? Nothing. Nothing will happen to the police force

Absolutely nothing.

Not just that, but also on a town/city altogether.

I'd like to think that this has caused so much commotion and it was such a show of incompetency that Police Chief Jackson and Officer Wilson will see some punishment to their offense.

As has been stated several times earlier, it only proves he wasn't hit. Does not prove he wasn't shot at from behind.

Lol what did the guys say?

Walked up to them saying "How are you ladies doing?" Alice says they're live streaming. He immediately walks off without saying another word. At least Claire didn't shame him by pointing the camera at him. She should have, would have been funny but then lonely guys everywhere would rage.

What's the reasoning for that?

http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2014/08/18/ferguson-florissant-school-district-cancels-monday-classes/

FERGUSON, Mo. (KMOX) - Ferguson-Florissant School District has announced that all schools in the district will be closed on Monday, August 18 “due to continuing unrest in some areas of Ferguson, and in the interest of the safety of students and families.

In a release, the district cites concerns about children walking to school or waiting for buses on streets impacted by activity from Sunday night’s protests, debris on the roads that could impact transportation, and continued disruption affecting students and families in the area.

The district states that while teachers, principals and the administration were ready to welcome students back, the safety of students is their primary concern.

Jesus, this CNN guy. The station asks if he's seen any molotov cocktails, and he admits he hasn't. Then he goes into an editorial rant and says about a minute into it 'So if you throw molotov cocktails, the police are forced to respond.'

Just crappy reporting.

I guess its pretty sad that the FPD (or whomever) is doubling down on spreading distrust. They should always be ready to defend obviously, but they don't give up anything. They lie and manipulate just as they aid and advise---all natural, but they've done nothing to make things better. That gotta be a little concerning.

So it's kinda obvious they see the media as the enemy too. How stupid are they? The arrest of the WaPo reporters is what blew this whole thing to national levels, because reporters go ballistic over that shit. They are complaining that the media is painting them in a bad light yet they continue to badger and harass media (and more reports of media being arrested tonight), infringing on rights, etc. the situation is so bad the press are wearing flack jackets because they keep being targeted. By cops. It's insane.

I mean, if I were a racist police force I'd be being nice as hell to the media, because then they'd cover you in a more favorable light. They are dumb as hell.

Your optimism is admirable. Having been privy to this shit all year I've become jaded unfortunately. Police take care of their own.

I'm actually beginning to think 2pac might've been on to something :/

It's because their instincts and practice are to keep everything internal to control information. Their relationship with the media is usually giving them police reports and their side of the story and the media just reporting that and maybe a defense lawyer comment.

The media doing actual reporting and investigating has broken this pact and placed them on the side of the endless forces laying siege to peace warriors who just want to go home at night.
