Love this picture.

Required reading. Great stuff.

Damn, really goes to show that this issue goes farther than just race.

Make no mistake race is a crucial component, but here you have a case where a blonde haired blue eyed son of a decorated military airman is shot execution-style with the gun at his temple, where the first attempt misfired and the officer pulled the trigger a second time, and the man was in handcuffs, and then within 48 hours the police excuse themselves of wrongdoing with the help of a DA they put in office, well, like the man said, "“If they can shoot a white boy like a dog, imagine what we’ve been going through."

Don't be so hasty. Who doesn't dream of taking up defensive positions in American towns and defending militarized police by threatening unarmed civilians?

Local police. Who wants to play "spot what's missing"?

Donuts? A Dunkin' donuts store in the background? Some kind of sugared pastry?

the KKK in the modern era is literally a bunch of fuckboys who aren't about shit. given the tension of some protestors, i would bet a KKK member showing uo to a Ferguson protest would get mobbed. these people are just trying to get some time in the spotlight for their lame ass group. if the KKK was really about that life they'd show up witout hoods and challenge the protestors at the protests, but they wont.

Yo she's pretty hot.

The chick with the nose ring, obviously.

Damn, really goes to show that this issue goes farther than just race.
It always has, but systematically when it has been involved, it's always been against/not in the favor of minorities, other than very special circumstances.

In the end tho, if the militarization of police continues, we're all phucked.

I have to take a moment and comment on Obama's speech today: it was...actually pretty good. He still could've done better to criticize the Ferguson police department in their role in this chaos, but it's to my attention now that w/ the DOJ investigating this, and the fact the case has yet to go into a court room, he legally can't appear as though he's leaning one way or another. There's no telling if future jurors and the defense will look at that and use it against the prosecution in the trail.

Of course, I sure as hell don't trust Ferguson to appoint a decent prosecutor to the case whatsoever, I'd much prefer the parents be able to afford a damn good one themselves and shame the defense. Obama can wax lyrically more in-depth as the trail is coming to a close.

The problem with Sharpton is that his mere presence often discredits causes in the minds of some people. He's an opportunist/ambulance chaser who is now an embarrassing Obama slappy. I can't stand him.

Jesus Christ
Because if a blond-haired, blue-eyed boy — that was my son, Michael — can be shot in the head under a street light with his hands cuffed behind his back, in front of five eyewitnesses (including his mother and sister), and his father was a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel who flew in three wars for his country — that’s me — and I still couldn’t get anything done about it, then Joe the plumber and Javier the roofer aren’t going to be able to do anything about it either.

But this is pretty cool
But Frank Serpico, the famous retired New York City police detective, helped. He had his own experience taking on police corruption. I set up billboards and a website and took out newspaper ads, including national ads in the New York Times and USA Today, and Serpico allowed me to use his endorsement. “When police take a life, should they investigate themselves?” the ad read.

Definitely. This part seems the most incredible to me.

We did our research: In 129 years since police and fire commissions were created in the state of Wisconsin, we could not find a single ruling by a police department, an inquest or a police commission that a shooting was unjustified. There was one shooting we found, in 2005, that was ruled justified by the department and an inquest, but additional evidence provided by citizens caused the DA to charge the officer. The city of Milwaukee settled with a confidentiality agreement and the facts of that sealed.

As with this story about the Ferguson police charging someone for destruction of property for bleeding on them while they were beating him from much earlier in the thread, the lack of accountability is even more frustrating than the act itself. The public's faith in the justice system requires it to operate fairly for everyone, and cases like these expose that belief as nothing but myth.

Still not very familiar with the Saint Louis area, and last night Google said the store that had what I needed was in Jennings. Never heard of Jennings, so I just followed my nav like an idiot. What's this? Police have blocked off entry to the strip mall I wanted to go to. That's odd. Now I'm stuck going into this neighborhood. What's this pile of candles and flowers bigger than my car? Mike? Only way out of this neighborhood is onto this Florissant street and it's gridlock. Does that building say Ferguson? Oh my goodness, thousands of protesters. Hey look, cameramen wearing body armor and gas masks. Oh dear, heavily armed police officers. Uh-oh, a wall of what I hope is just smoke is heading down the street at my car, I will make a hasty U-turn.

I am dumb.

Dashcams really ought to be mandatory. They're a check on accountability. Tape doesn't lie, it's conclusive (one way or the other); instead you get spectacle, riots, and a media orgy that'll continue until a trial concludes many years from now.

Does anyone know what happened with the asshole cop that was yelling at reporters "get the fuck out of here or I'll shoot you with this"? Last I know is they got his information and they were going to get in touch with someone today but I haven't heard anything since last night.

Did you move to STL or are you just taking a trip there?

Wow, CNN is covering the Henry Davis story.

CNN had hist attorny on back around 6pm earlier today. although im pretty sure at this point main stream media will latch onto whatever real news outlets have in relation to the Mike Broen situation to stay as relevant as possible. so good on them even if their coverage is simply opportunistic.

The complete and utter lack of gun safety being followed here is astounding.

Under no circumstances should anybody, police/National Guard/etc, be drawing their gun on protesters unless the situation has escalated to a life threatening one. What on earth.
