No, actually its not.

Im not siding with any given side hear, looks like a horrible situation thats being escalated by all three sides. Im commenting on this specific incident in which a badge that says PRESS was removed then handed back to someone because they couldnt provide press credentials.

Police were forcing the press back to their vehicles in an attempt to get them to leave the area. Worst case scenario is someone not associated with the press actually did manage to get a similar press badge and is allowed to leave the area.

???

Usually journos will have to show up and register at some place (like a tent or etc) and then they will get an official approved card or pass which will allow them to move around.

.. I have no idea how it works in a riot situation, but I assume it's something similar-ish. The Police on the field know what the official pass looks like, and this is what the cop was looking for.

Yesterday they just showed a business card that said "VICE" on it, so I don't know if they issued any cards.

holy shit

So is what the cops doing now even remotely legal? I don't know how these arrests are remotely legal.

Soldiers don't even push back war correspondents during combat.

The media has every right to be there, it's their freedom to report everything that is happening that is in the public eye including police. Some reporters have been complaining that this isn't where they should be, they don't want to be in this tiny area away from the real news.

Nope. If you were watching the stream you would have seen that the cops were being shot at. Some cops than ran over to tim and the other media that were on the ground ducking. The cops checked if tim and the others were all right and than told them they needed to leave now.
Exactly. They told them to stay down and then the tear gaz happened and the vice guys were hit by the fumes

He ripped the badge and threw it on the ground saying "this doesn't mean shit". He didn't hand it back.

A patch that says PRESS is not press credentials. Even if he lost his original credentials an officer looking to only let press through does not know that, nor would they know its the truth.

He was with two credentialed journalists who vouched for him. He dropped his when the livefire hit, and he was hit by a ricocheted rubber bullet and tear gas. Rather than simply asking for the credentials of the journalists who still had them, and understanding that they just escaped a chaotic situation and take their word for it that Tim was with them, he decided to unnecessarily puff his chest out and be a jackass in front of 30,000 people before they eventually let VICE through, rendering that particular display of jackassery utterly pointless.

I guess you missed Tim getting shot by a rubber bullet and getting hit by tear gas.

Someone really needs to teach these police you're not supposed to point guns at people unless you intend to shoot them. This is the sort of intimidation employed by fascists.

That's not really relevant to what he was talking about. He was responding to the suggestion that Tim was getting shot at by the police with live rounds which, as far as we can tell, is did not happen.

CNN and Msnbc seem to be covering the same group being arrested but I'm focusing on the audio from the streams atm. Any else watching that can describe what's happening?
