Ferguson: Police Kill 18yo Black Male; Fire Gas/Rubber Bullets Into Protesting Crowds

To be fair, I suffered a Jones Fracture when I was 13 in martial arts class. I didn't know I fractured, just thought I landed awkward and slightly sprained it. Wrapped it and finished the class, went home, no issues. The next morning went to get out of bed, NOPE. Immediately fell to the ground in pain stepping on my foot. Your body can produce endorphins to stop/ignore pain as it feels necessary. Not magic powers. Not saying his fracture is legit, just using an example from my own personal experience.

I suppose you're right. I'm not a medical expert so I can't say for sure.

I was actually just coming to ask what's going on with CNN. They've had that same headline up since yesterday, which is super strange for any headline.

I read the story on there about the other guy who got shot today. He was begging to get shot apparently and the good cops were all but too happy to oblige.

Surely there are other ways to disarm a crazy man with a knife right?

CNN has ignored Jon Stewart and gone forward with their ''Crossfire'' ''2 sides to a story'' type of reporting.. and bullshit like that

Real talk from Jesse Williams! I only knew him as a random actor from Cabin in the Woods! Who knew

That's some truth. Too many people wanna yammer on about petty theft of $5 grocery item, when like the guy said, a lot of people around Brown's age and from all ethnic backgrounds have stolen small items from grocery stores. A distraction from the much bigger problem of the murder and how blacks get treated every day in America.

1) words from locals: http://www.npr.org/blogs/codeswitch/2014/08/19/341608860/reality-meets-celebrity-in-ferguson-mo
2) sad picture from that story:

It wasn't until later that I noticed the cameraman was stepping on the memorial for Michael Brown.

I once broke my orbital bone while loading a truck. Happened when I opened a trailer door, and the latch kicked forward and smacked me right in the eye socket. At first my eye stung a little, and I just assumed it was a small bruise. 30 seconds later I noticed my eye was swelling. 3 minutes later my eye was closed shut. It hurt, but I wasn't in massive pain. Just had a bit of a headache. Still finished my shift 4 hours later, and came back to work the following day.

DoJ ain't here to play.

Eric H. Holder Jr. said:
The full resources of the Department of Justice have been committed to the investigation into Michael Brown’s death. This inquiry will take time to complete, but we have already taken significant steps. Approximately 40 FBI agents and some of the Civil Rights Division’s most experienced prosecutors have been deployed to lead this process, with the assistance of the United States Attorney in St. Louis. Hundreds of people have already been interviewed in connection with this matter. On Monday, at my direction, a team of federal medical examiners conducted an independent autopsy.

Eric H. Holder Jr. said:
At the same time, good law enforcement requires forging bonds of trust between the police and the public. This trust is all-important, but it is also fragile. It requires that force be used in appropriate ways. Enforcement priorities and arrest patterns must not lead to disparate treatment under the law, even if such treatment is unintended. And police forces should reflect the diversity of the communities they serve.

Eric H. Holder Jr. said:
This is my pledge to the people of Ferguson: Our investigation into this matter will be full, it will be fair, and it will be independent. And beyond the investigation itself, we will work with the police, civil rights leaders, and members of the public to ensure that this tragedy can give rise to new understanding — and robust action — aimed at bridging persistent gaps between law enforcement officials and the communities we serve. Long after the events of Aug. 9 have receded from the headlines, the Justice Department will continue to stand with this community.

Not a one line of equivocation. Clean, decisive. Godspeed to the feds.

Are testimonies and accounts supposed to be private? You're not supposed to tell them to media outlets and such, as it may skew a case? Is this why Wilson doesn't have any public comment? The story told by a third party could be making things worse, since if the "more than a dozen" accounts that collaborated with Wilson's story were told after that was released, it could be dismissed as people just thinking they saw what they read?

As expected. This is what Holder does: what Obama can't say or do directly.

Comedy Central’s Key & Peele, a sketch comedy show from Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele, has a great recurring bit that debuted during the 2012 presidential election. In it, President Obama (played by Peele) responds to his more populist liberal critics with a new hire, Luther, his “anger translator” (played by Key).

When Obama says, “I know a lot of folks say I haven’t done a good job at communicating my accomplishments to the public,” Luther translates with “Because y’all don’t listen!” And when Obama says he wants Republicans to know his “intentions are coming from the right place,” Luther gives the real message, “They’re coming from Hawaii, which is where I’m from, which is in the United States of America, y’all. This is ridiculous. I have a birth certificate!”

The parallel isn’t great—there’s no visible anger, for one—but I can’t help but think of this skit when I see Barack Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder, and their rhetoric on race and racism.
Eric Holder Talks About Racism the Way Obama Wishes He Could

"Where Obama floats an idea, Holder issues an indictment."

Doing overtime for private companies like Barnes n Nobles gets you paid
This. There's a cop that does the same thing at the Publix near my apartment that told me and my wife the same thing. You can tell he's getting paid because he's almost like a meet and greeter there.

Yeah that's all a fair read, but it's echoes of that dumb Ezra Klein piece. "Why Obama won’t give the Ferguson speech his supporters want". Trying to explain away Obama's milquetoast public stance here as part of some strategy. If Obama really sincerely believes that making a "presidential speech on a politically charged topic is as likely to make things worse as to make things better", then his presidency is failed. Turn over the office to Biden.

Fox News is saying people ARE intending to go home at nightfall tonight. That might make things interesting if the trouble makers can't hide in the peaceful protest. But I bet they go into hiding without people to hide in.

Or Fox news is a bullshit organization that shouldn't be trusted to report about a middle school spelling bee much less social issues involving black people.

What the Obama presidency has taught this nation was that it was not ready for a black president, it's in the erza klein article that you linked. Obama going even further than what he said in his press conference would only stoke more racial division. It's unnecessary and Obama knows this. The only people who refuse to acknowledge this is people who are willfully ignoring reality.

Been posted yet? Rocks thrown at Chris Hayes for anyone who missed it live.

100k in NYC is like 40k anywhere else.

its msm, who cares. most of these news stations weren't first in Ferguson covering the stories, independent freelance and protesters were. msm isn't concerned about telling the truth or getting a real story, its all about the ratings the constant loop of recycled half truths. could care less if the got a few rocks tossed at them. they're just opportunist anyway. the livestreams have been 10x the news coverage that cable msm has been.

Actually it was on CNN. I put the wrong station down.

Is CNN that bad? I was in the states a last week and I really like CNN as a news organisation and what they covered from when I was watching them on TV at the hotel.

FOX I don't trust AT ALL. That is a complete BS news organization I don't know how they can keep on going with the most viewership as well, n.o less

iirc those rocks were from white anarchists and they got ousted by the crowd and handed over to the police.

My issue is they struggle to report both sides on stories that shouldn't.

I lost a ton of faith in CNN over the last few years.

Basing their news on Tweets was the start of it . . . then they brought back the boneheaded Crossfire . . .

CNN has gotten consistently worse over the last 6 years or so at accurately reporting the news.

Probably because they realized they had to do something to keep up with Fox News' viewership.

Are you sure you weren't saying the PD made a molotov and took a pic to support their treatment of protesters?

If the Twitter account is real, in my opinion, yes, I think it's a fake they made.

If the Twitter account is fake, then it's a terrible fake.

Either way, yes, I do believe the molotov is a fake, but I don't know if that's their Twitter or not.

So not to veer off topic, but what is the best channel to watch? MSN? Honestly, I tend to get a lot of my current event news from GAF.

I believe the media was there when it was found. Also early on it was said the Molotov cocktails being thrown were crude and most weren't working as intended.
