Ferguson: Police Kill 18yo Black Male; Fire Gas/Rubber Bullets Into Protesting Crowds

Maddow just said NYTimes reporting that the DOJ is strongly considering opening up a larger Civil rights case against the Fergueson PD and looking at their overall policing tactics.

so the prosecutor has full control over the evidence.

Full control. The defense can usually provide a packet with their perspective, but I've never seen one that is effective and the defense will have a vague idea of what the prosecutor is doing but not nearly enough information to be effective. What happens in the grand jury is almost always what the prosecutor wants to have happen.

The difference between the last few nights and tonight seems to be that the peacekeepers are out in force and the protests are much more organized. Glad that they've got some leadership right now.

surprised CNN showed that, heh

Definitely seeing a very organized protest. Earlier on when things got tense that religious lady calmed things down. It was impressive.

Plus to the police credit they're hanging around the businesses out of the way, a few in the street, no wall of guns standing in a line.

Things go a lot better when the police show some damn restraint and respect.

Just got a chance to watch John Oliver's last show. Wow. It was beautifully scathing. The entire piece of shit law enforcement structure in this god damn country needs an overhaul.

Holy crap! When you don't come like you're prepared for war and everyone's your enemy, the citizens are calm and peaceful? Even helpful in taking down agitators.

Just treat people like people. That's all we want from the justice system.

Agreed. With a case this public, it certainly seems distasteful, but I cynically think that the prosecutor wants to simultaneously tank while shirking responsibility. At least that's what I gather based on the tweets, which may or may not be accurate.

I should add that I am skeptical of the tweets. I mean, they are basically one step removed from the prosecutor stating, "I am going to present evidence that Brown posed an immediate danger to the officer and to others. What's that? No PC? My work here is done." You don't take the defense's best hypothetical set of facts and treat them as your own. It just sounds too far-fetched, but who fucking knows in this system anymore.

The tweets are pretty bizarre, but there have been more leaks than I would have expected here, that sounds like a very unprofessional office, I need to check If I know anyone there, I actually went to law school in that state a few years ago but left the state after graduation.

That's one thing I'm worried about Tim's stream. People are tuning in to see violence and gun shots as it happens, not the police response or the protester's message.

I agree to this. After seeing the peaceful protesters try and stop the stupid shits trying to start stuff I agree wholeheartedly. This isn't a protest mired in severe rioting or destruction. It's a protest about the police's action that lead to the death of that African-American Adult. As long as the peaceful guys can "police" the stupid people in their midst the cops shouldn't be aggressive.

About the Grand Jury: Who's being prosecuted? I'm sure that those tweets are a rumor (for my sanity's sake, I hope), but who's exactly being put on the stand here? Mike Brown or Wilson? From the sounds of it, they're going after Brown. I'm genuinely confused at the moment.

Well, Brown is dead, so I doubt it's him, even though the assassination of his character will probably feature strongly in both the grand jury proceedings and any trial.

Tim determined to get the police to answer his live ammunition question, not going to happen though.
I thought one did with an "oh, definitely" but he wouldn't identify which guns had live ammo and which did not. Or was the "oh, definitely" guy not police? I was only listening at that point.

One of the larger peaceful groups in the I am Mike Brown stream is disbanding, telling all its followers to be at the justice building tomorrow at 9am.

I saw it come from the cop. Could be wrong though.

However, it's only logical that some of those guns have live ammo if the less lethal cops get targeted by shots like previous nights. So from what I noticed on the stream, among every 5 or so less lethal shotguns there was an AR.
