Protest leaders and peacekeepers are the real heroes. They're the reason this isn't devolving into stupid shit like last night, doing everything they can to deter out-of-town troublemakers from doing their bullshit.

I hope they keep those protesters out. If they want to protest in their own area, they can do so, but it's best for everyone now if they minimize the amount of people who could cause problems.

Well said.

Whatever comes from this those peace keepers are absolutely amazing. Seeing them take control of their community, calming the agitated, running out trouble makers, physically pulling back people who are too angry before they make a bad decision, stopping looters, putting out fires. They are the ones who have kept this from become a full blown riot or massacre. I really hope they get the acknowledgment they deserve. These people are heroes.

Edit: What Olive said.

Please tell me it's just Anarchists and the KKK, because I can very easily see it being assholes that thought "hey, why not drive a long ways just to yell at police, right?".

I find the word very demeaning and of a racial nature. I wouldn't want to be called that. :(

I'm curious to hear about how this word effects you beyond "They said something mean to me". The word doesn't have a history of deep traumatizing oppression attached to it.

Being called that by an African-American Cop is demeaning. Being called that while being a severe minority in school (all grades) is demeaning. Told it's not "white" or "cracker" time to use the restroom is demeaning. When the word is used as insult against your race, that is wrong. It's not me just saying I don't like the word cracker. It's because it has been used against me in a negative racial way. So no I don't like the word "cracker" when if refers to white people, only to Saltines.

now imagine a word that dehumanizes instead of undermining status

Of course they would.
.

The "War on Drugs" was bad enough as a carte-blanche reason, the "War on Terror" made things even worse, since any podunk town could use the excuse "well, we could be a terror target!". I liked the one on John Oliver where a town in Maine said it needed a Bearcat vehicle because its Pumpkin Festival could be targeted.

No real person gets offended by cracker....it doesn't even mean anything.

The nword has deep historical meaning and context. Comparing the two is asinine

The problem with the ferguson protests, much likethe occupy wall street protests, is that there is no leader for the crowd to gravitate to and coordinate their energy. There is no one person for the press to write about. I fear that without a MLK Jr type person we aren't going to see results. We will have the media report from the cops narrative and over the course of weeks the energy will fade.

I hope someone appears soon, because we need change and not another occupy wall street failure.

I don't understand? Can you give me a word example?

The racial word used against me wasn't just undermining me it was dehumanizing me.

Funny that you can relegate when the word "cracker" was used against you to a few moments in time.

Now imagine a word dehumanizing you and being used against you for your entire life in the entirety of your country and not just your school/neighbourhood.

Did it hit a police officer?

Even if it did, it's a damn water bottle. The way police start firing indiscriminately after a water bottle is thrown at them is psycho. I mean, we all know they're just chomping at the bit to get an excuse to go to town, but still.

Save us, peace train
