Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 12: Gwah, hah. Welcome to the Bowser's game.

Xenoblade was a console game. Please look forward to stages in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Punch-Out and Earthbound's stages are from console games. They mainly draw inspiration from handheld or console games if they appear on both of them, but if they're mostly handheld only or console only, they'll still give them a stage (Pokemon has a stage from X and Y on the Wii U version, for example).

wait what

Look at the CPU that was selected. Look at the player selection. Notice how P1 is different too?

What?

I'm saying your video is a multiplayer matchup. The circumstances do not match the leaked photo.

We have a video where there is only 1 player and the other slot is CPU like the leak. That video shows the CPU go from a thin to thick line once the cpu is under the selection process. I'm saying you're ignoring that evidence.

So this means that this small detail of matching the exact same matchup of single vs cpu will give an alternate result from what your video showed.

UI looks like shit.
Gaps in Kirby's CPU bar
Lack of the wireless communication bar in some shots
Worst quality screenshot "ingame" ever
Zero video or proper gameplay to back it up
Inconsistent clipping with the stage UI
Overly clean bottom screen shots and ugly, dull muted top screen shots
"Disabalad"
No parting of the top and bottom screen on the "3DS", suggests computer based image, unless this is the new TurboDSXL
Characters having grey backgrounds when they're coloured in the demo and even in some shots here
"ESRB" who don't even play the game

Doesn't look real to me.
This was apparently recorded off screen from video footage captured off a 3DS, hence no bar between the top and bottom, as people showed earlier in this thread with GiantBomb feeds.

The ESRB doesn't play demos but they do receive video (as described above), and ShockingAlberto explained earlier they often require file-naming systems to be shown, hence the codename, which could also be used to internally track different builds.

Many of the UI differences could be attributed to new builds, to angle, lighting, etc.

Along with the hugely impressive character renders, and the timing with which this is released (why the middle of the week when the next PotD could disprove it) makes me inclined to think this may very well be real.

The sizing and positioning of the characters is completely off.

...I can't believe I'm doing this.

September 13 is closer than October 4. If this was a Japanese leak, it wouldn't be too far from release. This is almost 2 months from the NA release.

Actually, this could be the Japanese version of the game, since Smash traditionally has both languages to pick from regardless of what region the game is in.

Mother 3 had a handheld release. Also Galaxy stage in Wii U vs. 3D Land in 3DS.

You are Sakurai. You have X time, Y funds and Z resources. Your boss also told the world the game is going to come to two platforms, one of which is incredibly more difficult to develop for than historically. You are going to have to prioritize things. It would be a better use of resources to make one stage for a smaller franchise like Xenoblade and to put that on the console version of the game would make more sense.

It says ESRB, not CERO. Also Bowser, not Koopa.

Apparently it's a "shocking" new Pokémon project... so it's Great Detective Pikachu for 3DS :L

Already disproven, there's no pun for shocking in Japanese and can be translated as astonishing or surprising

But it does goes against the evidence. The argument was that the thickness would change when you select, but it doesn't. Notice also the date of the upload.

And since when did "multiplayer" and "1 player vs 3 cpus" become different from Smash?

I'd like to remind everyone that assuming the roster picture is real, it still isn't necessarily the whole roster.

Similar to how I do not believe 100% in the DLC stuff, I also do not assume this is the full roster.

If anything the somewhat strange positioning of the cast tells me maybe a few more are left to unlock, which will slot everyone into the right place. My guess is these are the only new comers though. Wouldn't be surprised if Ice Climbers are in.

Wasn't that feature only in the Western release of Melee? I don't think language option was available in any other release but I may be mistaken.

Holy shit. While that might not be the entire roster (we cannot say with absolute certainty) I am convinced it's real. I actually thought it was real before the line thing came to light, but still, it's amazing. Ridley might not be playable, and that might not be every DLC character (still, impressive lineup), I'm happy with this roster.

A few questions about the DLC bit:

Is that a single (Maybe Day 1?) DLC group or is that the lifetime DLC plan? I'd really believe either are possible at this point.

Either way, is the clearly unfinished character selection screen completed by further unlocks or that DLC? Certainly, if it is designed to be completed by the DLC, that gives some credence to the idea that what is rumored is the lifetime DLC plan, or at least the plan for the near future.

Wouldn't a third party potentially be upset to find their character relegated to DLC?

Voting #TeamReal for two reasons:

1. The apparent errors are inconclusive or small enough that I could see them not even being errors.

2. I like the roster a lot, it's only missing Ridley, Captain Syrup, Mewtwo, and a DK character - who could all reasonably be the remaining secret newcomers that the leaker addressed.

And also notice that Bowser has a thick line too but he's p1, same as the first vid, but in the second vid p1 has no thick line and p2 has an equal thin line.

Combined with the other aesthetic inconsistencies (Ness's design, Mr. Game and Watch having visible outlines, roster placement), I am questioning this leak's legitimacy.

Wouldn't a platform holder potentially be upset said third party is not releasing their main title for this generation of home consoles on their platform, despite also appearing on architecturally similar platforms from last generation?

Mother 3 was on a handheld. Its stage is from a console game. If Xenoblade doesn't have a stage, then it and Wii Fit will be the only series without stages on the 3DS version, which just seems off to me.

It says ESRB because it's being recorded and shown to the ESRB. And while it is from the English language version of the game, hence Bowser, you can pick languages in Smash regardless of where you get it, and it changes the names accordingly. So it could be, and probably is, a Japanese copy being played in English for recording purposes.
Although, honestly, I don't see why where it's from matters in a leak like this.

FAKE EDIT: Just now realizing that the original Mother has been on a handheld, so yeah lol. Still, would be weird for Xenoblade and Wii Fit to be the only series without stages on the 3DS.

Better DLC than completely cut.

Already, actually going to go to sleep soon, but to get more specific with the questions: assuming this is real, how do you guys feel about each revealed newcomer? (Bowser Jr. / Duck Hunt / Dark Pit / Shulk)

But it does goes against the evidence. The argument was that the thickness would change when you select, but it doesn't. Notice also the date of the upload.

Are you arguing the lines don't get thicker when selecting, or that they don't at all?

If it's only the former... ok? Doesn't matter how it happened but if it can happen it can explain the leak pic. Otherwise I know I'm not alone in here seeing that the lines do change size for whatever reason.

Wait, I'm confused. Which which is the second video? this one?

;_;

I played through Subspace Emissary again this weekend and I regret it deeply because it forced me to play as Squirtle and remember that he was the best part of Pokemon trainer.

Also, because of all the other reasons one regrets playing through Subspace Emissary.

Brawl didn't allow you to switch between English and Japanese.

Already, actually going to go to sleep soon, but to get more specific with the questions: assuming this is real, how do you guys feel about each revealed newcomer? (Bowser Jr. / Duck Hunt / Dark Pit / Shulk)

Bowser Jr.: Smash 4 needs a new villain! I'd rather have Ridley or K Rool or Hades, but I guess Bowser Jr. isn't too bad.
Duck Hunt: I don't see why. Like, it's just an odd pick to me. I'd rather have Mach Rider if it was a retro character.
Dark Pit: Just a clone most likely, so I don't care too much, I love Uprising so it's nice to see that game get more love.
Shulk: Eh. Seems fine to me. I don't really care much, though, and would've rather gotten Ray MK II or Chibi Robo or a series that's been around for a bit longer.

Is the DLC info from that same person or is it just someone piggybacking on all this info? The DLC thing is the most unbelievable part of the leak.

Also does anyone want to make a thread about this info?

I could see it being possible if some characters aren't ready in time for the 3DS version but will be in the Wii U version. Release the characters that aren't done in time as free DLC for the 3DS version.

Did no one see the vid I linked? The line thickness didn't change compared to before. The thickness changing isn't unique to the CPU, but also to the players, but it is not found in the vid I linked.

Wait, I'm confused. Which which is the second video? this one?

Yes.

Yeah. Where the fuck are the names huh? HUH?

Still #teamfake, always #teamfake!

That too.

I am a firm believer that the size of the portraits won't shrink, especially in the 3DS. Because of the nature of the 3DS, one can pretty much allow scrolling or flipping in the character select screen.

Already, actually going to go to sleep soon, but to get more specific with the questions: assuming this is real, how do you guys feel about each revealed newcomer? (Bowser Jr. / Duck Hunt / Dark Pit / Shulk)

Bowser Jr.: Unexpected, but I like it. I wonder if his style would just be a lite version of his fathers, or if he'll use the copter in the render in some way to fight. I hope he has a good ground game.

Duck Hunt: Also unexpected, but I can't believe that I love the way it looks. If it's true, they pulled off Duck Hunt's look beautifully. It still raises questions on the fighting style, though. It's probably pretty complicated, much like RosaLuma.

Dark Pit: Meh. Pit Clone with a few redesigned GFX and mechanics.

Shulk: I like it. I've never played Xenoblade, and I already think there are too many sword fighters in the game. Specifically Fire Emblem characters. But Shulk isn't FE, so he's cool in my book.

Dr. Mario: Fuck yes. Loved him in Melee.

Jigglypuff, Game & Watch, & ROB coming back ewwwwwwwww

I'd accept $10,000 to replay SSE, no less. I'm not sure why you'd do it for free.

Already, actually going to go to sleep soon, but to get more specific with the questions: assuming this is real, how do you guys feel about each revealed newcomer? (Bowser Jr. / Duck Hunt / Dark Pit / Shulk)

1. Duck Hunt Dog - DUCK HUNT DOG! Also, the model shown is wonderful and I can't imagine that character being at least more fun than ROB.

2. Bowser, Jr. - A vehicle-based character could be very interesting, and I like the precedent for an air-based fighter it sets. Because, you know, space dragons down the line.

3. Shulk - Maybe he'll be interesting enough to convince me to play the game he came from.

4. Dark Pit - Clone complaints aside, he's perhaps the least memorable character in Uprising. Also, clone complaints.

Already, actually going to go to sleep soon, but to get more specific with the questions: assuming this is real, how do you guys feel about each revealed newcomer? (Bowser Jr. / Duck Hunt / Dark Pit / Shulk)

Thats not even a question Duck Hunt is the most interesting one...what should his moveset be?

Why does the date of the upload matter? They are using the same build, Nintendo brought the same builds to their showcases thus far, also the 4 days apart videos could have even been taken the same day, the person who uploaded on the 18th might have taken it on the 13th. Upload date proves nothing.

Also and again most importantly.

We have two vides.

One which shows the line changing, another which does not.

There is only one difference between the two videos.

The first video which matches the character having a thicker line on the selected slot, also matches the leak in being a single player match with CPU only.

Yeah. Where the fuck are the names huh? HUH?

Still #teamfake, always #teamfake!

They are nameless to compensate for the 3DS smaller screen. They could have shifted the portraits slightly because of this.

All it takes is for one character, or maybe even stage, to be confirmed for this to be fake or real. But no... Smash Run.

Sakurai hinted at both Mr. Game and Watch and Dark Pit. Dark Pit is definitely in the game. This isn't like the Subspace Emmissary where he could potentially make a cameo.

Palutena literally says, "Dark Pit, here to crash my party?"

Already, actually going to go to sleep soon, but to get more specific with the questions: assuming this is real, how do you guys feel about each revealed newcomer? (Bowser Jr. / Duck Hunt / Dark Pit / Shulk)

Bowser Jr. - AWFUL. Worst character in the roster. One of the worst Mario characters. I hated him in Sunshine, NSMB and Galaxy Games. Fuck Bowser Jr. and there are tons of newcomers I'd have preferred. Mario series is also super over-represented.

Duck Hunt Dog
(Just "Duck Hunt" is dumb and is one of many things that makes me a bit skeptical) - AWESOME. An inspired choice you can only find in the world of Smash Bros and a great nod to a classic & pivotal Nintendo title.

Dark Pit - MEH. He's a clone so its low effort and I know he didn't get in over any other superior KI character like Medusa or Hades. Whatever.

Shulk - NEAT. I've never played Xenoblade but from what some people have said his "sword" can do and the sweet music I'm always being linked to this seems like a great addition to me.
