The inclusion of Bowser Jr. bugs me for some reason (I like BJ, I'm just not entirely down on him being playable in Smash), as does Ice Climbers being made DLC, but this roster is fine with me otherwise.

But yeah, so many series are only represented by past stages, which of course is convenient as you don't have to come up with a new stage graphic for them.
Also I find the mix of new and old on one screen a bit odd. Both Melee and Brawl separated the past stages and I'd not be surprised if this game did the same.
A load of Hoo-ey you could say.
I'm not alone in looking at the Yoshi's Island box and thinking that it's a really poor angle to represent the stage right?

As for Shulk in the pic, if ever he's in I doubt it will look like that. It's pretty ugly IMO. But it's pretty good detail, I give them that.
To be fair, it's not like Shulk being hideous is an unprecedented deviation from the source material.
Would be sweet but hardly happening. Maybe with the release of Smash U at earliest.
Especially because DLC is going to be WiiU exclusive

Shulk being butt ugly is half the reason why I've never been keen on Shulk.

I'm still convinced it will be free and added over time to hype the WiiU version and keep sales going for as long as possible.
And without Fludd, which I think is a major pro to having Doc. He'd be classic Smash Mario.

I honestly really do not like Shulk's design at all.
I just found it & brought it here to get SmashGAF's thoughts. I probably should have mentioned it in the initial post.
The only good thing I can see with Dr. Mario is that he'd most likely retain the Mario Tornado (or the Galactic Spin in Project M's case). Never was a huge fan of the FLUDD, unless it got buffed in this game.

It sounds like there may have been more than one leaker in that 4chan thread, both posting pictures, one as an Anon and the other as "MOTHERFUCKIN' LEAKER." The latter was the one to make the DLC claim.

I could see them releasing DLC day one with the Wii U launch, but having that also hit the 3DS version on the same day. It would make sense to kind of hold off on those characters until they're finished up between launches, and then you get around the day 1 DLC drama thing by having it hit both platforms simultaneously, after one has been out for a while.
It makes it look less like they're delaying the characters on purpose, and more like they finished the characters after the 3DS version came out but before the Wii U version came out.

If anything, we need less protagonists wearing shorts of any kind. A significant reduction in blond-haired, blue-eyed teenaged male protagonists would also be nice.

While the in-game shot of Shulk could've easily taken it from the second leaker, the Ganondorf portrait also lines up with the character select screen from the first leaker and the doctor Mario portrait in the second leak is consistent with the character select portrait from the first leak, so they obviously are sharing resources. Or it's real. Either way I guess they're consistent of least.

I'm not defending it, but if the deniers want to use the Little Mac-Shulk theory, or if the believers want to disprove it, a natural thing to do would be to make the same overlay comparison between Little Mac and Robin, in order to establish how similar the face structure is for two characters we already know are real.

That's one of the mysteries we're trying to solve. Either all of them are sharing resources, or all of the leaks came from the same footage. Alternately, it's just one person sending pics to different people, who are then all posting it separately.
Leaker three was on Gamefaqs. To me it seems like its piggybacking on the other leaks since it came much later, but the Ganondorf profile is at least kind of new.
As for render gate, yeah it's possible to make a good one. But to go through the effort of creating so many? I don't doubt someone would want to do that for the lulz, but to have the capabilities and patience for it is another thing.
Let's look at the two posted:
These are cool looking, but seem like 2D drawings as opposed to 3d renders.
Compare with real ones:
Put side by side you can see the comparison between the mock ups and the real thing. Bowser Jr. and Duck Hunt look much closer to a render.
The idea behind it would be: because both have access to the same sort of source, maybe that's a tag in a current build etc. Or, more likely, the other leaker(s) are trying to copy cat the first.
All thee having the same Shulk art/render seemed like a big deal to me at first... then I realized the other two probably just copied the first. Or the guy's lying and actually made all three.
The gameplay shot certainly looks like a picture of Brawl with character hacks.

I think we are due for a bimonthly Direct, anyway. I don't see why the Hyrule Warriors Direct would be the only one this month, especially when Bayo 2 still doesn't have a release date and Captain Toad is still in limbo in NA and Japan.
