You can't just detain someone for nothing. You can't legally be detained once an investigation is over. What did they investigate?

The point Dead man is trying to iterate is that the police should not put themselves in a situation where they have to disarm a knife wielding individual in close quarters. The situation would be too fluid to predict and pose an unnessary risk of harm to the officer.

Instead other methods should be employed will allow the officer to stay out of harms way while allowing the situation to be defused without the loss of life.

There is nothing at all in his posts that imply that he is defending the overzealous act of shooting a knife wielding man 10 tens.

Kharvey, we'll just have to agree to disagree, though I think we overlap more than not in total. I don't mean to suggest he was as safe as the people nearby, though I agree I used pretty loose language, but that also doesn't mean I agree the civilians were in an immediate threat of serious bodily harm. They were far away from the actual suspect and the police would have had plenty of time to react had he moved toward them. They certainly didn't seem to think they were in much danger either.

The fact that most incidents are resolved safely is why I feel confident this situation was resolved poorly. The officers made nearly all the wrong choices and created a scenario where they would feel compelled to use deadly force. I don't think the use of deadly force is justified if you create the circumstances when you had multiple opportunities to pursue other actions that would have mitigated or avoided it.

The point is random NeoGAF posters #x and #y are not medical professionals and have no business telling us what injuries did or did not occur based on photos. Your selective bolding does not change anything. I'm waiting for medical professionals; must be something wrong with me.
 
i was discussing this with one of my professors earlier today, and we got onto the subject of if there are valid reasons for average citizens not to trust the police to think clearly when dealing with people in tense situations. we got onto the old Stanford Prison Experiment and the idea that poeople are fill a role they are given. and wondered if these officers get caught up in the subconscious psychology of fulfilling a role. if you think back to how easily normal people naturally picked up on authoritarian nuances and how that changed the way they treated the people who were cast as prisoners in the experiment , i then think there is a valid reason to think people who serve on the police force do have a change in thinking when putting on the uniform and dealing with the average person. whether it's conscious or not, i do think you could infer that there is a minset that comes along with the uniform and i think that needs to be looked into further with studies.

And your post doesn't change anything either. There's no reason not to be skeptical of the entire investigation, considering everything else about it has been fishy. You're more than welcome to "wait for the facts" all you want to, but admonishing someone else for doing the rounds based on the information they have, while also pretending that a statement from a medical professional is somehow going to clear everything up is ridiculous.

I guess GAF shouldn't speculate on anything at all then, since many of us aren't professionals within the things we speculate about. SHUT IT DOWN.

The more and more people you expect to be in a conspiracy the more absurd it sounds. Adding multiple radiology techs, image processors, radiologists, orthopedists, and nurses to any assumption that an uninjured person will suddenly develop fake evidence of being injured is certainly something.

The likelihood is he won't have evidence of being hurt because he wasn't hurt. You need something more than saying medical processionals are on the take to make an argument.

I never said it was a "conspiracy". What I am saying is that there's nothing about the police chief, the prosecutor, or any facet of this investigation that has come out which would make me believe they're telling the absolute truth. If it turns out that the independent investigation yields the same results as the one done by the Ferguson police department, that's a bridge we can cross when we get there. But attempting to shut down people who are skeptical as conspiracy theorists is at best disrespectful, and at worst threadshitting. It's bad enough when people come into threads like this with a holier than thou attitude because the discussion isn't framed in terms they agree with, but then you top it off with conspiracy theorist accusations!

The thing is, the only way they would have been able to prove their version is if they were wearing cameras. Nobody will believe the police now even if by some miracle they do turn out to be in the right in regards the initial incident.

It at least shows that they have a heart, which I hope this action is sincere. It's not a ad move and doesn't seem to be implied to be the end all of the conflict. Just an olive branch of good will after fucking up really badly. No need to get hostile like they do.

Certainly it's a nice gesture if it's sincere but it doesn't do much to address the actual issues. Maybe if the police force donated to put every child in Ferguson through college or something to that scale, they owe these people big time. That still doesn't do much to mend the chasm of distrust in the Police officers either because it doesn't prove they intend to change anything internally. Until they do that it's all just band-aids. They made a mockery of what it means to enforce the law on a world-wide scale.

These officers should be out there helping to rebuilding this town themselves after this is all over. They should be waiting on these people hand and foot until everything is repaired. It's nice they fired Officer Gofuckyourself but of the officers that are threatening to kill people with loaded weapons, they should be fired and charged accordingly. They can't even muster the smallest apology though so the thought of that happening is ridiculous.

Everything they are doing right now feels like they are trying to twist everything into a "we got the bad guys and peace was restored" happy ending for all the viewers at home.

During the rally for Michael Brown on Sunday, MSNBC host Al Sharpton announced that his National Action Network was going to work with Bishop Larry Jones for a voter registration drive to drive up voter turnout.

Not all, but a lot of the donations on Wilson's page are obvious trolls.
