Polytron Hacked?

The TLDR version is that somebody engaged in a wide array of questionable behavior including decided to cheat on her boyfriend with 5 different people in the games/game journalism industries with the aim of trading sex for positive coverage of her game. This was outted after her boyfriend discovered the cheating and made it public. There was a backlash against her actions. Phil Fish defended her at one time deciding to tweet to gamers that "you are essentially rapists."

Except that all of those claims were false. The only actual journalist she's accused of sleeping with never wrote anything positive about her game after he's accused of sleeping with her (the only time he ever wrote about the game directly was months before, and the only other time he wrote about her at all was about a clusterfuck indie jam that she took part in).

No. They are mostly responsible for this whole quinnspiracy bullshit in the first place. The board as a whole never liked Fish and made it their business to fuck with him all the time. They sowed the seed of this whole anti-SJW movement and now they actually fucking killed a game and game company over it. moot should just nuke the fucking board and let /vg/ and /vr/ be the only gaming boards.

I don't feel like it is at all unreasonable to blame /v/ for a lot of this. I also don't think it is at all rational to nuke /v/. All that would accomplish is /v/ hijacking a different board.

So if the game is $15, Sony would instead pay the publisher $3.75 for every PS+ download?

I meant 75% of the total wholesale cost (not 75% discount), sorry.

If the wholesale cost was $15, then Sony get to purchase it at $11.25.

Seems like a pretty good deal.

That is indeed a version of events in the mind of someone who didn't read a fucking thing related to that story.

It's like some horrible game of conspiracy telephone.

As someone who is a little out of the loop with online-things.

What does "stealing your identy" entail? Is it "only" bank account data?

When I read "they revealed his entire personal information" what does that entail?

Small info down to diary level activities?

It's pretty thorough - bank account transactions, tax records, royalty reports for every platform Fez was released on, account names and passwords, personal information - everything you could possibly think of and then some.

I doubt they'll ever find the person(s) responsible, but I hope they do. This kind of stuff just can't be allowed to happen, no matter who the target is.

So I'm checking out /v/ and saw his banking info... It's not bad, it's just the numbers you can get off a cheque. So you can use that info to... send him money, I guess.

I assume something is missing from the article since it makes no mention of what exactly drove Phil Fish to decide to jump into this. When people mentioned SJW I assumed this was some sort of feminism thing yet the article paints her as little more than abhorrent human being, not a feminist of any sort.

She claimed to be hacked on tumblr which caused him to jump into this. If she was they weren't very good, she claimed they were calling her "dad" on twitter but the number was a bike shop in new york.

She's claimed and rallied feminists ideals while going completely against them in her personal life but because it's her personal life it's not supposed to be anyone's business.

Fez 2 was never going to happen anyway, you guys. It took how long for Fez? No way 2 would be anywhere near as good and Phil knows that, it's why he trolls about it.

For the hundredth time, that didn't happen.

None of this happened. She didn't use her magical vagina to sway journalist to give her FREE game positive reviews. Stop spreading this shit.

I actually don't want to know what this is all about, but go ahead and say what happened if the guy you quoted was wrong.

Regardless, how this gets more exposure than game publisher behavior, despite (apparently) mostly being personal drama is beyond me.

You can't just judge an entire group based on the actions of a set of individuals within that group. It's no different from someone condemning all Muslims because there are terrorists who claim to do it for Islam. It's the kind of thinking that breeds needless hate.

Wow...Looks like all hopes of Fez 2 actually happening are completely off the fucking table.
Seriously...this is sickening.
:( I just now got to play fez because of ps+ and I have gone through the whole game dycrypting and solving everything with no guides. One of my favorite games, and now I find out there may never be a fez 2 because if this. Fuck.

That plus the social security number and address (which are also in the hack) could probably get the bank to send you a replacement credit card in his name.

I dislike Phil Fish but this is pretty bad. I do feel sorry for the guy, he doesn't deserve this. As someone working in Infosec, you pretty much see that breaches are so damn common these days. So, do what you can to safeguard your info online. Don't over-share on social media, encrypt your files, use two factor authentication, and use strong passwords. Make it as hard as possible for people to do things like this to you.

Hopefully they will be caught. All depends on whether a proper investigation is done, and how clumsy they were in their hacking. Hope for the best for him though, this sucks.

Oh yeah I'm not advocating for that. It's just that a lot of the key players who set off this fucking games industry hurricane represent /v/. I did notice an odd similarity when that other poster mentioned "nuke /v/, they host baddies" (totally 100% legit quote.)

One of the alleged people had only briefly covered her game many months before the infidelity was supposed to have taken place, and he never covered it after.

A second "gave her positive coverage" by listing Depression Quest among 50 other games on Steam Greenlight and not saying much about it.

I haven't looked into the others very thoroughly.

There is definitely a Streisand effect to this whole thing, but it's hard to predict what would have happened if people had moderated differently. It could very well have blown up even worse.

While different sites have different moderation, that reddit thread with 22 thousand deleted comments seems to have propelled this to an entirely different level of notoriety.

Yea, while I know get why they did that, the reddit mods really messed up with that. They pissed off hundreds of people, thousands even.

People are fucking garbage.

Even if you don't like Phil, don't even try to remotely justify this. Nobody deserves this. It's just sad.

Working in this industry has always been my dream, but this makes me want to go another path.

Ahhh yes, the evil censorship of a persons private life.

I hope I don't have to say that I don't agree with discussing Zoe Quinn's private life, as that has absolutely nothing to do with us and is none of our business whatsoever, and the claims are bullshit to begin with, but I'm asking whether the fact they were silenced (rightfully so) is why they did this?

It's worth noting that a very enormous chunk of all the fighting going on is based on the assumption that everything they were told is true, or is simply despite knowing it's false. You can't really rationally explain a lot of what is currently going on using facts, most of the people on the other side don't care one way or the other.

This is not fake. Far from it. I took a look at the archive and it matches publisher documentation I have seen from another developer.

Wow. I don't event know what to say.

This. And just the fact that apparently his social and government docs were included in the leak? That's shit you can't "close" and start fresh with. That's permanently fucked. He's probably going to have extra procedures/be denied certain financial freedoms for the rest of his life.

Like holy shit.

That's always confused me about the concept of the SSN. It's this super duper secret number that you must not let anyone have! It's about the length of a phone-number and you have to give it to your school, your boss, your landlord, your bank, but omigawd don't let anyone find out!!!!!11!

What kind of system is that?

Looks like all the information between him and Steam/Sony/MS. So stuff like financial statements, tax things, sales data, all of that.

Can you post it here? I don't want to go to /v/ but I'm interested.

You want it, just go on /v/

Visiting a website isn't gonna open your PC to teh haxxorz.

Damn. i feel sorry for Phil Fish. He might spew some bullshit or insane opinion on twitter, but he did not deserve this.

I hope that hacker get caught.

And i agree with Ben Kuchera on this one.

Also, definitely not /v/

I don't even know how to respond to this.

Are videogames lesser than anything else really?

Videogames = money (most of the time) = time = life?

No?

why would i want to waste my time, and thus life/money, doing this to prove something about some random person's personal life whose tangential relationship to anything i care about in videogames affects me in no way, shape or form

The sad thing is, is that this whole ordeal with Zoe and Phil is because of absolutely nothing. All these people who are confused about what's going on simply need the explanation "It happened because it just did". Just a few assholes that felt like watching a shitstorm ensue.

Salty ex boyfriend hints that woman slept with a journo.

Accusation says that she slept with him in order to get him to write positive press and praise her games.

People making the accusation forget that it is easy to fact check this claim and see that it is false, yet people keep saying it like it is true without double checking that the two articles he wrote (one announcing 50 steam greenlight games which included hers and the other a highlight on a failed gamejam/reality tv show) were written before they slept together.

The conversation spends more than needed time focusing on the charge of "infidelity" (the number of times I've seen that word recently...) and railing against white knights, feminazis, and "social justice warriors" (sjw).

It's all incredibly dumb.
