Maturity, bitches.
I give them credit for making it a video. Seems weird to not show more of the other screen or more stuff in general though.
Of course something like this is easy to fake even with film as you'd just need a series of images and flick between them.

I'm so glad the thread slowed down while I was sleeping. Now I only needed to read like ten pages after I woke up, instead of the thirty or so I'd need if that pace kept up.

If you look back at his posts, he was really asking for it. I think he's been trying to get banned for the past few days with the way he was posting.
Yeah, I read all that. What is wrong with him/her?

Being ugly is a convincing angle to go for looking back at Sonic's Brawl alts.

Eh, they weren't out-and-out ugly, just incredibly bland.

Masked Man

I said wow
I think it was Oric who pointed out to me earlier that the Ballad of the Godess remix that was in the E3 demo sounded as if it was transitioning into Ghirahim's theme towards the end so it's likely the same track across both versions just that they updated the song title.
But yeah before I heard this I was thinking the same at first, too much Goddess ballads, not enough Windfish.

Just checked footage from E3, and the guitar riff toward the end is definitely a sped-up version of the accordion melody from Ghirahim's Theme. Nice find!

It's not really lying (at least, not in the spirit of that word) when someone is clearly making stuff up and makes no effort to hide that fact.

The problem is that hype is at an all-time high, and misinformation--especially regarding Japanese "translations"--spreads like wildfire. Whether it's intended as a joke or not, I don't know if that many people are laughing.

What should it say? Not arguing, I am really curious.

My understanding would be that the "Selecting..." only displays when a player is choosing his or her character, but Players 2-4 have already selected random and thus are not actually still selecting. I could be mistaken, of course, but that was the first peculiarity that leapt out at me.

You can't. Taking away options makes the game less complex. That's just common sense.

Well that's just silly. Complexity is not defined by volume of options, it's defined by how those options interact. If there's one brain-numbingly easy thing you can do that obviously gives you the advantage all the time (holding the edge to prevent another character from grabbing it), removing it will force people to come up with alternative strategies.

Yeah, that bit about the Ice Climbers music was probably ill-advised. Still, I think the only people who bought it are the ones who haven't been around long/had much exposure to afoni. I learned pretty quick that afoni always posts "in character," and I came to appreciate him/her. I hope this isn't another six-month ban.

So we are all in a good mood here about the music but has anyone been discussing this?

Sonic's potential Metal Sonic costume leak?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FW8bOeqLS2g&feature=youtu.be

There are a few things that could explain player 4 before player 3. A few. I'm in the middle as always.

Obviously there are parts of this video that throw me off, but I really hope Sonic has a Metal Sonic alt regardless. That'd be sick.

also, the YouTube account is named Leaker Water. lul.

Classic case of someone that is pretty convinced they are smarter than everyone else but is frustrated they don't get enough opportunities to show it.

But why would someone just make stuff up to try and prove that point? It's confusing.

I've also wondered why people create fake leaks. It's a weird thing where they sort of get attention for it, but more often than not the original "leaker" (faker) remains anonymous, so they don't really get any attention or recognition at all...

I can understand the leak thing, if you are good with Photoshop or something and want to prove yourself, or just get more attention for whatever characters you put in the leak.

I love the fact that despite the 3DS version only gets 2 songs per stage, the rest of the music is still on the cartridge! That's the biggest megaton for me. I was worried the handheld version would get shafted music-wise, but I'm happy to see that that isn't the case.

So, serious question here.

How many of y'all are pro/tournament level players? I've always only been fair-to-middling at Smash, and that's been fine with me. My friends/family that live around here and play are also not great. I love a little more than half the time but I have fun. I feel like 99% of this edge-guarding/wave-dashing/tripping/fall-speed stuff is going to have absolutely no effect on my enjoyment of the game.

So, when I see people really hung up on these little details, I have to assume they just play at a higher level than I do, because I couldn't care less about edge guarding, y'know?

So, how many of you are for fun, how many are for glory?

Congratulations for reaching critical asshole levels.

I'm not specifically singling anyone out here but give Jedi Link a break, inflection isn't a thing on the internet and Heath knows he is deaf. Now I don't have a disability but perhaps he doesn't want to be treated differently? I love you, Heath!

Well hold your horses now, we don't know that all the music is on the cartridge. Just "more than is necessary for menu themes and two per stage."

But, they don't get any attention for their skills at all! At least, not that I'm aware of, you know? For instance, let's say this most recent leak with DH and Bowser Jr. (BJ?) is fake, I'd assume that the original creator of the fake would never come forward, so he or she never gets any accolades for the quality of their work, right?

Ah, thank you. That Multi-Man Smash is pretty good and what do they mean by "play in sleep mode"?

You can close the 3DS and still keep music playing.

They'll know that their skills were sufficient enough to cause a significant number of people thinking these were legitimate shots. To some creators, that's all that really matters.

For glory forever and always.

I can't imagine ever not playing to win in a multiplayer game, it just doesn't compute in my mind, even if I'm just playing with kids/people I know are much worse than me, i'll put items on maybe but I'll still play completely seriously 100% of the time.

Heath is deaf? I had no idea. Isn't English not his first language too? Dude, he can communicate well in a second language that he doesn't have the benefit of hearing/speaking.

Looking back at the timestamps for posts, last night's update took forever to get out. o_0

Granted it was a pretty big update, at first though I was wondering if the leak changed what the original PotD was.

Anyways, disappointing we don't have a trailer confirmed for next week. Hopefully there'll be a Nintendo Direct though.

I'm kinda in the middle. 99% of the time I only play with my good buddies, and while we're fairly good at the game we never really play it like the competitive community does. We usually do have items off, but it's typically not super combo-heavy and not a lot of off-stage shenanigans. So SSB4 changing these things up actually won't affect my day-to-day play at all, it'll mainly just canonize the stuff we've always done.

I always find myself frustrated on the rare occurrences that I DO play against strangers competitively, tho, since the game is played pretty differently from how I usually play it. So with SSB4 kind of bringing the whole thing more in line with what I'm already comfortable with, I'm excited to see if I can start doing better in competitive situations.

I'd never want to work in the Treehouse, I mean, it's probably my dream job, the most beatiful and self-realizing experience, but not being allowed to post in NeoGAF? Come on, I'd rather work at GameStop.

I'd quit you guys in a heartbeat, no offense :p

I'd still lurk!

Some people do it to create commotion or panic in the fanbase. To see how many people they can fool. It's the same reason, for a completely random example, you might claim the Japanese text in a PotD says somthing that you know it doesn't.

I've heard some fakers claim they do it to spur 'discussion' too.

Yeah, well, if someone did fake this most recent one, it's extremely high quality. Nintendo should hire them for concept art if nothing else.

Still #TeamReal btw.

Sometimes all you want is the knowledge you tricked people. Never revealing yourself adds to that. If you're good at Photoshop you have other avenues to get personal recognition so a one off secret job isn't going to have any impact on your ego.

I mean just look at 4chan as a whole (since that's one of the source of the leak), the whole place prides itself on anonymity and making a name for yourself is frowned upon. Thus someone who frequents there wouldn't think twice about never having their name attached to this.

I was thinking of the DLC characters a lot last night.

I can get why they would theoretically hold back the Ice Climbers & the Chorus Men, to get the multi-person mechanic working properly across both versions. As for Snake, maybe Konami & Nintendo agreed to have Snake back too late in the game & Sakurai wanted to prevent what happened with Brawl (adding Sonic at the last-minute at the cost of Mewtwo) by relegating him to DLC. That leaves the question, what about Lucas & Wolf? As semi-clones, you'd think they'd be easy to squeeze in unless there were really bad time constraints.

Heh, yeah. "Just to mess with people" makes sense for some of it. Just, those really high quality leaks/fakes would take so much time and effort. It's hard to imagine the person who has the skill to pull that off and also wants to just for shits and giggles.

I think edge hogging gives the on-stage player too much of an advantage. I mean obviously the person not flying through the air to his possible death should be at an advantage, but to me there are more tools in the on-stage players arsenal when compared to the recovering player. The most effective of these is obviously the edge hog, which is something that is pretty easy to do although it there is a large margin of error.

By removing the edge hog mechanic, you force the on-stage player to make more complex choices. Do you engage in the air for more damage? Go for a meteor strike? Forego that risk and try to finish it back on the stage? I admit it may make for longer matches and finishes are harder, but to me it is more exciting.
You can still do most of that stuff with SSB4's edge mechanics beyond canceling their edge grab via invincibility frames. That's the part I think is dull. Things like general edge guarding, grabbing the edge to position yourself for more attacks, and engaging an opponent in the air near the edge is all fine. But in the moments where M2K uses the edge hog invincibility thing, I think that's too unfair for the other opponent. There's really nothing they can do in that situation and the risk for the on-stage player isn't great enough.
Ok, I see where you're coming from. The invincibility from grabbing the edge is kind of obnoxious and I'm glad that's gone. Long, high percent stocks can be exciting at times too, so I see what you mean there.

I think a lot of my problem with it is the overall combination of Brawl's ledge snap mechanic and the new removal of edgehogging. That, plus the hitboxes present with most up-B moves, means that it's rarely advantageous for the recovering player to go for any other option, at least I'd expect.

But like you mentioned, hopefully it does encourage more of the high risk, high reward offstage edgeguards. That would be cool, certainly.

So what's the consensus about the list of musicians under the songs? Big deal or not?

Big deal because there's a lot of big names, but there's no reason to assume that they're there because they're doing music for a series they've worked on in the past.

Yeah, and since I'm assuming the online will be a much more viable option this time around than it was with Brawl (oh please, oh please, oh please) I guess I need to at least be aware of the higher level concepts so I can hold my own online.

Like with Mario Kart, in the N64 one I didn't even know how to powerslide for a long time, now with MK8 I've learned a lot of the nuances just because I have to to even have a chance against the people that play online.

I like that the depth is there, I just am not familiar enough with it to get upset about changes. Looking forward to learning.
