It doesn't bother me, I'm just surprised at the quantity of people who seem bothered by such small changes. I thought everyone on here must be a pro or something!
The violins and drums sound fantastic with headphones in. Amazing track, and it is very hype for the mode it is for.
Well the air dodge can be used many times but it also comes out really quick and ends quickly enough that it's very easy to dodge aerials from the player defending the stage.
The new edge mechanics have gone too far, stopping planking by removing the constant ledge invincibility was great but letting another player grab the ledge whilst another person is on it as well as that is dumb.
You can't grab the ledge to stop someone coming back because they'll just force you off the edge and it's not worth jumping off the stage and chasing because of how small the gap between air dodges is and how good recovering seems to be.
I can see comebacks being a very rare thing due to the fact that a good low percent edgeguard kill against a good player just isn't going to happen.
I just can't see any outcome where he game is more exciting due to these changes but can definitely see it being less so.
It's like in the SDCC GFs, when a player got sent off and both players were actually playing well (i.e. not playing dumb and getting suicide grabbed or constantly recovering high into Bowsers ftilt instead of sweetspotting), basically nothing happened until the player got back on the stage, it was incredibly boring.

Not quite the same functionality. Random from clicking off to the side randomly throws the counter on to a character box so you can see who they are before a match. The random box on the other hand keeps it secret until the match has begun.
The two empty spaces in melee basically worked as random select
until you unlocked Sonic and Tails for getting 20 kills in cruel melee

Why on earth is it not just tossed onto a level? Who cares if not every level has 3 songs, some Brawl stages had tons and some had like 4.

very VERY true. I did love that part of brawl. I think it also increased load time when you picked random, but I could be wrong.
I think ACE being on the game really is pushing me to believe Shulk is all but confirmed, but I am trying to hold my expectations in check.

Yeah, it makes no sense how the bonus tracks are just for listening to during Smash Run and the MP3 mode.
Oh well, more music the better. 40 composers on this pretty awesome, it feels not just like a celebration of Nintendo, but a celebration of musicians. Keep it up Nintendo!

If someone wants to go ahead and play Ballad of the Goddess on Battlefield why not let them?
I wonder if this is something they could just patch in. Ballad of the Goddess would work fine on Gerudo Valley or even Spirit Tracks, so it's just kind of disappointing if it's not due to some arbitrary rule about 2 songs per level.
Makes me wonder if the music system for the 3DS version is based heavily on the Melee system so it's only set up for 2 songs.
True, I don't get it as well. If there are bonus tracks that can be associated with a stage, why is there a limit on the number of tracks that can be used per stage?
More incentive to buy the Wii U version for the "full experience"? Sounds like a dumb reason but its the only one I can come up with.

Yea, I always wished My Music in Brawl listed every song from a series instead of one specific for that level.
75m for example was a terrible level, but the music on that level works really well on any Donkey Kong level and the remixes are quite good. Which is a shame it's buried in that pit of a level.
Even if it is Melee's music system, there's no reason they couldn't allow for 3 or 4 if they're going to add separate tracks anyway for the sake of it.
Seems like Sakurai decided towards the end of development for extra songs and forgot to allow for more than 2 on each stage. Even then, it makes little sense.

This is a shot in the dark, but maybe putting those bonus tracks in stages would mess up the music selection process. With only two tracks per stage, no My Music page would be necessary; each stage could have a default track, and you have to hold L+R or something when selecting the stage to get the alt track (isn't that basically how Melee worked?) However, with more than two tracks per stage, that wouldn't work. The track selection would either be random or they'd have to add a My Music page, but if there aren't enough bonus tracks for every stage, it wouldn't make sense to add a whole new page for just a few stages.
Again, this is a wild guess, but it might explain things.

It would do because Brawl is designed to start loading characters at the select screen. In fact flicking between costumes is not advisable because you keep resetting the loading process every time you flip.
1. Maybe this was a last minute decision and chunking in the songs was easy to do whereas adding them to a stage required a bit more work. I mean they said it was based off Melee so a My Music mode is unlikely to have been made for the 3DS version so you'd have to consider that would need to be implemented.
2. As in the button? Well that would replicate the throwing of the cursor (as you can't click outside the portraits in the design from E3 and the leak) but it wouldn't replicate the random box. You need some way to choose not to have the character selected until the match begins.
Me too! It's a lot more fun to go random when you don't have the option to veto. It helps too that Brawl has several more characters, so random is that much cooler.
Bring back the random button for Sm4sh!

Yes, the select button. I don't think it's used in any 3DS game at all, so it's obviously not currently set to something. Or x, or y, or down on the d-pad, lots of choices, finding a button isn't an issue. Could even be a button on the touch screen for all we know, we've never seen the 3DS menu with customization on.
And this would instantly lock your player slot to the random selection, as the random button on the UI itself does.
Random was also great when you needed to put in AI characters it allowed you to keep things moving quickly. Of course even with 35 characters to select the AI somehow managed to always pick the character I was playing as every other match -.-
And they could do so by pressing x, y, down on the d-pad, use the touchscreen, or the multitudes of other solutions to this trivial issue.

I feel mixed on the whole random = mii if customization is on, it makes a lot of sense, though assuming the leak and dlc is true with customization on there would seemingly be no way to randomly pick your character even in the melee style.
I also wonder how customization will work with AI, does the AI randomly have a set of customized moves/equipment? Or do you have to pick it all for them?

I've been to quite a few tournaments (both Melee and Brawl), won a couple and placed pretty highly in others (all Brawl as I find Melee dull), but I despise tournament rule sets/mindsets. My friends and I love the metagame that comes with catching, throwing, evading, and using items well, so we usually play with most items and stages on. So we play at a pretty high level, just not by Melee tournament rule set standards. We play For Glory under the rule sets we prefer and it's all For Fun, because what's the point of Smash if it isn't fun?

So it turns out in the 3DS control API select and start return the same thing, according to some google search for why no game uses it.

While this could work it seems like rather bad UI design to ask the user to switch the way they select something and we know UI is pretty important to Sakurai seeing as he makes a point to talk about it.
Also say a CPU fighter is set to random (which also seems to be the default selection when you make one available), where's their counter going to be? Since there is no random box because the Mii box has replaced it, there's no counter to pick up and move around.
These are the kind of problem switching UI functions brings up. This is why people think the suggestion of the Random Box and Mii Box not being able to co-exist is silly.

I can see the stage musics being more compressed/shorter than the ones that are Music Player only, to avoid consuming too much RAM during a match.
After all, 3DS has only 128MB RAM, rounding 100 (assuming OS consumes the remaining 28MB). A high quality music file can be up to 10MB, thats too much to load just for music in a match, but it would also be unfair to NOT put high quality music in the game at all because of this.
You should never use all (or close to all) avaliable RAM, to avoid "worst cases" slowdowns, and I believe Sakurai Team knows it very well, after all, even the 3DS version run in solid 60fps

Same. So much so I even made sure to include it in my roster prediction (probably the only sane prediction I made).
Wait, why does the leaked roster need random to go away though? Slide Shulk up a row, and replace his icon with a Mii icon. The type (and maybe even the specific Mii) can then be chosen on the bottom screen along with your name, CPU levels, etc. Right?
Pick up their token and press whatever is set to the random button? I don't know. The option on the touch screen could even just be under the portrait or above it and specific for each player slot. It's clumsy, but everything about the 3DS GUI so far seems sort of clumsy.
Just if the leak is real (all aspects of it, including DLC), there isn't room on the CSS for Miis and a Random button at the same time, so one or the other will require a different input, and the random button is more of a niche use case than selecting three different characters is.
The leak has 5 DLC characters and there are 5 slots left on the CSS.

Mega Man Avatar and Chrono Trigger as favorite Game. That's it GameXplain is the best.
My point is that the counter has no where to rest if there's no random box to sit on. Otherwise it'll have to rest somewhere else, like say Mario, which again invokes unnecessary UI changes.
And it's not that niche when it's the default option for CPUs.
