Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XIII: Leak Dynasty

He's basically all-but-confirmed, but he's not 100% officially confirmed. I do not doubt for 1 second he's in the game, but he's not officially confirmed/revealed yet.

He has the same exact status as dark pit, as far as I'm concerned. Nobody thinks dark pit is 100% confirmed, but he was in the palutena trailer.
Dark Pit isn't a returning character.

This is kind of a dumb discussion because I don't think we're completely divorced from deductive reasoning but then again, this is the Smash thread.

Or my favorite option:

DLC characters are released day and date of their newcomer trailer. Any veterans also revealed in that trailer are part of the same bundle.

Free or not, doesn't matter. This allows more newcomer trailers between October and Wii U release.
But the only newcomer would be the Chorus Men, so that'd only be one trailer. They could make a non-CGI trailer for Snake like they did for Sonic, but that's it.

It'll go down one of these ways if it's true...

- The DLC characters are included w/ Wii U version from the start, & will be added to the 3DS version via a free update when the Wii U version comes out
- The DLC characters are time-locked, & will be automatically unlocked when the Wii U version comes out
- The Wii U version comes with a code to get the DLC characters free for the 3DS version, which would cost money for 3DS owners otherwise

I think these are the three that are most likely. Looking at it from the angle that they need something to hype the WiiU version with, getting Snake before the 3DS version gets it would be a huge boost in hype.

Snake can sell units more than I think any other DLC character could, they'll want him out there and used as new, WiiU specific advertisements. And I don't see them charging for old vets, that would look terrible PR wise for a game and system that needs all the positive PR it can get.

Heath, we all love you. You are the best. Just wanted to put that out there.

Also, Durden mentioned something about MGS being mentioned on the site. Please say this is true and conclude these means Snake is real.

I just realized that I made mistake in my paragraph by using double negative.

Thanks!

I'm speaking only in absolutes. He is not absolutely, 100% confirmed anywhere.

Is his presence in the trailer an incredibly heavy implication that he's returning? Absolutely. Would they have included him if he wasn't returning? Probably not.

I totally fully agree with you, I'm just saying it's not ABSOLUTELY confirmed.

Game and watch is almost certainly returning.

If you buy the 'DLC' leak, then sure.

I'm not believing anything that wasn't an in-game screenshot at this point.

i met him a few times.
not a guy you want to hang out with for a longer period of time :lol

It's like stephen colbert level of persona, i think. He's always 'in-character' in public, but I bet he's probably normal when at home w/ friends and family. Maybe even professionally (when doing VA work, not PR work). A side of him that many have not seen.

- The DLC characters aren't in either game from the start, & come later as paid DLC

I was more asking how do you think they'll announce it. Do you think it'll be mentioned in a direct or a PotD sometime near the 3DS release?

The notion of DLC for Smash sounds awesome. Hopefully that leak was true...

Sakurai has disappointed with adding clones before.

I'm in a tier?

You are the star tier my friend.

Snake would bring more hype for the Wii U version, especially if he's heavily marketed upon his reveal. And if they include the code for the 5 bonus characters free for the 3DS version, it'd be more incentive for 3DS players to get the Wii U version, & they could bypass the Cross-Buy stuff. Either way, my gut is telling me that if this leak is legit, the 5 DLC characters will be in the Wii U version to start with.

Aw, damn. :\

So what's this about a SmashGAF username list? I'm I missing it in the OP or something? I'd like to add myself.
It's in the OP, but you can't quote it to get the link because it's in an older thread. Here's the list, though: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...Qrcl008lknv2jyuCNVqRSJLxw/edit#gid=1405843848

If you want to add your info, quote this post and check the bottom for a link to fill out your info. I'll make sure to put you on my friends list.

When is smash coming out for Japan again? The 30th of august? I really want that entire list of characters injected into my bloodstream for hype.

In melee, he added ganon and dr. mario, two clear clones of falcon and mario respectively. lucas is another one when he was added to brawl. falco and wolf too.

Can someone make it so I have the smash logo lodged in my mouth? I wanna get hype for Smash
There's a thread in the off topic section of this site where you can request avatars, it's pretty awesome. Someone will do it for you pretty quickly, I'm on my phone though so I can't post the link to the thread.

Absolutely. No doubt in my mind only the 3DS version will get the DLC. Otherwise you run into weird cross buy issues and it adds more value to the WiiU version.

The DLC leak did come from the same source as the pictures, & there is a reason for why he could have obtained the info. So if the pictures are legit, there's a good chance that the DLC list is legit, as well. Plus the extra spaces could also provide a little credit towards the DLC aspect of the leak.

It's not a guarantee by any means, but the DLC part has a fair shot due to it being leaked alongside the pictures.

I'm assuming we're going to get a Smash direct a week or two before the Japanese release date that will show off whatever remaining newcomer trailers they have along with potentially the final roster. Then perhaps Sakurai can do something like "I'm sure you're wondering where Ice Climbers, Lucas, and Wolf are, unfortunately due to time constraits they were not going to be ready for the launch of the 3DS version, but we will continue working on them as we get ready for the WiiU launch and they will be added into the 3DS game later as DLC and will be in the WiiU version at launch. There will also be a few newcomers and other surprise dlc characters that will be worked on and released after the WiiU version is out, please stay tuned for more info"

Something like that

While I agree that the DLC leak came from the same source as the screenshots, I'm still not sold. We don't know where that person got the screenshots.

Friend? Friend of a friend? That person could have very well made up the DLC thing.

So, guys.. As we all know, the 'Challenger Approaching' banner is now gone from the site. We should definitely be getting a new character next week.
While it's true that nearly all characters have been announced after the "Challenger Approaching" banner has disappeared (Sonic and Diddy Kong are the sole exceptions because they were announced mere days after a prior announcement), there has never been any correlation between how long it takes to disappear and when another character will be announced. Several times has it disappeared in a brief week and then people stated that a character was for sure coming soon... and it took like another month.

There could be another character announced next week.

Or not.

I'd like to mention how amazing it is that Yoshihito Yano---who composed the Multi-Man Smash song--is responsible for the best song in Katamari Damacy.

Now hopefully they've nabbed Yu Miyake for the Wiii U version...

Also while I do want this game to have DLC, I really don't want 4 of the 5 DLC characters to just be veterans who were cut for time and finished later. Yes it's better then losing them completely, but I'd rather the DLC largely be for newcomers

I'd reword it to say 1 newcomer & a surprise reveal in time for the Wii U release.

I'm the opposite. Focus on the newcomers so they're all ready for the game's release. It would be nice to get more after, but they're not obligated to do that.

If it's free, it shouldn't really matter. Best case scenario is they do a patch for the 3DS that just finishes whatever code those guys were missing and unlocks them (or adds requirements to unlock them, that'd be more fun and make them blend into the base game better)

My hope is in 2-3 years we entirely forgot they weren't even part of the original release roster. Like, to the point where they start printing carts that are pre-patched with them on it, and it's just seamless.

Again, it's no guarantee, but we do have a reason for the DLC leak existing (the ESRB having to know any DLC with data within the game), so it's not outside the realm of possibility. And if the pictures are legit & the ESRB was watching the video, they likely got a document specifying the nature of the 5 DLC characters & what they will bring to the game.

Who do you honestly want it to be?

Ganondorf only because I think Wario would be a great choice for a reveal trailer like some have mentioned.

Skeptical, but no one's debunked the Famitsu thing yet. That's the main sticking point for me.

I'd be satisfied if that were the final roster.

BGBW shown how you can do this fairly easy with a copy of Tomodachi Life.

So using this picture i.e. I didn't even use decent in game screenshots, I thought, could I make a fake room for the Tomodachi stage?

Answer, yes.

r1yvZDo.jpg

Note, I made this very roughly literally drawing part with the brush tool. And yet when shrunk and blurred and angled you can't tell. So, no, it's not impossible for someone to make a fake shot for that level select screen.

Maturity, bitches.
I'll be honest, my problem with the idea that characters are being held back as DLC to leave something to hype the We U version is the characters listed arn't exactly the kind of names that'll make headlines.

Snake maybe, but that's about it.

No, I mean, what does it have to do with what I said?

Retailer exclusive character DLC as per Hyrule Warriors. I can't even imagine the rage.
Given Hyrule Warriors, it's not impossible. But given Snake's popularity, if he's not in the game for everyone to start with, whoever gets him as a pre-order bonus will get the most pre-orders. For example...

- Best Buy pre-orders get Snake
- GameStop pre-orders get the Chorus Men
- Amazon pre-orders get the Ice Climbers
- Wal-Mart pre-orders get Lucas
- Target pre-orders get Wolf

If this was the case, Best Buy would win with GameStop likely being in 2nd due to them actually having a newcomer.

You guys can also look through here to add any people that you'd like to add.

If you want to join the tournament, i'd have to put you down on the replacemen list. We already have 64 participants, which is what I capped it at.
PM the info needed.

I think people have agreed it's possible to make a copy of the room. More that it seems odd to have selected a never shown before room in Smash and get the right location for it.

Snake maybe, but that's about it.

Chances are they were held back for dev time and it's a happy accident they can be used for the WiiU promotion. We've got Ice Climbers, who are complicated characters. Chorus Men, same reason. And Wolf and Lucas are very low priority characters that don't lose any (major) sales or anything with their exclusion so dev time can be used on characters that are a bigger priority.

Except Snake, he was probably planned to be WiiU only and DLC on the 3DS.

I don't really consider this debunking.

It's sort of like saying

nFuANiJ.jpg

"It'd be really easy to fake this, all you do is take Slaking and then redraw him."

I don't consider it to debunk the rumors either, just that the same room posted in Famitsu doesn't prove or disprove it either.

I'm still highly skeptical.

lol

Even though I hate DLC more than most anyone, I almost want that to happen just for the reactions here. I guess I'd preorder at Gamestop.

It won't happen though. At worst, they'll still be downloadable on the eShop for everyone at a price. Nintendo's getting slimier and slimier... but they know not to leave that kind of money on the table.
