PSN, Battlenet, Riot, and others DDOSed; PSN returning lightly toasted with butter

It's not a shit post. These DDoSing assholes went after Xbox Live just like PSN and they were not successful. That means Sony needs to do what MS is doing for Xbox Live because it fucking stopped Microsoft's service from going down. I'm paying Sony money now for online so they better improve.
I love these posts. Funny all the time.
"Bu... but.... I'M PAYING MONEY NOW!!!!!"

Hes talking about your shitpost.

I always find this point of view really disgusting. It's like if a room service guy was stabbed on the way to your hotel room and you moaned at them because you are paying money, so they better not get stabbed on the way to your door.

None of this is Sony's fault. Sure, they aren't as prepared as MS, but Sony isn't as strong of a computer company. Microsoft really know and understand networks. You'll probably get some form of compensation worth more than the half an hours wage you've paid this month to use the service.

Is it possible to mask your presence on the internet entirely? I mean they seem pretty active on twitter, can't they trace them down thru that?

Sony, as a loyal fan and owner of Vita/PS3/PS4, can you please take the necessary steps to protect your online service from fucking DDoS attacks? I'm trying to play the games I paid for, on the service I paid for, on the console I paid for. Kthnxpeace.

Nope, but it takes time to do it. And then you have to be able to legally do something. Many times these people are in foreign countries.

I'm not convinced they tried as hard as their attack on Sony. Seems to me its a fanboy trying to make a point.

I asked this earlier, what can Sony do to stop these attacks? If Microsoft can prevent them, what are they doing differently from Sony?

Microsoft has thousands of servers all over the world because they use them for things beyond Xbox Live. Knock one off and they can re-route the traffic elsewhere with just minor hiccups.

This is not practical for the majority of corporations.

I refuse to believe that Sony only has one data-center world-wide though just because someone said so on Twitter.

Microsoft has Azure, they have tons of more servers compared to Sony. And they need to protect Azure bettter as it contains some governmental cloud services as well.

Exactly. If these DDoS attacks keep up, Sony may always have issues with them. There aren't enough PS+ dollars to build to Microsoft's capacity. Sony would likely go down flaming immediately if they threw that much cash at it.

I also agree that they have to have more than one center, but Azure is massive and can reroute around it.

Microsoft offers a lot of online services, they need a strong infrastructure. Sony would be unnecessarily wasting money if they spend so much for PSN. The service is fine, these guys need to stop messing with it.

There is no way to protect from DDoS apart from having enough servers to keep the traffic open through some other routes.

Ok, this is getting annoying. What point are they trying to make or whats the deal? Destiny is just around the corner as well. If this shit happens during Destiny launch, shit hits the fan.

It's well known that MS has thousands of servers in many regions. They are well equipped to handle this, as they are not just supporting Live, but all businesses who use Azure or Office 365. This is their real bread and butter and I'm sure they put billions into making sure people can't do much harm.

Would this imply that Sony is using Prolexic = Akamai's service.
Looks like it.

This almost seems to be guaranteed now of they still haven't gotten caught yet.

Well, can't say I'm surprised that this has happened...again.

Currently fighting with them over some unauthorized purchases on my account.

Their CS has been nothing but unhelpful, arrogant, condescending and just down right rude.

People in glass houses Sony, people in glass houses.

Out of interest, is there anything that can be done if the perpetrators are beyond the jurisdiction of the countries the service is relevant for? And that's if their location is even ever established; they may be performing a relatively simple process, but they can't be stupid enough to be sat on their home PC, tabbing to Minecraft and eating cookies their mum made whilst laughing the reactions. With my knowledge of these things, which is limited, I'd imagine it's very hard to trace the source?

I wonder if anyone has ever been extradited for a DDoS attack?

Agreed, but at the end of the day, on one system you can play online, and on another, you can't.

Of course this is way too early. But it is now the second day they are doing this. What happens when it moves to week 2?

Really, whats stopping them from continuing to do this indefinitely? They are trying to do it to xbox, and are not getting much success. Even I have a threshold. If I can't play my games online, I'll move to other platforms.

I can see the scenario when Destiny releases, and they just focus all their effort on PS4 and destroying the network. They clearly have that capability and Sony has no defense against it.

It sucks for sure, and I wish these guys were not getting the attention that they are getting (GAF is really not doing us any favours).

They went straight into the terrorist watchlist with that bomb threat, thus making themselves international criminals. They're going to get caught and dealt with. It's just a matter of time before the cyber teams can track them down. They're idiots like most of these kiddies are as they're too vocal about their presence. Every time they speak, they leave more traces.

This was the last bigger case that went down: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LulzSec

Yep, exactly. Hopefully sooner than later though.

Yeah, I'm sure Sony is using the money for a bottle of coke and a bag of chips.
I'm not saying they can magically make it 100% effective, but I see nothing wrong with people complaining about it especially when Steam and XBL hardly ever go down for extended periods of time.

There better damn well be a way to protect from DDoS, or we as online gamers and users of other services are at the mercy of a bunch of idiots who have all the time in the world to continue these kinds of stupid attacks.

once they trace him (her/them/it) down; if outside the US there will be procedures they have to follow, paperwork to get agreed etc etc.

Once all is in place though, well there ass won't touch the ground.

I just hope one of the busters is a gamer and video's the whole thing and sticks it on YT for all to SEE!

Teach the Fucktards a lesson and everyone else dicking about.

This is frustrating beyond all measure. I am sitting at home today, off of work, and can't do *anything* on my PS4. No Netflix, no online gaming, nothing. At least the first time made the papers, but this is just embarrassing for Sony to have it happen again within 48 hours.

Dude, these are DDoS attacks, no information has been compromised, if people are making unauthorized purchases on your account that's a personal issue. -_-
