Games you remember, names you don't

First time using this thread, let's see if it's efficient.

*These are all base on foggy memories, I'll try my best*

A game on SNES, arcade-ish, à la Donkey Kong where you just have multiple levels where you have to reach point A to B.

I think it's featuring some kind of baby, a bald one. There was a time limit at each stage. The thing I remember the most is that sometimes (IIRC it's when the time is almost up) a monkey shows up to piss you off and he had a stressful music that came with it.

IIRC, the first levels are beach-themed, too.

I think I searched for this one quite a bit back then but ended up with nothing. Searched for a bit again with no success, sorry.

That's correct, you did try and help me out on that first attempt I made. Thank you.

Wish I could draw the main character as to give people a better visual idea of the game.

I only have a vague memory of it being an arena/amphitheater based asian-medieval fantasy beat em up...there may have been rideable tigers or beasts.

I'm pretty sure the point of view was raised or slightly above the arena & the warriors were still visible side-on (ie it wasn't in a top-down style like Gauntlet or a 2D shooter)

There were more than two characters on screen at a time IIRC so it wasn't a one-on-one fighter.

I wish that I could remember more :/ My strongest memory is the red/black game over screen with the blade on a pendulum swinging down as the insert credits timer counted down.

When you mentioned the game over screen i instantly thought of Tecmo Knight for some reason.
By the same company that made Shadow Warrior / Ninja Gaiden arcade, so it would seem like a good match for the gory continue screen. It's also a rather gory game, but i checked and it doesn't seem to be that one, although it would match your description too.
I also remember something like the game over screen you mentioned, wasn't able to find anything so far

Could it be irem's blade master ? can't find pics of the game over screen

An NES game where you are a robot dude running and then you jump and can turn into a jet. It had an anime Gundam transformers feel to it. Have no idea what it was called, but I played the first level over and over as a child.

Didn't want to make a new thread for this, but I figure this might be the best place to get some answers. My friend got this at flee market, and it seems to be from an EA video game from around 2001. Can anyone tell me what game (If it is a game) this thing is from?

The reason I assume it's from a game is that it has "Electronic Arts 2001" on its foot. I haven't made any headway with figuring out what it's from. I've checked most of EA's game from the preceding couple of years and nothing. He's holding some sort of staff wtith a tea-pot on it, and he's in a straight jacket... I have no idea what this thing could be.

Looks like the Mad Hatter from American McGee's Alice.

I think it was a lucasarts game, but I could be wrong.

I remember it as a 3d rpg, or adventure game, and it was from a first-person perspective I think, in the 90's, on PC. I remember this scene where you walked by a farm or something, and you talk to this guy, and you could attack and kill him, even though I don't think you were really supposed to. I think I remember swords being a part of the game. I don't know if it was a farm so much as a log cabin, with maybe a wood like next to it.

I think of this game on ocassion, and I can never remember it.

There was more to the game, but I'm not sure of the details.

You sir are a legend.

Interestingly, the game over screen is in the same style and has the same sound effects but isn't the one I can remember.

wooo, glad i could help.
Still doesn't solve the game over screen mistery though. That threw me off because i DO remember something like what you described, but unless the game has different continue screens for different characters, that's not it.
But it's the game you were looking for, so it's good

It was Wild Fang / Tecmo Knight

Well I'm glad the game's been found. It really is weird about the pendulum detail, I even used cheats to advance through the levels and die on each one, both with player 1 and player 2 but the continue animation is always the same. It makes sense that it's also a Tecmo game (like Ninja Gaiden), those guys loved their blood and guts. :)

I was hoping for this thread to come up. I've been trying to remember the name of an old sci-fi top-down shooter with a health bar a la DOOM. I think the name started with R or F... can't remember. It came bundled with Turok for PC when I got it. It's been forever bugging me :(

Ok. PC game. FPS. For some reason I have the impression that it was an indie developer who made it. Playing as a hunter. I think you had to fill a vat with blood before the hunting season was over. So you sneak around a small map and tried to snipe deer in the first level. Another level you had to shoot a lot of bunnies I think. In a later level you got a chaingun against bears.

Off the top of my head - Take No Prisoners, Mageslayer, Machine Hunter.

EDIT:

Also try Phobia II and Scud.

Nah. I remember it being a 3D semi-top down game with a status bar akin to DOOM, except the characters face eventually turned into a skull the more damage you took.

Words that keep coming to mind are Forsaken or Rage (but that can't be lol)

Oh, hold on, you're probably thinking of Millennium Soldier: Expendable. Rage Software was the developer. :)

EDIT: Interestingly enough, I remember someone else here mistaking the same developer name (Rage) for the video game title, I think it was Incoming.

i remember playing some side scrolling shooter game for the genesis...it had a cartoony look to it.

at first i thought it was twinbee but i guess that never came out for the system.

help?

Thinking of an SNES game that was in full polygonal 3D, you were basically a hovercraft type ship in a very basic grid maze, shooting other ships like yours.

Really super basic game, but I remember there was a multiplayer mode and my friend and I once ignored the game objectives in lieu of making our own weird narrative story by exploiting the enemy AI etc.. anyway...

the "art style" if you could call it that, was very dark and TRON-esque.

Probably Spectre?

Does anybody remember this Zelda like game on PS2 that I believe was released towards the end of the 6th gen where you could switch off between a purple elf mage girl and a anthropomorphic dog warrior dude? I seem to recall playing the demo of this game coming from the official PS mag. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please lemme know. I think the cover of the game was purple.

Not sure how many of those details you feel really confident about but if you stretch most the details is there a chance you're thinking of Primal?

Edit: Nevermind. Looks like Eso76 has the right one. And in this case I don't really mind that I have no familiarity with that game.

Pretty sure this is the game you're thinking of

Sooo, my memory of this one is very cloudy...
I think it was some sort of Adventure game in a fantasy setting. The thing that I still remember best is that the final boss was a book and I think you had to hit it with something in a pretty short timelimit.

I am also pretty sure it was a PC exclusive game.

I can't for the life of me remember the name of that game and google gives me nothing...

Should be easy.

Late ps2 era I believe. You are a girl (journalist), you have to take lots of pictures. Kind of a budget title, but very polished and well recieved.

I'm trying to come up with the name of a SNES game. Sort of top down shooter/brawler. Visually and in game design it looked a lot like Mystical Ninja / Goemon. Most likely Japanese.

But I remember it being more colorful. You could play it 2P and I think one of them could also be an animal.

Pocky & Rocky / Kikikaikai?

PC or DOS game where it's like an endless runner except it's not endless and had predetermined stages. Cool music. You are a space ship that jumps.

Wow heh that was the first time I really couldn't remember the name of a game even with searching, and you did it in a few seconds.

Slightly thrown at first because I think of Pocky & Rocky as closer to a shmup than a brawler, but 2P-as-animal got me back on the right track.

PC game ca. 2000 with pre-rendered backgrounds and perspective a la Resident Evil. Bloody, dark fantasy setting. European developer, maybe? The box had a rendering of a scantily clad, large-breasted woman on it, I think. If you died, there was a cgi movie with some demons headbanging to metal music.

Perhaps Blood & Lace: A Gothic Novel?

Do you guys remember at least a rough time frame when you played the games? I've looked for these two games for a bit but didn't find anything.

There was more to the game, but I'm not sure of the details.

It sounds like a pretty common scenario in RPGs, killing defenseless farmers etc. Any other details you remember? Were the characters also full 3D or were they 2D sprites?

This is one I stumbled onto last year and I already forgot the name. I thought there was a Hardcore Gaming 101 write up on it but I couldn't find it.

The game is basically a 2 player co-op boss rush. Arcade only, never ported. Plays like a fighting game with up to jump, back to block, and motions for specials. 3 selectable characters.

No, that's not it from the few pictures I could find on Google. The one I mean has a much more outlandish fantasy setting.

Edit for the new page:

Metamoqester?
