Games you remember, names you don't

Any hints on the poadcast name, platform, date, etc? It is vague enough to be one of the hundreds of scary maze flash games that throw up a spooky image and loud noise when you get close to the end.

Edit: Could it be one of the many Sanity Effects from Eternal Darkness?

I've never played it, but that makes me think of
Pathologic, a game RPS did an in depth write up for a while back

It was something like a strategy game.

You played as the captain of a submarine and you could do stuff like look through the periscope to find ships to attack. Also, you were in this war room of the sub where you could check where you were on a map and things of that sort.

It was all first-person/adventure game POV.

At first I thought it was Hunt for Red October, but that's an action game and I don't remember this game having those sequences.

Sounds like it could be Solaris 1.0.4. I remember it being a pretty good shmup.

It was some CD with like 30-50 games on it, and it had this one game. 8-bit looking game you could play as an archer, warrior, or mage. When you died, it showed some creepy petrified-looking skull.

Also, it had games (that I can remember) like: Atlantis, 3D Crackenoid (breakout clone), Bugz (invaders clone), etc.

The weird thing is, I can't find any record this game disk existed on the Internet, or any of the games whose titles I remember.

In 1987 my father sold the C64 to buy an Amiga 1000, so I never had the chance to return to the game, very annoying. And it must be a relatively unknown game, cause I've been going thru C64 space games on mobygames and whatnot and still not found it after years of searching.

A roommate of mine in the late 90's use to play a game where you would set traps for monsters/vampires? I remember spikes in the floor and cages.

Is that Cryo's Atlantis? If so, the game might be from the mid 90's, right? From the 8-bit graphics comment I gather it was 2D? What was the genre, a sidescrolling beat'em up like Golden Axe (you can walk up and down the floor) or maybe more similar to Altered Beast, a platformer, an RPG etc? What was the perspective, sidescrolling, isometric, top view, first person?

Don't think so, no. Already checked out The Playroom & Electric Crayon looks more like a colouring book type thing. This was definetly a game in it's own right.

Oh I'd say we had a lot of UK stuff here around that time. I remember our school computer room being chock full of Microbees. The presence of Granny's Garden on our Apple II's also led me down the British path. Unfortunately, clicking through lists of BBC Micro and Apple IIe games didn't ring any bells. I just wish I could remember exactly what the model computer was that we hadd in our actual classroom- I'm just assuming it was either the Apple or at least a contemporary of those other computers.

Thanks for the Sherston name, you've at least given me another rock to look under :P. For some reason the description for 'The Wizard's Revenge' is jumping out at me a little. But Google is not being forthcoming with any pictures.

The problem with Sherston is that they're still very much a contemporary business and so much of their website is focussed on what they have to offer *now* without dwelling on their history. Indeed, as a whole the UK educational software scene of the time isn't particularly well-documented beyond the likes of Granny's Garden; there's also 4Mation (Flowers of Crystal), HUMMEC (The aforementioned Dread Dragon Droom), Anita Straker's adventures...

... if I had more time, I'd smell a project coming on. I've got the resources, at least.
 
This one's kind of weird, and not entirely related to the topic, but just hear me out: there's a user here on GAF who has/had an icon with a human male with gray hair (or may have been bald, my memory is fuzzy), white skin, and I think an orange shirt. The art was 2D and in a sort of painterly style. I believe the character had a rather long face. I want to use the icon as an art reference since I remember liking it quite a bit but forgetting to save it. Again, I apologize for only slightly being related to the topic, but I hope someone can help out! Thanks!

A bit of a stretch based on your description but perhaps check out art for Bastion? Is that similar in style to what you're thinking of?

a game like 12 years ago,it was with a red and a blue boat ( one a hovecraft and another one kinda looked like a hovercraft ) there was a map with ice mountains and you could just go "offroad" with the boats into nothing but wasteland
 
Okay, so this one falls to the earliest video game memory I have. The system was Atari 2600 (or similar one joystick one button system, but I swear it was the 2600) and I remember playing what was effectively a hot doggin' event. You ski down the hill, hit the jump, and then perform tricks for as many points as you can. I don't remember if it was an event of many in the game or if that was the sole purpose of the game. I've always thought it was called "Hot Doggin'," but no searches could yield any game called that. Any help, my fellow GAFfers, would be greatly appreciated!

OK, I need help with one more: is a NES racing game, run race a motorcycle across the US. I remember the Statue of Liberty saluting you when you got to New York.

Any idea?
 
Can't remember the name of a NES game where you were a little space ship. I remember the spaceship being red and it sorta looking like a lunar lander. The game had gravity physics I think so you had to constantly keep pressing A or B to stay flying. You fought space bugs and such.

I got it as a gift way back when and been trying to remember the name of it since.

It would be awesome if someone could suggest it.

How about Golvellius. You wear blue in that, but you still have sword and it isn't really an rpg.

Edit: It has to be Spellcaster, but I'm not sure I would call that an RPG either.

Posted last year, still couldn't get a name for:
90's PC game for kids, top-view puzzle/maze kind of deal.
Main character was a blue little guy. He wore a hood as well.
Edit: Maybe he was red and the hood blue IDK

It's been 10+ years since I last played this game and I can't quite get the details in my head.
I do remember collecting flowers (maybe sunflowers), some keys to unlock doors inside the levels and also carnivorous plants being a hazard. Poisonous mushrooms are also a possibility, but I can't be sure about those.

It wasn't a great hit game or anything but I do have some nice memories playing it. Any help finding it again?

ALSO: I used to play it on a Windows 95 probably, I remember playing Dangerous Dave in that same age if that serves of any help.
I've tried to locate any similar looking games on dosgamesarchive but couldn't see anything useful.

Well, it depends on quite what you mean by 'plays itself'. You *could* mean Candy Box or Cookie Clicker or the like, where the basic resource generation is automated but you do make choices and simple interactions. You could mean Progress Quest, which I generally associate with being a download product but does exist in a browser form. Buried in the links are a bunch of "Related Technologies" too.

I've been meaning to bring this up in one of these threads for years now. I don't know why I didn't. Sooo...yeah. I am confident, however, that no one will be able to guess the name of this game from my shitty description...

I played it in the 1990s.
I played it in the UK.
I played it on a keyboard (with a mouse, maybe) plugged into a computer running MS-DOS/Windows 95.
A 2D point and click/direct movement puzzle/adventure game (think Full Throttle-ish, Broken Sword-ish). Maybe?
There were text boxes/dialogue choice. I think.
You could walk around as a bipedal mech, not much bigger than a human. But I want to say it kind of resembled ED-209.
I remember red brick walls, maybe rain, dirty streets. Think a Blade Runner-ish, RoboCop-ish setting. Maybe.
You talked to pedestrians whilst walking the streets, I think.

Unfortunately not. Can't even remember any details about it but the swinging pendulum and the red screen seem extremely familiar to me.

You mentioned it had a medieval setting, how so? Do you remember something about the player character or the setting that leads you to believe it has a medieval/fantasy setting?

Not sure if I asked before but do you remember any other details about this game? The genre, colors, music/sound, point of view, maybe something specific about the arcade cabinet itself, any detail might help.
