Nintendo learned nothing from the wii and wiiu debacle.
This is just going to add to brand confusion.
People won't understand this is a new console and it will cannibalize sales.
First, graphics aren't everything, and second, if you can't stick with the 3DS graphics for another couple of years go buy a Vita and see how that works out.
Coming out on October 11 in Japan, 2015 in Europe (and probably NA).
It's not a new console. That's the point.
Simple. Just use the system transfer option.

There are games you can play on it and not the 'old' version.

Can't wait for 3DS with Retina Display.
Nice shitpost. Maybe try actually saying something about what you think on topic at hand rather than just insulting my view?the idiocy of this post was fully expected.
I bought them the same month and my vita has 20+ times more hours put into it soooo....
Either Gamestop has some VERY trusting policies, or the person that authorised that should have been fired on the spot. Why on earth would any store let you walk out with two systems on the promise that you'll return one of them? It's practically inviting theft.
I'll definitely be picking one of these up, but the fact that the face plates are seemingly only for the smaller version is a real downer.
I would totally opt for the XL otherwise, but the plates are so tempting. D:

3ds screen quality, resolution, and GPU power are all long in the tooth. I certainly don't think it's fine to stick with that in 2015.
Is not. DSi was still a DS at a retail level (in 99% of games), this new portable is not.
Is like saying the 32X was a revision. Whatever the small library it had, it wasn't.
Fuck. I wonder if the New 3DS will get SNES/ GBA VC?
It's not a new console. That's the point.
Ok, sorry... I shouldn't have started a new thread but it didn't seem people fully realized what just happened.
- it has new controls
- it is more powerful to the point that it will play more powerful games, which cannot be played on the predecessor hardware
Those are the very definitions of a new platform.
So I guess I didn't fully realize that it isn't simply called "3DS" it is actually called "New 3DS", like how there was a "DS" and "DSi" which was also a NEW platform, btw folks, because it had its own games that were not playable on original DS.
Yes, this is a new platform. Plain and simple.
If you folks feel that customers can handle "New 3DS" and understand what that means, and they will understand the packaging on games and know the difference between "3DS" and "New 3DS"... ok then. lol
If a new 3DS model came out that was simply a different form factor but had the same controls and power, you know how I would refer to it? "A new 3DS".
They should have called this thing 3DSi perhaps... or something completely new. 3DS-2 perhaps?
There was customer confusion with "3DS"... and even more with "WiiU"... and now people don't think there will be massive confusion with "New 3DS"??
Is that the same price that the current ones are selling at in Japan?
Well crap, now I need one of those, obviously.
Maybe is gets bundled with MH4U, that'd be nice.
It's basically what DSi was to theo riginal DS, right?
Um, what dafuq are you smoking? While it may not be quite as convenient as a proper cloud based system, the 3DS's system transfer system is near flawless for what it is.

It's not a new console. That's the point. It's a DS-I a stop gap basically.
But it has the ability to play some games that the previous generation of the same line can't?
I can see this being a bit of a mine field.
Kid - Mum, can you get me Xenoblade for 3DS for my birthday?
Mum - sure
Kid - Mum it doesn't work on my 3DS.
I'd say all of this forum are exempt from that example, but I'll go out and say most Nintendo customer's are not. Wii & Wii U shows that. I was in a GAME shop the other day just browsing and I listened to a guy sell a Wii U to a couple looking for a family console and he had to say around 4 times that this is a brand new machine, not an attachment.
Let me know how the figures work out by 2016.
Like the DSi. Would you call that a new console? It's a revision.
Only stupid people will be confused. And it is not a new platform. The new 3DS is to the 3DS as the DSi was to the DS or the GBC was to the Gameboy.
How do you know the New 3DS won't share 99% the games? Just because they said Xenoblade port is an exclusive to entice people to buy the system?
Yes it is. And DSi was just as much of a "new console" as this is...
