Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

Wow hasn't even been a year since I bought my 3ds - not sure if it's worth getting even if it does have some exclusive software....

I feel like Nintendo wants me to go back to the smaller 3DS after they basically threw it under the bus in order to promote the XL. I looooove my XL but those faceplates look really nice and I don't like those metallic colours.

I'm a little confused. Does the New 3DS (the smaller of the two) have the same sized screen as the OG 3DS? If so, that makes it infinitely less appealing to me than the larger version.

Stupid how I have to get rid of my OG 3DS instead of having the right to have both with all my content on it.

Perhaps Nintendo will finally do a universal account system with the Nintendo IDs at least up to 3 devices.

So, a new processor to give the games some extra pep, and hopefully finally allow proper GBA, SNES, and DS emulation for the store. Better 3d to take advantage of better tech out now. Extra buttons and a stick to finally get rid of the extra grippy thing. NFC to open up that revenue stream on portables.

Yup, it's the 3ds equivalent of the DSi. Expecting a true successor system in late 2016- early 2017.

The screen size is slightly larger. (OG 3DS to New 3DS). and the dimenaions.

Some software doesn't work on iPad 2/iPad mini (non retina). The iPad mini is still being sold, but its HW is very old. Here is one example features on NeoGAF.

My first gen iPod touch lacked some features and developers would lock apps out of it by needing a microphone. That was very late in its life and iPhone OS 4 was never made available for it which made it easy to lock apps out of the poor old ARM11 chip :P
It is fairly straight forward when you get a simple "this app is not compatible" because everything is online.

I believe Cosmo Clock was being sarcastic... or at least I want to believe that. I honestly have no idea.

Holy crap that C-stick looks AWFUL. So, this is neither a new console nor simply a new model? Also, releasing a hardware revision and making a game (or games) which doesn't run on the old hardware mid-gen? ON A GREAT SELLING DEVICE?

Why?

Well yeah exactly. Since everything is digital you can't buy a game only top find out it doesn't work on the hardware after taking it home.

You know, I've been holding out on this final revision since the XL came out (I never liked the look of it) and now that it's here, I have to say that I'm pretty underwhelmed.

-Battery power is barely better.
-Screens appear to be the exact same res and quality, which was the biggest problem with the device
-The industrial design hasn't improved / changed
-The devices haven't gotten any smaller or lighter, the 3DS has actually gotten bigger
-The nub is pretty useless looking (not that I wanted a second stick anyway)
-The CPU increase appears to be small, yet still fragments the market
-Old games don't benefit from the spec bump

It's just a really underwhelming revision. I'll still be there day 1 though. Ever since I dropped my OG 3DS in a bag of diet coke the battery has been wonky. Can't wait to get a new one.

I searched in the thread and saw a couple people have the same question I do:

So they're clearly going to have the New 3DS do Wii U Gamepad functionality, right? All the buttons/functions are there now, correct?

Remove the Gamepad from the Wii U and exchange it with this/sell the Wii U standalone for a much lower price, and you've got a potential monster

Hmm I love my 3DS XL. But I'm wondering if I should just go back to the smaller version. I'm also torn on which color. The nostalgia in me REALLY wants them famicom colors.

No.

Mannnnn are you serious???? Ive been waiting forever for a 3ds model that had a 2nd stick and just accepted that nintendo wouldnt do it so I bought an xl when I got pokemon, and then they announce this?! 1/10 >:( ... Im going to buy it though, this is the 3ds model I wanted since day 1.

Because you're a sucker like the rest of us who foolishly thought Nintendo would actually support a system rather than try and force everyone to upgrade to a marginally better system by putting exclusive content on said marginally better system.
Didn't that recent survey just say most Nintendo gamers are adults?

That's a very interesting idea but I don't see them doing it just yet. Certain games may make specific use of such a feature though, maybe even amiibo the games.

1.2x larger.
4.2/3.6

First part is accurate, second part is not.
New screen is ~20% larger in area.
Old screen was 3.5 inches diagonal, New is 3.88 inches diagonal.
New screen is approx. 10% wider and 10% taller than old screen (~1.10 x ~1.10 = ~1.20)

I am honestly just so dumbfounded about this decision. xenoblade for NEW 3ds. Do I have to buy a new 3ds? Or THE NEW 3ds. This idea should've been scrapped for the actual next iteration of their handheld. This will confuse casuals once again like them thinking the wii u was a wii add on.

I have been holding out on an XL because there are too many colors/patterns I want so this works out nicely for me to upgrade my OG Black 3DS with. I'm also just going to pretend this is a bandaid by Nintendo to allow cross platform VC support (and purchases) and better integrate the two systems in general going forward.
