Nintendo reveals the "New Nintendo 3DS" and "New Nintendo 3DS LL"

They did the same thing with the DS (remember the DSi?). This is nothing new for Nintendo. And frankly I'm guessing they want to keep momentum for the 3DS going for a few more years so they can release both their next handheld and home console at the same time.
I will say is that Nintendo could use some work with their naming conventions. Is New Nintendo 3DS really the best they could come up with?
What a great idea, releasing a new console when they're struggling to get out content to their current two consoles.
Everything is better with colored buttons.

Would have really appreciated a higher resolution screen. I love my 3DS but the resolution is just, so, so bad. Any improvement would have been better. No way I'm getting this any time soon, though.
No idea why they don't just add a second circle pad to the right side of the New 3DS instead of that nub. Man, Nintendo, you always fuck up these little things. Come on Nintendo.

Looks like Nintendo finally found a solution for the 3D angle problem. Hope the 3D works ass well ass advertised !! If this goes well I cant see why Nintendo wouldn't use 3D in there next handhelds ass well.
^ Yeah, I hope Nintendo continues with 3D as well for their next-gen hybrid system. After playing the 3DS a ton, the Wii U Gamepad screen felt like a downgrade, especially when playing games like SM3DW and MK8 which have direct analogues to the 3DS games.
What would a higher screen resolution do? The games aren't going to be magically rendered at a higher resolution; so a higher resolution screen will make it look way worse, or if they go with four times as many pixels, identical at best.

That omen simply did not come to pass with the DSi. There is no predicting Nintendo's future plans for the New 3DS, but I assure you that they are not as big as you're suggesting. They have an actual successor to plan and develop for.
Woaahh, just made it to work and I'm catching up with everything announced at the Direct. I tought they wouldn't announce any big megatons there considering it was only for Japan but OMFGGGG! Finally a damn 2nd stick implemented and the actual design looks very cool! But... This was only confirmed for Japan so, what if Nintendo doesn't bother to release it on the west? The 2DS was never released in Japan so this could be the case here... Hope I'm wrong because I want the new XL!

Now that I think of it, did that rumor about Nintendo porting GC/Wii games in 2015 specifically mention they'd be ported to Wii U?

But the issue here is that we don't know how far along these consoles are. Should we upgrade or not? We can't predict how many years are left in the making for 3DS, but we're already seeing titles on the eShop that are going to be restricted to the "new" 3DS.
If this is going to the because, why doesn't Nintendo go full-hog and save the announcement of a new portable for a few more years? (I know, I know, it's because they can gouge us for more cash now - but still.)

How else would you fit a second joystick on the 3DS without making it significantly wider or shrinking/moving the buttons to an uncomfortable position?
There wasn't enough space inside the OG 3DS for a second slider due to the way they engineered the system. I'm guessing not much on the inside has changed.

I'd like to see how many devs will restrict their game to the new 3DS. Cutting out more than 30 mio. users? Might as well just release to the Vita

Games that are being devolved for New 3DS exclusively could be rendered at a higher resolution. Game for both could change resolution depending on the system. Kinda like how some games on the Gameboy would appear in colour on the Gameboy colour, but black and white on the original Gameboy. The resolution doesn't have to be that much better, anyway.

Maybe the Vita will have something to gain from having another system a bit closer to it in power and with two sticks.. New 3DS/Vita multiplats?
If you go back to the Iwata Asks for the 3DS hardware, they stress how hard it was to fit all the components in such a small volume. It's repeated multiple times.

I personally hope that there is a CPP for this device, if only for grip purposes.
They are still not supporting 64GB cards.
How is that at all surprising? Changing the resolution means updating the GPU and scaling every single game that's not running at the new resolution (which will look pretty bad if it's not a power of 2 improvement). I don't see that happening for a DSi-style mid-generation upgrade.
All of these news articles are claiming a 2015 release in the west, but I'm still clinging onto a shred of hope that I'll be able to get my hands on one before the year ends :'(
(Also, NOA would REALLY be missing a golden opportunity by skipping out on these for the holiday season!)
