Why.
Just release the successor instead of making minor improvements to the system. I don't see the point, they've already revised the hardware.
What a great idea, releasing a new console when they're struggling to get out content to their current two consoles.Why.

looks like something I'd want to buy, except for the colored buttons, they just look way out of place.
It's like they put them there to force me to buy the XL version D:

Not at work at the moment, but a Google Image Search lead me to this version:Can you link me to that wallpaper, I'd like that myself please
Yup.
Would have really appreciated a higher resolution screen. I love my 3DS but the resolution is just, so, so bad. Any improvement would have been better. No way I'm getting this any time soon, though.
If it were simply a redesign without a mCPU boost that would be beautiful. But in securing exclusive new games, it truly is unfair to anyone with a current 3DS system. Had they donesomething along the lines of the N64 Expansion Pack, which was a very inexpensive upgrade, this would be much less of an issue. Instead, they are forcing consumers to buy all new (same, but upgraded) hardware in order to play upcoming big games (rest assured, there will be plenty more down the line).
I always thought that I'd get a 3DS one day, but I simply cannot support this type of business philosophy. Not to mention the "New 3DS" name, which is even more confusing than Wii U was. To me, this console announcement is very bad news.
The "New 3DS" name is pretty stupid. It'll probably be a Wii U naming fiasco all over again.

Will this thing play original 3ds games?
Yes.
My first thought on seeing this...
Please mean SNES games, please mean SNES games, please mean SNES games, please mean SNES games, please mean SNES games, please mean SNES games
That omen simply did not come to pass with the DSi. There is no predicting Nintendo's future plans for the New 3DS, but I assure you that they are not as big as you're suggesting. They have an actual successor to plan and develop for.
Fuck guys, GameStop is offering 75 USD for the original 3DS. Should I go for it? Prices are sure to plummet, and Bestbuy is 40 and Target is 50. Anything better than 75?
I really want a New Nintendo 3DS when it comes out (fuck the New Nintendo 3DS XL).

I suppose you could use Photoshop to darken it.
Wonder why the second joystick is so small. I hope it's actually practical. Anyways I'm so buying this.
Looks great! Although it boggles my mind that they couldn't move the buttons down a few mms and make the second stick a little bigger.
I'm preeeeeetty sure the store throws up a message when you try to download an app incompatible with your device.*Looks over at the Bioshock 1 iOS port thread...
Are you sure?
What would a higher screen resolution do? The games aren't going to be magically rendered at a higher resolution; so a higher resolution screen will make it look way worse, or if they go with four times as many pixels, identical at best.
There wasn't enough space inside the OG 3DS for a second slider due to the way they engineered the system. I'm guessing not much on the inside has changed.
I'd like to see how many devs will restrict their game to the new 3DS. Cutting out more than 30 mio. users? Might as well just release to the Vita.please
If you go back to the Iwata Asks for the 3DS hardware, they stress how hard it was to fit all the components in such a small volume. It's repeated multiple times.Even just a few millimeters? I feel like adding 2-3 to the radius would make a big difference.
Damn I just noticed they're switching to MicroSD cards now.
I will have to transfer over my 64GB card.
How is that at all surprising? Changing the resolution means updating the GPU and scaling every single game that's not running at the new resolution (which will look pretty bad if it's not a power of 2 improvement). I don't see that happening for a DSi-style mid-generation upgrade.I seriously can't believe they didn't go for a new higher resolution screen.
The 3DS XL looks utterly disgusting at it's current resolution...
Is this or is this not the next new handheld generation?
