Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread 14: Snake... had a hard life

It's been a while since I've played Brawl, but I can't remember hating too many stages. Then again my friends and I did stick to a limited selection a good chunk of which were Melee stages. As long as there are a decent number of stages I'll like I'm not too fussed about the selection. (Then again I'm not buying the 3ds version so that leaked stage list doesn't effect me too hard.

My only disappointment when it comes to stages is the poor representation of Metroid.
A fellow junior too. Damn..

Whats your avatar from? I feel like I recognize it, but I can't quite place it.

No fountain of dreams. Why green greens sakurai? WHY?!
Fountain of Dreams is a nice looking stage, but layout wise it doesn't add enough for it to be completely missed by me. I also prefer Kirby's 64 Whispy Woods to Melee's simply because it is more compact and doesn't have to dropping blocks.

Am I the only one content with the 3DS stages?

I really like Reset Bomb Forest, Spirit Train etc. etc.
I like the 3DS' new stages which is why I want more. ;P

Some of the worst Smash stages ever, bar none. I'd nominate Spear Pillar, but that one is both awful and the greatest stages ever.
Sad thing is I wanted a stage based on this so I was really happy when it was revealed. I like it because of that, but it is a stage idea that sounded better in my head

Elektroplankton gets my vote as the worst.
Numerous platforms that change angle due to hits and feel awkward to play on the entire time.

No thanks.

Little Mac : Decided that he needs really poor recovery and little to no air ability to be ground only character.
This is actually my biggest problem with him. I get the idea that a boxer should be weaker on the air because of their inability to use their feet to weight shift, but a swing should't be that weak. Even ignoring that, I think Mac is just too extreme on both sides for my tastes.

I'll just wait until I get my hands on him, but so far I'm not really liking the direction they're going with him.

edit: apparently this website is censored or something? should I not be posting an image from it?

If it's banned, which it is, then no you shouldn't be posting an image from it.

Nintendo has never given the numbers for NA Xenoblade sales but they said they were happy with the sales (or something simliar). Given how poorly it sold in Japan, it's not a leap to assume it sold better in NA especially considering the word-of-mouth hype.

I know ******** isn't the most reliable site in the world, but it's usually good for getting a rough estimate at least, and:

that site is as banned as the 3D Land stage, don't post info from there

(P.S. Xenoblade Japanese sales are about ~190k, so you know they're BSing)

Rumble Falls is like them taking a subspace emissary jungle stage or something from the stage builder and trying to pass it off as an actual DK stage, it's even got the random ladders, switches and lift platforms you'd expect to see in either of those modes and none of the platforming elements actually seen in Jungle beat like the plants, springy vines, helper monkeys or Bubble Plants.
So it barely represents its source material outside of being a generic jungle waterfall until you get the sprawling vines vaguely reminiscent of Jungle Beat's Sky Garden, there's some plane that turns up that might be a nod to Funky's Flights or something (so suddenly it's DKC and not Jungle Beat) but even then it ain't a barrel plane or anything.
Even DK's own final smash is hindered further on his own stage since it scrolls, it's bad enough that it's a poor stage to Brawl on but its incredibly half arsed representation to the series and game itself is that extra touch that makes it truly suck.

Then 75M went and played it too close to the source, darn does DK suffer from the shitty end of the stage stick in Smash, Jungle Japes yet again is incredibly lame but hey it at least has Cranky's Cabin I guess.

Sorry, didn't realize people couldn't post things from it. I know that site is unreliable but I can't find numbers anywhere else, just a lot of discussion about Xenoblade doing better internationally than in Japan itself.

I wish the game industry had better sales tracking.

A bit? Counter is one of his most appropriate moves. The Punch-Out games are literally all about dodging and then countering.
Even ignoring PO for a second, countering is a fundamental technique in boxing. It's really one of the easiest and most appropriate moves to give to a boxer.

ICs also got pretty screwed over in stages.

If Summit at least had grabbable edges and no slipperly floors (I know it's an ice stage, but it doesn't make it not annoying), I would've liked it a lot more. The music is damn great too, how it changes when the stage goes through each phase.

I really wanted to like the summit, neat concept, poor execution, no idea what they were thinking with the combo of increased slippage, edges you can't grab and awkward platform layout.

Electroplankton is better than a lot of stages in Brawl by the simple virtue of it not having a single stage hazard.

It is also worse than most stages in Brawl by the virtue of not having a single song attached to it.

The good thing about stages like Mushroomy Kingdom being in the 3DS version is that they probably won't be in the Wii U version. Come on Wii U give me Fountain of Dreams!

The mirror on the water probably makes this stage exceptionally hard to port over. Also the Wii U already has the Halberd, and chances are a series won't get 2 retro levels.

To be fair, Ice Climbers don't have the best source material for a stage. I suppose one could make a static stage based on the final summit (yes I realise Brawl's stage is also technically the summit):

With a modern look. Kind of an inverse of a regular stage with the floating platforms being below the ground.

I'd love to see Fountain of Dreams return, but I wonder if the water reflections are an issue...?

At the very least, I think the song would be a great fit on Halberd.

Clearly why they were cut :P

I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to remake the shader. The Wii U seems to handle reflections pretty well. But yeah with Halberd returning it's not likely for FoD to return :(

I just completely hate moving stages. They're sometimes fun with people when you want to mess around, but for any competitive play it's crazy awful.

The only exception is Poke Floats and Rainbow Cruise.
