Well, I enjoyed the hell out of that game, and don't really care if it was a different thing in the beggining, that happens all the time without it being known. People love Super Mario Bros 2 and that's an even worse case.

But SMB2 is a terrific game with smooth gameplay mechanics that play well. Don't get me wrong, I'm genuinely glad you enjoy the game. But I don't see how SMB2 is a "worse case."

ETA: sorry, that sounded a bit snarky of me; wasn't my intention. :(

For those who think we have the full roster: why is All Star Mode locked in the leak?
Because that one shot was from before all the characters were unlocked. There are multiple save files shown in the video. You can see a point when 11 (?) trophies are collected total, and then another where 250 (?) are collected. Similarly, the All-Star shot is from before all characters were unlocked, and the final roster screen is from after.

I meant a worse case of changing something into other thing doing the minimum, since it only changed the main characters sprites, and the ending image. I love it too.

That was fake, it was confirmed fake days ago, there could be more characters but that is not the proof.

The running theory is that that picture in particular was taken before all the characters (the css we saw) were unlocked.

edit: Oh, wait what? When did this happen? How?

It had very impressive graphics but very slow, stale Zelda-lite gameplay. Also the Shopkeeper had the most grating voice.

That's probably why I liked it at the time. It was the first Zelda-like game I had played through, unless you count like an hour of Link's Awakening DX (got bored**) and OoT up until Kakariko Village, which I had played many times (but never further than that!).

**before you tar and feather me, I was a kid and I didn't really enjoy the Zelda series till I was an adult.

Also, all the leaks come from an ESRB video, it was just a video, so it could have footage from any point in the game, anything saw there could be from any part of the game, jumping back and forth.

For those who think we have the full roster: why is All Star Mode locked in the leak?

I think it's the more "safe" stance to take. Rationally, I don't see why the ESRB video wouldn't include the complete roster, I also think that 49/51 fighters is about what I'd expect the game to include, and I think even if the All-Stars lock picture was true, the picture itself had no good context to establish whether it really was locking the user out of All-Star mode. Relying on the lock pick to believe the roster is bigger requires the leakers having credibility, which they have already lost from me :P

Subjectively, it's also the safest stance because if there are indeed more characters in the final game, it'd be a nice surprise, instead of being sure there are more and then being disappointed when there aren't.

Of course, that's all a mix of circumstantial evidence. There might still be more.

I'm glad you love it, seriously. I just felt like it was one of Rare's weakest finished products. It had a lot of content but was just not fun for me. I was looking forward to it for a very long time and it was slated to come out the day before my birthday for a long time...I was just disappointed with it. But I am glad you got a lot more out of it.

How do you feel like it compares to 3D Zeldas now that you've played more of 'em?

If we don't know when the All Star part of the video was taken, how do we know when the CSS part was taken?

And we think the version of Smash 3DS in the video (which is 3/4 months old at this point) is the final version period? No characters could've possibly been finished between then and now?

I mean come on. Nobody knows for sure if there are more if the only thing anybody has to go by (including the various leakers) is the ESRB video. We just don't.

I think we're referring to the CSS from the Japanese eShop :) (or not?)

Or what if Smash Run enemies don't necessarily preclude playable characters as we thought?

It's possible but we haven't seen any enemies from franchise that don't have playable representatives, not including Ice Climber and Rhythm Heaven because they were planned to have playable representatives.

Maybe you are right and I need to replay it to see all the problems you mention, I'll add it to the list. I still love the idea of Starfox characters exploring other genres tho.

We don't, but I'd like to think they'd show the final roster in the video, and there's the old "over 40 characters" thing again, and the roster shown has 49 characters.

Wait, when? Jeez, ever since the Duck Hunt leak it seems like thousands of "leaks" are born and debunked by the second without me even knowing about them.

I still think that isn't the final roster, but nobody will know until the game's release.

I still don't exactly enjoy Zelda completely.
Well not the 3D games. Loved LttP and LBW though. Hoping to enjoy Wind a Waker HD which I need to play and whatever the newest game will be.

ughhhhh please NOOO

Hehehe I forgot about that guy.

Yes, It'd make sense to send the ESRB a video where they could see at least who are all the characters that will appear in the game, or Nintendo could just sneak in Bayonetta without telling them to avoid a higher rating...

Also, I've been thinking about this from another perspective, and the leaked roster already has enough characters, if you think about it. Sakurai said this game wouldn't have as many newcomers as other entries, because a lot of characters mean exponentially more work, and that he might have to cut some old characters.

If we had not been following this since day one we wouldn't have this feeling of "needing more characters", following that thing Sakurai said I think during E3 2013, this is the final roster.

But I could be wrong, Sakurai is also known for putting too much content into his games, as said by members of his team... I'd LOVE to be wrong, believe me.

EDIT: Oh, and I can't find the confirmation about the allstars pic being fake, it was posted maybe in this topic or in the previous one, and it's in 4chan, and I don't even know how to look for it. But you could take as proof how different it is compared to others pictures of that leak.

What if the CSS leak was the final roster and All Star was locked because Mii fighters haven't been unlocked yet? That would be a kick in the pants.

Yeah, I agree with all of this. It's also too much of a coincidence for me that all of the "missing" characters are either characters everyone thought would be cut from time to time, or were specifically mentioned by Sakurai as hard to work on the 3DS.

I honestly think the only reason there's a "more characters" mentality is because people are desperate for Ice Climber, Chorus Kids, and even long shots like Ridley and Impa. I'm one of those people, but even I know not to expect anything until DLC.

We don't, but I'd like to think they'd show the final roster in the video, and there's the old "over 40 characters" thing again, and the roster shown has 49 characters.

Like I've said, Smash is a game that's always in crunch time development. It's perfectly feasible that Nintendo sent some video of the unfinished game to the ESRB to get some of the more questionable stuff out of the way (dem trophies) and later sent them another video once the game was totally finished.

And to me the "over 40 characters" thing means nothing. I don't think they would just give away the roster total that arbitrarily. Saying "over 40" would be true every if there are 5 more characters plus it would preserve the suprise.

I'm just saying there is evidence for both sides. We don't know for sure.

What if the CSS leak was the final roster and All Star was locked because Mii fighters haven't been unlocked yet? That would be a kick in the pants.

Having to unlock mii fighters would be the biggest kick. A character that's only useable offline, why should I have to work for that.

The roster shown has 51 characters. Those same posters with "over 40 characters" count the Mii characters individually in the lower part where each character receives a number. "Over 40" makes sense since right now there are 40 officially revealed characters.

if there is dlc, will they retroactively be placed into allstars?

Back in thread 6 I made [post=108125610]this snarky comment in response to Ice Climbers being confirmed because of the Smash Run enemies.[/post]
What was a joke back then is turning out to be a reality... :(

did i miss something?

Sometimes it's just better to have lowered expectations than having higher ones that involve, "oh from this we can possibly assume there's 5 more characters!" because the higher your expectations are, the more likely it is you're going to be disappointed in the long run. I've held the position of keeping my expectations in check for this game and I haven't really been disappointed too much (aside from how the game played in a more serious setting back at E3 but it hasn't killed my interest in the game, I have the 3DS version pre-ordered after all).

Expecting there to be a few more characters because there are slots available and "signs" conveniently point towards it is only likely for you to be lead to disappointment. I mean, you're absolutely free to think there are more characters but I'd rather not go into the Japanese release with that thought process and then get disappointed. I'd rather have lowered expectations and get pleasantly surprised or, not get massively disappointed in the end.

Those number posters don't mean anything. Unlike literally every other character, Mii Fighters have the same page on the website. They're one character.

Yay more red rings of death(off waves)....I hated fighting butterfly tron.

You just quoted the poster though...

Unlike literally every other character, Mii Fighters have the same page on the website. They're one character.

Pokemon Trainer also had one page in the Brawl site, unlike other transformation characters, but still counted as three characters.

That's a completely different website. Now ZSS and Sheik have different pages too. The new website pages are the characters.

I'm sure most are aware, but I feel like it beara mentioning that including a character means more than a face on the CSS. Especially for sole series reps like Ice Climbers there's a ton of work integrating them into the game; modelling, dozens of animations, music, stages, items, VO, trophies,
Smash Run
enemies and so on. I feel like, provided you cut a character mid-development and not from the start, there's some sense is finishing that work off post-release and selling them as DLC later, or offering them free if you want.

I believe this is called the bargaining phase, btw.

did i miss something?

I joked that Tabuu would be a fighter because Smash Run has SSE enemies because that matches the argument that Ice Climbers are in because of Smash Run enemies.

Obviously no one thinks Tabuu is getting in so unwittingly I pointed out how Smash Run can have enemies without a fighter. Of course back then this was just a joke, but now the reality is hitting us and Ice Climbers are looking more and more certain to be cut.

(Remember back then there were stories that Ice Climber may be difficult to implement on 3DS so people looked for any sign that they were in)

and now there's also the possibility that tabuu's a classic mode boss!

you've doomed us all, bgbw.

I just wanted to see if the Ice Climber's fur would now be properly rendered thanks to the power of Wii U.

I never understood the "SSE enemies are in Smash therefore Tabuu confirmed!!!1!!!"

Don't you guys know what OG means?
