As far as getting connected with other players, would the best approach be to friend people in your subgroup, then maybe start adding people in other subgroups in the same / nearby timezones (according to the spreadsheet)? Am I missing anything?

I was part of DestinyGAF EU during the beta but now Bungie.net says I'm not part of any clan. What's wrong? Should I apply to DestinyGAF EU 4 now?
 
I'll be approving people into the centrals and primary at some time today. If you haven't been accepted into Primary, I highly recommend you cancel and reapply as it makes it easier to find people. Quote me and it makes it even easier to find you.

Just a reminder that my North American Xbox One clan (Progenitor) is recruiting.
