Shadow of Mordor: Brutal kills video

Ok this is shaping up nicely, the combat seems to have a load of different facets to it. Plenty to keep me entertained.

Game looks great. The only turnoff I find with the game is the apparent lack getting new gear (someone correct me if that's incorrect).

So much screen tearing. And what is it about gamespot videos on youtube that make everything look 10x worse than it really is? Gamespot, please invest in better video capture software/hardware.

If this didn't explicitly say Lord of the Rings I would have assumed it was a Warhammer game or something. I haven't really been following this title, but the impression I get from this trailer is that LotR is getting the AAA treatment in all the wrong ways.

And what's with the music?

You don't get new weapons or armor, but there's a deep upgrade system for your weapons using a variety of runes that you collect from defeated enemies. My understanding is that you'll want to keep swapping between them for different missions to capitalize on a target's specific weaknesses.

This is probably the worst trailer to sell someone on the game who doesn't get off on gratuitous violence. The game has so much more to offer.

A little too much cinematic slowdown for my tastes, but the game looks like it could be fun.

I don't mind the slowdown but I wish there was more damage detail during them. The one scene where the enemy takes a sword splitting half way down his skull, and when the sword pulls out, there isn't even a mark. Stuff like that bugs me. Can't they at least put a red line there?

Looks good, will probably give it a whirl. Wonder if there will be a demo.

Man, they used the wrong IP for this game. It really should be a Game of Thrones title.

It almost seems to me that it would garner more interest if it was an original IP.

Sweet.I pre-ordered this on PSN yesterday. The game just keeps looking better and better every time they show it. I also really love LoTR.

On the one hand this game looks really cool (I also played it at Pax and had fun) but at the same time i'm a fan of LotR and the brutally violent tone of the game just feels so terribly at odds with Tolkien's world which, while certainly not blood-free, never revels in it the way I feel Shadows of Mordor does. I'm not sure how to feel about this.

This video finally sold me on this game. I can't remember the last time I paid full price for a game, either DS2 or TLOU, but I think I'll be grabbing this and Destiny on release

I'm purchasing it but I'm not really expecting much.

Coming in with low expectations and hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

Don't think there is anything wrong with that.
A lot of times the mindset of a person starting a game has a big effect on their enjoyment. Any small negative aspect could justify said preconceived notions.

In any case, in your shoes I would probably wait for impressions and reviews from other players before purchasing.

Is that slowdown part of the game or editing for the video? I can't imagine I'll even bother giving it a try if it needs to pause every time to show me the totally sick decapitations.

Ugh, I genuinely hate what they're doing to the LotR license with this game. It's trying way too hard to be violent and edgy and mature. The Hobbit and LotR books were about adventures and outsmarting insurmountable odds, not fucking carving through thousands of orcs in slow motion with arcs or gushing blood.

So good.

The wait for this game is painful, glad Destiny is coming out soon to keep me distracted.

Pretty sure the music was just added by Gamespot for the montage.

In terms of the violence, it really doesn't look too dissimilar to the Peter Jackson movies.

I kind of want to play this game because the lead-writer/designer worked on RDR, but something about placing it in Tolkien's universe feels wrong. It just feels extremely fan-fic-y and fake. Really wish they'd come up with their own IP.

Will probably buy after reviews/sales.

It's a similar level of violence as the 15 minute climaxes of each 3 hour movie, except it's the primary action for the entire game here. There's a fundamental difference to building up to that level of violence as opposed to keeping it at that level from go.

I got to play this at PAX last weekend. The line was constantly capped but it was well worth it. They let us play for 20 minutes. The combat was smooth and very reminiscent of batman. The stealth system was also very neat with how quickly you could cross areas. All of this was played on a PS4 and i'm about 99% sure at that time, it was easily 60fps.

Can you provide more details on your impressions of the stealth? Almost all the trailers show off the combat, but I'm curious to what extent you can infiltrate and take out a target without fighting 20 incidental guys every single time.
