Vince Zampella, video game developer behind ‘Call of Duty' franchise, killed in crash

Knowing everything gives cancer in California I'm guessing there are plenty of signs before entering the tunnel.
One of the other videos posted here with a vehicles crashing off the mountain shows much more including a lot of the winding road up to the two tunnels. The only signage at all are the max height sides on the tunnels themselves. Absolutely nothing else which is insane.

The guy that filmed the video which is on Instagram said the passenger was ejected and was conscious and talking and later died I think from bleeding out as per his comments. He said his name was Zach.

And he did have his seatbelt on but the entire seat bucket was also ejected. They dragged him to safety away from the burning car, bucket and all.
Welp :(

Isn't there a way to 'fix' this?

Like can they possibly extend the tunnel cover forward, close to around the bend so it avoids opening directly into sunlight at all times of the day?

You just need to signalize inside the tunnel with 4 traffic signs "caution sharp/dangerous curve ahead" at 200m then a "150m / 100m/ 50m" plus matching asphalt grooves in a 4-3-2-1 pattern. (Or whatever feets you guys use for that)

The thing is so common in mountain ranges road anywhere on the globe and cost next to nothing.

RIP... I remember criticizing him back in 2009 when he released CoD MW2 on PC without dedicated servers. You will be missed, Vince.

The passenger was a guy called Zack, he was alive for almost an hour, and apparently they talked to him. If I had to guess, he was some friend who wanted to join the speedracing "event" they were doing.

There was a motorcycle that showed up right after the crash, I wonder if that was civilian traffic or if he was part of the "event".

There could definitely be signage at least that it's opening up to a sharp corner from low visibility.
Can only help so much. There is an exit ramp on my commute with yellow black chevron sign indicating its a tight turn - about a year ago start taking the turn and there is a car facing the wrong way, actually up on the concrete barrier, had obviously taken the turn too fast and lost control. They add flashing yellow lights to the chevron signs. Cut to a few days ago - almost identical crash in the exact same location.

That's crazy. That's not the same section of the crash, but even that snippet is two small tunnels and zero signs there's a big turn.

Does that entire stretch of thin roads, tunnels and bends have any signs?

I didn't see any in this video. Note that driver posted the video, so he survived rolling off the mountain.

Edit: Rewatching it again I did notice a sign for a split second, but it's that zig zag straight line for a curving road. Nothing signifying the sharp turn that's there.

Jesus I saw the vid. It's still sad but come on man. You were 55, rich as fuck with a family and fulfilling career. You could have spent the next 20 years relaxing living the life. Wasted it to go fast in a car for 10 seconds.

If folks were standing there to record, it seems like they were expecting him to speed out of the tunnel. No signage will stop them from doing this.

Either way, RIP. Any letter from Activision yet?

He just saved Battlefield and now this. Way too soon, man. Rest in peace.
BF6 is pretty remarkable in this day of age of bad shooters. What else happened in this crash?

Video game icon Vince Zampella died at 55 in a fiery, single-car crash on Southern California's Angeles Crest Highway on December 21, 2025, where his Ferrari veered off the road, hit a concrete barrier, and caught fire, trapping him while a passenger was ejected, with both victims succumbing to injuries. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the unknown cause of the crash, which occurred around 12:45 p.m

Still no cause, certainly questioning the car, weather etc.
