Regarding the passenger that was pulled from the car:

Looks like the media aren't accurately reporting this. Vince was still in what was left of the chasis of the car, they couldn't get him out and it instantly caught fire. The passenger was on the other side and they managed to pull the seat out because it separated, he was still alive after the impact but it took too long for the medical team to reach the scene.

RIP.

Those roadside defences are horribly designed, why just leave a flat upright surface for someone to smack into?

It's a concrete barrier/wall, but it's in a horrible place. The barrier should start right at the entrance/exit point of the tunnel and stretch all the way around the corner with no breaks.

It also shouldn't be concrete, but I doubt a road like that will have much money put in to it, hence the lack of signage before and during the tunnel to indicate an upcoming turn over a crest.

Its very sad to see someone go so young.

They were coming out of a tunnel with what seems like at least 100mph? It looks like taking a huge risk there.

The media report was that passenger was ejected from the vehicle, pronounced dead at hospital.....he was.

Driver died on the scene in the car......he did, the car was slag so obviously he was dead, no need to go to hospital to figure that out.

NBC had the video of the car on fire....it's a hybrid in the event he was still alive in the car I hope he was unconscious.

Which part did they get wrong

I saw a report earlier that said Vince was ejected from the car.

If they've since updated it to be factual then good on them.

"bullshit protocols"

I get that emotions are high for that guy but lets not blame the first responders. The blame for this situation lies entirely on ONE person.

Also consider how dangerous it is to bystanders or first responders to even approach the car in a place where another car may be flying out of the tunnel blind at any moment.

Concrete barriers shouldn't be a thing on twisty roads, I can understand having them on the freeways but even then I'd opt for metal barriers in front of them that can bend and take the hit without instantly stopping the car and not giving anyone a chance to survive.

I imagine that in the US there's a shitload of roads to maintain, but judging from the youtube clips from that exact place it's a rather popular spot so it is a different case than some barely used roads with minimal traffic.

The article this thread is based on simply said passenger/driver it didn't specify which one was Vince.

We've only been updated relatively recently as to who was driver/passenger from social media posts mind you.

We assumed Vince was the driver due to him having a lot of fast cars already, so he was most likely driving one of his toys.

Yeah as soon as I read that I was annoyed. It's only "bullshit protocols" because you are emotional which trust me I get but those protocols are in effect for a reason and it's to not risk more lives.
