Don't buy crappy gimmick comics, buy God Hates Astronauts instead!

Hells yeah. Been busy getting ready for this move and what not,,
kinda forgot about all my hype for this book.

You see/get that Geof Darrow variant Tim?

p.s.... also I did buy crappy gimmick comics. (from DCBS)
A lot of the art I've seen looks pretty good,, But every since that Joker/Gorilla story I am anxious about the gimmick stories.

I'm right there with you, I miss the old universe and it's not even nostalgia.

Man, I really miss the old Bat universe. It was like this one, only it had awesome characters like Oracle and Huntress and cool Batgirls and a sensible, logical timeline that had been carefully sculpted over generations. Now it's just "everything is the same until we decide it isn't", frustrating. I still like Batman, but not as much as I used to. I can't tell if this is just me getting older, or my reaction to the gutting of a universe I spent considerable time in for my whole life. Going back and reading Rucka's old Tec run was a breath of fresh air lately. So breezy and fun.

/whine over!

Can anyone spoil what's happening in Original Sin? Just the bullet points of the event so far.
Yeah I wanna know what's going on

And comic prices have spoiled me so much. I was gonna pick up some manga today but each volume is like ten bucks a pop. For ten bucks I could buy an Image trade that will take much longer to read. Guess I'll just stick to ordering manga online...

You are singing my song.
Everything felt like it had weight and significance before.
Then they threw half of it out of the window, kept the other half and stirred what the had left into a jumbled mess.

Batman used to be my boy, now its just a drag.

Also they reconnected away my favourite Batgirl just so they could have Barbara as Batgirl again. Even though she was infinitely more interesting as Oracle.
Did Oracle even exist now? Fucked if I know, fucked if I even care.

I'm a digital reader, but I'll probably pick it up this weekend at Cincy Comic Con. I need to figure out what I want Browne to sketch for me, my initial thought was a member of the Royal Tiger Eating a Cheeseburger family, but this morning I thought maybe Darkseid eating a cheeseburger. Decisions, decisions.

Original Sin #8 was stupid. Guess even Aaron can't save this summer event. Spider-Man 2099 #3 is cool. Uncanny X-Men #25... sigh.

I try to ignore DC's retcons and create my own continuity.

I still dont consider New 52 Batman as not the "real"Batman :D

Whats his origin now?
I thought that Millers Batman: Year One was still his original origin, but now its Year Zero? Or happened Year Zero after Year One (What would only make sense from what Ive seen, but zero comes before one...)

Someone needs to create a "Choose your own continuity" webpage where you can pick and choose bits and pieces of Batman lore to create your own continuity.

Guys none of the stuff you are saying you loved about the old universe was even the original universe. It was the result of a retcon that mashed and jumbled a bunch of shit together. It took time for it to sort itself out into what it was just before the reboot. And having read both the old stuff and the new stuff there was just as much dumb shit in the old universe as there is in the new one.

I really hope I never become so jaded.

The "real" [Golden Age] Batman is dope. He didn't give a shit about guns. He'd straight merc gangsters.

The nu52 would've been fine if everyone started from the beginning but noooooooo Geoff Johns had to finish his Green Lantern run and Morrison had to finish Batman Inc.

I like old stuff, I like new stuff. I just tell myself Flashpoint happened and it changed how things happened. Also, the Multiverse, the original timeline could still exist.

Wow, someone here called Original Sin (I had hoped Marvel wouldn't be stupid enough to make it happen).

Fury is doomed to be a Watcher, though The Orb has an eye.

Ah well, I may get my new Bucky series with him as "The man on the wall", but I am done getting sucked into these events, a waste of time.

Personally if there's a 616 reboot I think Marvel should just have classic WWII/spy Fury in the 40's- 60's (no Infinity Formula, just a regular guy) and then SLJ Fury in present day.

True story. Golden Age Batman straight up murdered people like every issue.

Me. I called it. And I still loved it.

Another masterwork from the ever lovin' house of ideas.

Nah I doubt it. There is nothing gained in reverting and they've never reverted only moved forward. You're expecting people to suddenly have to learn a massive continuity again for no reason? That's not inviting to anyone besides die hard anti-new 52ers who obviously don't make up enough of a market to have mattered since DC is still doing fine marketshare wise.

It didn't stop them with Infinite Crisis.

I don't expect them to go back to the pre-Flashpoint continuity, but they'll probably be "merged" to bring back some popular missed sections and so they can pick and choose continuity. Again.

And I kinda look forward to it. If it's done competently there could be some great character beats. I've said before, I want to see Clark *pissed* with Barry for ruining his marriage.

The major things you need to know are:

The Watcher is murdered and his eyes (which "store" everything he has seen) are stolen.

Captain America assembles teams to investigate the murder.

In a battle in New York, the Orb has the Watcher's eyes and releases the secrets they contain. A lot of this is covered in tie-in issues (Angela being Thor and Loki's sister, Stark tampering with the gamma bomb that made Banner the Hulk etc.) Thor also becomes unworthy and can't pick up Mjolnir any more.

As well as working for SHIELD, Nick Fury has been secretly guarding the Earth against intergalactic threats as an assassin all these years. He's run out of infinity formula causing him to age rapidly, and has a bunch of highly advanced life model decoys.

Fury is thought to be responsible for The Watcher's death so the teams attack him

Spoilers for the last issue:

We see a flashback and it turns out Fury did actually kill him. His moon base had been attacked and raided by the Orb, Exterminatrix and Dr Midas who stole a bunch of stuff as well as injuring him and taking one eye. The Watcher has basically had enough of knowing everything and attacks Fury who has no other choice but to shoot him in the head. He takes his other eye after doing so.

Flash forward and everyone is fighting in the Watcher's moon base. Dr Midas wants to take all of the equipment and secrets he had acquired but Fury "sacrifices" himself by taking him down with the power of one of the eyes and destroying the base in the process.

In the end we see Bucky has taken over Fury's role as protector of earth which is spinning out into a new series, and Fury has survived the blast and basically becomes the new Watcher. The Orb is also still alive and in possession of the other eye

Lots of people, including myself, called that ending ages ago.

Honestly, I'd rather that than him completely killed off on the altar of Nu Nick Fury Jr.

DCs worst crime is still making Tim Drake to never have been a Robin.

At least he has a roll in Futures End and a decent roll in Batman Eternal.

His talk with Terry Mcginnis was pretty cool I thought. Hopefully he does something more before it ends.

Well Birdie, I guess that's another one on your big list of loved things :P

I wonder how Steranko feels about this, he must be kind of pissed.

Honestly, I'd rather that than him completely killed off on the altar of Nu Nick Fury Jr.

I guess you're right. I would rather have Ultimate Fury instead of generic angry Blandy Junior though, Coulson is fine though I guess.

God I hate Nu Nick Fury Jr. Such an awful way to introduce a pointless character.
Thankfully I haven't seen him about in any of the books I've read.

Hoping he got killed off somewhere. But he's probably still skulking about.

Beside the Tim Drake/Robin-thing, the changes really dont bother me. Mainly because I am not this big into DC, there are just some things like Barbara Gordon isnt Oracle anymore or Superman not more married to Lois Lane, which I prefer to the current Status Quo.

There are strange decision like the Batmans & Green Lanterns 60 year history happened in the last 5 years, which I really dont like.

Junior is stinking up Secret Avengers, everyone who reads the book cares about MODOK, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Spider-Woman and Coulson though. It looks like Fury may be shifted to Waid's Agents of SHIELD book, which is a good place to get him away from everyone.

Ultimate Fury is a better replacement, just bring him in and forget about Junior.

That's what hurts the most for me too. I enjoyed the Batman Inc concept, so having Dick as Batman felt pretty cool, it felt really dull when they made him Nightwing again. Batgirl hurt too, hell we even had Cass, though in a more limited role, she still existed. Even some of the villains who haven't popped back up yet. I don't think it's getting older, I still enjoy the old stories, but this new stuff, it just isn't doing it.

That's why Grayson is so def, though. With Spyral, it's the Batman Inc-iest book DC has right now.

Punisher was great, loved Frank in prison. Looks like his cop friend could become
the next Cole-Alves?

Black Widow needs more fun, the book really is suffering from it I think. Also, was there a retcon where Hawkeye no longer wore the classic costume in flashbacks?

I feel the same way. There were books I liked pre-new 52 and books that desperately needed a reboot to happen:
- Wonder Woman (JMS' run, uhhh ok)
- Superman (JMS' again! Ahhh!)
- Batman (Tony Daniel writing four issues about Sensei)

There are titles I miss:
- Secret Six!
- Detective Comics (Don't care much for the new 52 Detective)
- JSA
- Batman: Streets of Gotham

At least you can always go back to those great titles again.

Haha,, nice. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Death of Wolverine #1... was actually decent? I'm surprised. I always like McNiven's art, so that helps.

Good to hear,, I wasn't paying any attention to it or planning on getting it,, I saw Soule was writing it and the art looked good. So ill check it out. Got the Deadpool memorial variant

Yeah I felt like Original Sin just lost a lot of steam or whatever the last couple issues. Haven't read #8 yet

Widow makes me sad.

Sell me on the new Moon Knight folks.
I used to love the character back in the day, then it just got...odd and became a cluster fuck.
