She-Hulk and Spider-Man 2099 were good this week. The art on She-Hulk has been hit or miss, but the story is definitely enjoyable, even if it feels like hawkeye-light. Spider-Man 2099 isn't great, but it definitely scratches a certain itch.

I think 2099 has been great so far. Miguel is a riot and I've been enjoying his banter with the various characters.

I definitely enjoy it everytime I read it, but I somehow forget about it until when it comes out the next month. Maybe it just needs some time to build momentum.

UUUUHHHHHHHHHH. I just read Doom Patrol #54. What is what was that.
That was totally nuts. If Grant Morrison had turned the dial to 11 for the run up until #54, #54 turned the dial to 13.
I'm pretty sure I understood as much of that as I was supposed to understand. I definitely got what the general idea was. The rest was basically symbolism, right?
Goodness that issue was utterly nuts. I loved it. The art was fantastic too.

Then don't start #55 today.

That works out perfectly then, because I don't have time to read anymore tonight after #54 anyways! And thank goodness I've got the day off tomorrow, so I'll almost definitely be able to read the rest tomorrow. Especially after #54, I'm so incredibly excited for the rest of this.

that'd be great, then we can nerd out about it. Its so nice to see some people discover my favorite run of comics.

I'm definitely looking forward to nerding out about it!

I'll try to read up to 55 tonight so I can catch up tomorrow

Awesome!

Ya, but what caused that to happen? I figured it would be explained in this series, but nothing. Was it in some tie in? Considering there are like 15-20 superhero books with better writing/characterization/artwork than Original Sin, what is the point of an event book where nothing major happens? White Nick Fury got sidelined years ago. No one cares about the Watcher or any of the books villains. If you didn't buy the tie-ins you didn't even have a clue what these terrible secrets were. The biggest event of this series was the fact that Marvel got 100k of us to dish out $32 for this:

"Look, .........

What I picked up this week and thoughts and my fucking emotions.

Hawkeye vs Deadpool #0

I really liked the art here. And the set up is pretty fun cause 1) It's Hawkguy! and 2) it's Halloween! A Very Hawkguy Halloween with Deadpool. I haven't read any of the All-New Deadpool, but if it's fun as this issue, I'll check it out. It's not a gut-buster like Superior Foes, but it's energetic and fun (though Hawkguy is in annoyed mode all throughout). Also, Deadpool has a family!? And I like this Deadpool. He's not a fucking Looney Tunes character, but a nutty sorta family man. It's kinda great. I'm gonna start catching up with the All-New Deadpool now.

Southern Bastards #4

Here's my feelings after reading this one:

tumblr_ly2tovayz01qlkzoao1_500.gif

WHAT THE FUCK, AARON. Spoilers:
Is Earl dead? Did Coach Boss win?! God, that ending, that brutal fight. Now Earl's daughter is in the picture, is she the new protagonist?

The ending of this arc left me legitimately shaken. The art is beautifully twisted and craggy. Four issues in, this series is a contender for best of the year.

Superior Foes #15

The end is almost upon us and it's never felt more fun. First of all...
poor Herman. I really hope he's not dead. He really is the only decent one out of the punch.

This double cross upon double cross noise is gonna lead to a hellaciously hilarious finale. This series really is the little series that could.

Sex Criminals #7

It's really weird that a comic about people who can make time stop by having an orgasm has some of the most relatable characters in comics right now. The art's silly and cartoony, but the characters and their fuck ups and flaws feel real. Fraction really does nail the characterization of Jon and Suzie as they sorta start... coming apart at the seems a little? Well, Jon mostly. Very interesting stuff. Plus, some great comedy.

Moon Knight #7

Staring-Confused-Ron-Swanson.gif

Well, that about lived up to my low, low expectations. Art was good.

That is all. Wood, you have two more issues to enthrall me or I'm done (assuming MK doesn't get canned). Honestly, this would have been a better fit for Remender or somebody.

Black Widow #10

Okay, so I guess we now know who the Big Bad's like... assistant(?) is. That's something.
The episode is mostly just flashback to a past KGB mission where Natasha rescued the guy who's now holding Isaiah prisoner.

Honestly, this issue felt a little clunky. Does this mean that Hawkeye is also guest-starring in the next one? I was a bit confused. Is
Banner
?

Hawkeye and Black Widow were in love? I always thought they were just friends.

Art is good as usual. Storyline is still kinda moody.

The Punisher #10

First off, major props to Gerads for his artwork this week. Splendid. Loved the shots of the prison bars being the panel breaks. Really nice. Loved the use of colour too.

This issue also seemed to have serious Goran Parlov influences in the art. I swear, Frank as drawn by Gerad this time looked like Goran Parlov's rendition of him, but a bit cleaner. Not that I'm complaining. The art was seriously fantastic, I really liked it.

Anyway, another Punisher in Prison story, and it was awesome as they tend to be. It's fairly low-key, but I think the pieces in Edmondson's overarching story are really coming together now. In Black Widow, everything feels muddled, but in Punisher it feels like we're really building to something. Another Big Bad enters the fray, we get bits of Castle working out just what the hell is happening, and we see the chaos that's fallen on Los Angeles since Castle was forced out, which I think is important to showcase. And honestly, it sucks :(

I'm also really loving Castle's more humanized traits here.
He thinks of LA as 'home' and he realizes it's the first time he's thought of a place as home in a long time.
I think it's nice to see a Frank Castle that is a more human relentless underdog versus a grim specter of vengeance.

Great stuff.

All in all, a good week. Only one disappointment really (I fucking knew Wood wasn't gonna live up to Ellis), the rest were great.

Not surprised to hear bad reviews on Moon Knight #7. I bought 18 issues of X-Men and it just got progressively worse. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice and uhhh, well, you can't get fooled again.

UXM #25 was good but I don't know why it was $4.99.

After reading 1 to 6, this felt almost amateurish. Moon Knight came off as just some fucking guy in a silly mask, not like... Moon Knight! It didn't have that killer ending that just hits you. Its not a one off like the other six.

It feels... standard. There were bits that were interesting, but... I dunno.

Cool, glad to hear some feedback.

New Deadpool is great. It takes a while to find its voice, but once it does it's a huge step up from Waypool.

Has anyone heard of read The Death-Defying Dr. Mirage? Marvel redemption is still down so looking to pick up some other stuff.

Grayson future's end is fantastic. I didn't like the art, but the script is great. Reading it both backwards and forwards.

Also, reading earlier in the thread
Why are you guys thinking Helena backstabbed dick? It leads you to believe that, yes, but read the issue backwards. She used the acid! She's saving his life at the beginning of the book. It's emphasized by the last page, where Zucco is shown applying acid in the exact same method as helena.
It was a great twist. I gotta reiterate, really good script.

Edit: aaaand I just realized
also in that first page, she says "THE ROOF" using the cluemaster's code as she applies the acid.
hot dayum

Edit2: Yeah, I'm just going to go ahead and recommend this issue to everyone. A great spy story with some really good character moments, all framed with flawless and clever use of a fun narrative gimmick.

Do we know where Donie went off to or did he disappear on us again? I miss that guy.

Wow, Lemire and Sorrentino went out with a BANG with the Futures End issue. Man, that was really good and tied into my spoiler above so good. God, that may have been the single best issue by them and it's over. So sad. Such a great creative team that I don't even think tapped their potential for the character and book. Sigh.

Do we know where Sorrentino is off to next? I can't remember if that was announced or not.

Darwyn Cooke? Looks old school.

Yeah. Just read it, might be my book of the week. Johns JL was kinda stale up until the Trinity War and it started to change. His plan was coming to fruition. The additions of Captain Cold and Lex and Shazam to the League have made the book one of the best team super hero books out there. Shazam added the much needed comic relief. He is getting a LOL moment every issue. The Lex and Bruce moments have been some of the most engaging between two superheros in some time.

Love this book right now.

I think Rocket Racoon will start off with 7/10 every month based on just art alone. It is just fun to look at. Skottie ain't bad with scripting either. Three issues in and it has been a interesting story so far. SY is perfect for this book.

Elephantmen was really good this month. It was very much an H.R. Giger tribute, with a long monologue about the Red Queen (as used in regards to genetics) with some very strange and erotic illustrations throughout. There were also a few pages of actual story, too!

What is the actual plot in God Hates Astronauts?

A NASA funded group of arrogant "super people" must stop a rash of farmers that have been using rocket-powered silos to launch themselves into outer space! As these Astro-Farmers fire themselves all over the galaxy, NASA must utilize their every resource (a guy with a ghost-cow head, a bunch of magic bears, and a Chicago cop with robot arms) to avoid an intergalactic incident!

Yep. That's it.

Great job with this post! I was going to post the same thing. The art isn't that bad but it's still pretty fine but the writing is what makes it my comic of the week. I'm just shocked at the high quality of the script...

I got Daredevil HC Volume 3 today!

51pWkH5geLL.jpg

I read through all of Volume 2 and about half of Volume 3 today (Up to Issue 26).

Man, this is a great book. On the one hand, I regret not reading it month-to-month, but it reads so well in hardcover.

I won't say too much about the art. It's fantastic. I love the vibrant, slightly cartoony style. The action scenes and radar scenes are fantastic. Characters are great.

But yeah, such a great story so far. I stopped reading at the point where
Daredevil figures out that Bullseye is behind it and goes to confront him and the last shot is Ikari behind Matt.

Random thoughts:

Foggy's cancer :(

tumblr_lt8uhr0CAe1qkey64.gif

I think I need to read Brubaker and Bendis' Daredevil runs. They reference Matt's marriage to Milla and give the basics about what happened to her, but I kinda wanna see it for myself, and they talk about Daredevil having murdered Bullseye which surprised the shit out of me. I was like "Finally."

The Coyote is fucking creepy as hell. But I guess the Spot's dealt with him now.

I <3 Kirsten MacDuffie.

Otto's attempts at jokes are amusing.

I want more Daredevil/Punisher interaction. I've always gotten the vibes that these two could have been great friends in another life.

I really dig Matt's surprising friendship with Hank Pym. I guess it makes sense, these two both suffer from shitty lives and mental disorders, but yeah, Daredevil and Ant-Man's great!

Latverians are such twats.

It must be so hard for Matt to try to be happy when all this horrible shit is still happening to him.

When will the next OHC come out? I'm just gonna be collecting these in Hardcovers (looks great on my shelf and reads well too). After this volume, they started the numbering from the start, right?

I thought about buying Moon Knight #7, but I just ended up rereading #6 again.

Good choice.

Southern Bastards

that....was just the first arc?
i6P2EGLjoNGyQ.png

That shit left me legit shook.

Goddamn.

My heart hurts.

I am interested in God Hates Astronauts but haven't read the previous trade. Is that required reading?
You can read the TPB free online
http://www.godhatesastronauts.com/

I'm putting you all on notice right now: any votes for this month's best that don't include a showing by God Hates Astronauts #1 will be immediately discarded.
This is awesome

Glad people seem to be liking this. I've been looking forward to this since April.. it did not disappoint.

Grayson's future end

fuck this shit I know nothing good gonna came out from this gimmick month

Helena backstabbing Dick, and he hanged up on the rope

Your wrong. Completely wrong.

First of all, this issue was pretty cool. The issue is told backwards, and can also be read backwards. You can see Dicks rise from Robin to Nightwing to Agent, or backwards. I thought it was a cool narrative trick.

Secondly, Dick is still alive. Helena uses the Cluemasters code, she tells Dick to meet on THE ROOF. That was the secret code.

Welp I miss the last bit, must've because the blood that boiled up..

But yeah the issue was actually pretty cool.

Southern Bastards.

I'll say it again.

Please, please let Earl not be dead.
I was enjoying an old protagonist.

Southern Bastards feels.

Superior Foes still firing on all cylinders even though theres an end in sight. I want the same team to do a sequel maybe in a couple years with characters like Funny Bunny and The Wall.

Finding it hard to be totally enthused about comics right now because of all the cancellations of my faves, and also because erm... I'm sort of orbiting a bit of the industry right now and a current distribution problem is driving me fucking insane.
