Apparently "stepping on jordans in the hood" is a great prank idea

people saying "just a pair of shoes"

It's not about shoes or anything about that it's much deeper than that, it's about one man respecting another.

Listen, I know shoes are a fashion statement, But you wear them on your feet and you use your feet to walk around in dirt and other shit on the ground to protect your feet. The shoes are going to get dirty, they aren't always going to be clean. Beating some dude up for stepping on your shoes is dumb. Shit like that happens all the time and I don't care if you are in love with shoes, it's dumb. I'm not telling anyone how to spend their money, I'm saying it is fucking stupid to complain/ beat someone's ass over shoe scuffs. The dudes scuffing up shoes are dumb because they are being purposefully antagonistic, but the reaction that some of them had to beat his ass over a scuff on his shoe? If you think that's ok then good for you buddy!

Read the post above me. The condition of the shoes is only one small factor.

Why is this so difficult for so many people.

Disrespect does not justify violence.

Being baited does not justify violence.

Someone being a douche does not justify violence.

Ever. Under any circumstance.

Being disrespected shouldn't justify violent retaliation. But that's easier said than done apparently.

No one is saying otherwise. It's just so weird people are getting caught up on the reactions and not on the stimulus of those reactions.

Turn the other cheek..then spin around and clobber the rabble-rouser!

I remember this being a thing in the mid-late 90's when I was still in HS.

You'd say something like "Sorry bout your Jordans!" then when the victim looked at you in confusion you would stomp on their foot as hard as you could.

I never partook, as it just seemed stupid to me even at the time.

And none of us had Jordans anyways.

Wow, it's almost like humans aren't perfect in every instance.

The worst part of these videos isn't even the videos themselves it's the comments section where people think that the pranksters are completely justified and that the ones being "pranked" are just black people getting angry for no reason.

No one is saying otherwise. It's just so weird people are getting caught up on the reactions and not on the stimulus of those reactions.

I think a lot of people don't understand why someone would immediately turn to violence. Why not use wordsmith & wit vs. physical harm?

All this victim blaming. Why do I still come in these threads
Wow.

Every. Single. Thing. Is victim blaming.

You got robbed because you left your door open? Victim blaming if called out
You uploaded nude pictures on Facebook and someone shared the link? Victim blaming if called out
You beat someone up over nothing? Victim blaming if called out

This shit is really annoying.

No one is allowed to be sensible or smart. You can do whatever you want and it's never your fault. Such bullshit.

Edit unless if you meant the 'pranksters' are the victims. Then I'm sorry for misunderstanding. Although they're not really victims either.

That's it. What these kids are doing is far more disturbing than the reactions. And apparently the reactions aren't even real, so ALL we are left with is the intent to reinforce negative stereotypes.

I'm sorry but if a person is intentionally antagonizing someone, knowing full well that that person will respond with violence, then I have absolutely no problem with if that person receives such violence. Though this isn't the response I personally wouldn't take, I have no problem if someone else decides to take that route.

And if they step on your shoe you beat the fuck out of that man?

Respect. Such bullshit. If you will beat a human for stepping on your shoe you don't deserve my respect.

Lol the hypocrisy of your statement, so going out and antagonizing people is being "smart and sensible". Also I love how you went on this rant against the entire notion of victim blaming and then spin around and say it's ok only if used in reference towards the pranksters.

"Victim" can have a pretty broad definition. In this case, being tricked and disrespected.

I think a lot of people don't understand why someone would immediately turn to violence. Why not use wordsmith & wit vs. physical harm?

Because not everyone reacts the same way??? Violence is just instinctual for some people. Sure, it's not right, but it's way less fucked up than having your personal space intruded and being disrespected in the most obvious, non-clever way possible.

How does Flatbush not qualify as "the hood"?

Isn't it significantly higher crime rate than all of NYC? Like 50% higher?

(not a defense of the video, see my earlier comments, but I'm pretty sure lots of New Yorkers would call Flatbush the hood.)

Yeah, it's definitely one of the less safe places in NY.

I would really like to see some of you guys' reactions to being spit on.

"Hey dude...don't do that again, please?"

It's fake. The intention of this form of entertainment is in watching black people behave a certain way. You can look at their video history to support this. They clearly have a theme with these stupid videos.

Yeah, it's definitely one of the less safe places in NY.

I'd suggest you chill in Brownsville or ENY if you think Flatbush isn't safe.

Flatbush isnt as bad as other areas of NY are. It's like Jamaica. There's a lot of middle class residents that live in those areas.

Disrespect is worse than violence? I find that more troubling.

"One of the less safe places." I'm sure there's several notches worse.

That's a very simplified view of what I said. Blatantly disrespecting someone for the sake of a prank is definitely worse than violence reacting to that stupid, disrespectful prank, yes.

Jordan's?
Those look stepped on normally.

LA Gear?

Best back the fuck off, son!

Jeesh. This is probably why I don't understand why those Orange County Housewives get into it because of disrespect.

going out recording "pranks" to aggravate a certain group of people to reenforce negative stereotypes (which is their whole shtick) is worse than reacting violently to somebody trying to make you, your culture/people look bad for comedy. If I worked hard and saved up money to buy a new pair of $180+ shoes and somebody invaded my personal space to somewhat assault me for no reason, then yeah, we're gonna have issues. Fuck them. Everybody's is trying to downplay their reactions because they're shoes, but it's still expensive personal property. It's the same as scratching a person's laptop/phone, purposely ruining their clothes, etc.

I understand that the poverty rate is essentially equal to the average in NYC; but the crime rate is significantly higher than average.

http://www.areavibes.com/new+york-ny/flatbush/crime/

But NYC itself isn't really a high crime city.. Flatbush being 50% higher than the average for NYC still puts it less than half the violent crime rate of Detroit.

I was pretty disappointed by the one guy who confirmed to them that it was funny/entertaining. There's not a single thing entertaining about these videos. More importantly tho, the main interviewer was great for bringing up the issues their videos cause and how it's blatant who they are targeting. I was not at all surprised by their reactions, their constant smiling and laughter at being told how much of a shit head they are. Was left disappointed that none of then asked them how the shit they do is considered a prank. I'd love to hear their explanation.

The mention of how one of the victims of the prank's neighbor accused the victim of stealing the phone instead of these shitheads. Makes me really sad to hear that.

What's worse, aside from the tongue lashing they were getting, is now more people know who the fuck they are and now they can collect even more views for doing blatantly racist "pranks" with zero effort.

Higher than average in NYC? I'd respectfully disagree and I use City Data to back up my assertion:

http://www.city-data.com/city/New-York-New-York.html

NYC in general has benefited from Republican mayors who've pushed more progressive policies in terms of job making and cleaning up the cesspool that once was Times Square as part of the reduction in crime. Disney agreeing to set up a shop in Times Square is a big part of that renaissance, along with the broken window theory and unfortunately stop and frisk. It also is prohibitively expensive to move to NY, which helps keep natives in the boroughs.

Also a major flaw with statistic is the number of crimes that go unreported. In NY, with the general distrust of NYPD, that happens far too often.

But yes we haven't experienced anything as bad as Detroit has with their auto industry.

Yes significantly higher. Did you read the link I posted?

What does the generic NYC city data page prove?

NYC violent crime rate: 343 per 100k

http://www.city-data.com/crime/crime-New-York-New-York.html

Link I posted above shows over 900 for Flatbush.

Here's an article mentioning Flatbush's much higher violent crime rate:

http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york...ens-tally-25-city-shootings-article-1.1081741

One of the 5 precincts mentioned covers East Flatbush.

Again, I think they use "The Hood" just to refer to black people... but I don't think it's accurate to say "They aren't even in the hood." Any area in any city that has such a higher violent crime rate is probably considered "The hood" to a decent amount of people living nearby.

I'm going to walk around town, stab random people in the leg and just say "lol, joke. Just a prank, lol" when the police arrive. I'll get so many youtube views!

I think it's an accurate thing to say. Calling it the "Hood" because of the higher average crime rate compared to other neighborhoods makes as much sense as calling it the "Hood" because of the racial makeup of the area. The only reason people label it as such is because they don't know better. These videos perpetuating this shit doesn't help.

So you're telling me, if you were just going about your day minding your own business and these idiots came up and started stepping on your shoes that you'd be fine.

Prank or no prank, I wouldn't let some little punk kid get away with messing with me just because it's a prank. Also look at their other videos, some of them they go to the point of taking peoples phones from them.

These guys did it for a reaction to put up on youtube so all their little friends could laugh along with them and get the views. They deserved what they get, as they should respect others as they would themselves.

This isn't about race, it's about three kids that are just plain and simple assholes.

I know it isn't about race, but the first post is apologising for white people, why is that exactly?

It's the entire purpose of the moniker.. to indicate an area high in crime. Maybe not entire purpose but I'd say it's the #1 use of the word.. goes hand in hand with hoodlum. An area merely being poor might also get called "the hood" but it's usually used to designate how unsafe a place is.

How about we film a video of 3 guys just going to a college campus and grabbing other people's genitals just out of the blue. Male and female. Let's see how many react violently. And then cry about how mad everyone is getting over a 'simple prank.'
