Bummer, Skottie Young had to cancel his appearance this weekend. So sorry Tim, I knew you and your wife were really looking toward to meeting him.

Skottie Young has been battling a major illness for the last couple of weeks, and on doctors orders has to regretfully cancel his appearance at this years show. However, Skottie being the amazing man that he is will still be sending his assistant along with original art, signed prints and books for the fans to purchase at his booth. But wait there is more! Skottie has made arrangements to come to Cincinnati, Saturday October 4 at Up Up & Away! Comics so you can meet him and get the full convention experience in a much more intimate environment. We hope he gets well soon and wish him the best. And of course we apologize to the fans, we are every bit as sad as you and Skottie by this late breaking news.

In other news, my Absolute Planetary v2 just arrived. v1 Arrives tomorrow, so time for a re-read.

It warms my heart to see more people discovering and enjoying Morrison's Doom Patrol =)

I was always interested, but the omni gave me the kick in the butt I needed to actually check it out

I have Animal Man to read next, but I think I'll read through Batman volume 2 first since Cheska gave it to me

I had no idea about the series. I randomly picked up the 2nd tpb from the library and 'The Painting that Ate Paris' blindsided me. I put the tpb down and ordered the omnibus when someone said it was close to release.

Animalman's great, and the ending will give you feels.

Oh, oh, can I do my Animal Man anecdote again?

I used to live in Cardonald, Glasgow. To read an American funnybook which ends outside the primary school I attended was perhaps one of the most mind blowing events in my life.

Guess we'll be going to Up, Up, and Away Oct 4th then.

That's cool that his assistant will still be there with prints and such for sale.

So since the topic of signatures just came up: Anyone not really care that much about the actual signature?[/spoiler]
I'm pretty much the same, unless I can get a print or something display-worthy signed. I have a ton of random issues signed just because I wanted to say "hey" to the writer or artist.

So I think I just read through 400 pages to finish Doom Patrol over the past few hours

I'm gonna agree with everyone else who is reading the run for the first time-- this comic is a complete masterpiece. I did find quite a few sections to be a bit overwhelming in the beginning but over time you just kind of soak in everything and realize it's not as complicated as it seems. All of the characters were just fascinating in their own ways and I literally enjoyed every single arc. I just want to give Cliff a big hug. He deserves a medal.

Part of me is interested in other Doom Patrol series, but Morrison's handling of the team along with his absolutely insane arcs just makes me feel like I'd be setting myself up for disappointment. If you're on the fence, check it out. I was intimidated and confused multiple times throughout the series, but if you stick with it, you will be rewarded. It's amazing how Morrison builds up these worlds and backgrounds for such small arcs and one-shots, and it works every single time.

You finished it!?
I'm officially the slowest reader. I could only manage I think 4 issues today. I absolutely loved every single one of those issues, but I just can only read so much. Plus, all that mind-shattering was taking a toll on my sanity.

I stand by my earlier statement that Animal Man is the greatest of all time.

The newest issue of Lumberjanes is the best issue yet. It's a really fun book.

So since the topic of signatures just came up: Anyone not really care that much about the actual signature? I'll admit I'm not super huge on getting stuff signed, but for me it's interesting because it's a chance to meet someone who's work you respect face to face, if only for a brief moment, and to in turn kind of say "here's something of yours that I really, really love." The signature is just kind of a memento of that moment in my mind, so something like buying an a signed work just seems pointless to me.

That's totally just how I feel about it personally though, and I definitely don't want to put down people who are really into them. Just wondering how everyone else feels.

Like I said though I'm not much of a signature guy in general. In fact one of the few I have is a Ultimate Spiderman vol #1 that used to be a library copy that's battered beyond belief that my friend handed off to me at the last minute when we got in line because he wanted to get a signature from Bendis. Thing is in hilariously poor condition for a signed book, haha!

Nah I pretty much totally agree. Don't think i'd ever just buy a signed comic; just don't really see the point

I got my Aquaman Vol. 1 signed by Ivan Reis. He was very rushed about it

The Doom Force #1 issue was bloody hilarious.

Lol, I went from 51 all the way to the end today.

I was reading manga before that too

edit: My favorite one-shot was The Beard Hunter. Favorite arc was the one with Flex Mentallo and the Pentagon.

You're crazy, Freeza. Well done. I wish I had that kind of focus. Haha

And yeah, that Flex Mentallo and the Pentagon arc was probably my favorite as well, but all of the other ones were truly amazing too.

Guys, I am looking at original Catwoman art. HELP! FUCK. I can't find any guillem march stuff. its all from the more recent stuff.

I would do bad things to get one of Cookes good Catwoman pages :(

Do Gail Simone or Amanda Conner charge? Please tell me no. Don't break my heart.

Also Snyder?

Can't say anything about Snyder, or Simone but Amanda doesn't charge. She's good people. She was married to the guy who owned the local comic shop I went to growing up, so she was there all the time. Did signings for her Barbie comics, and then some covers she did.

And hey, GrandHarrier, don't try and act like you're not just being a straight-up DC fanboy. You know this is just a disguised complaint about Marvel. If Pulido was drawing Batman, you know you'd be loving it.
he he

You know, a while back there was a poster that went by 'omg rite' that was a huge marvel fanboy. Would have been fun/awful to see him and Grand Harrier go at each other.

Legit excited for this. I think Quesada's work looks better without blacked out shadows

X23: The Killing Dream

I liked it a lot. I liked the use of Gambit in this book. He has some funny lines and comes off human. I cared about Laura throughout the book and the Sinister content was delightfully weird.

Tell me what you want her doing and I'll render something horrifying when I get home, unless Kipp beats me to it.

I'm definitely making a point of going to see Scott Lobdell at Rose City this month. He is to me as Nocenti is to Messi. I'm going to find a particular issue of say, Teen Titans, and have him sign it and say, "This issue, this issue is where joy died."

Which particular issue of TT? I don't remember was he on N52 TT starting with one?

Yo, the truth is I only read a very small handful of Marvel, half of which is through my roommates pull list so I don't actually have to buy it. But I generally don't comment that much about the quality of the titles outside of artwork. My fanboyism is less of a "Marvel sucks" than a "I just like DC more". I've often related how I started out reading Marvel books as a kid. But my fandom didn't happen till I discovered DC.

My current issues with Marvel, though, are more about their general movie first mentality. For good or ill, it seems like their comics are more and more being dictated by the needs of the movie division. Ex: If we see Falcon Cap and a female Thor, in later waves of movies, it'll be confirmation of this directive. Until then, of course, it's just speculation.

He rode that shit into the ground from start to finish.

Messi, what would you ever do if Olivia Wilde was cast as Selina in a movie?

I hate this this too. Really takes a lot of fun from the comics for me. At least I am always kinda comfortable with shitty new status quos, because I can expect them to change back when the next movie is released.

Messi only watches movies that Olivia Wilde is in. This is why he hasn't seen Star Wars or Alien.

I have seen the first 2 Alien movies, only earlier this year, but I seen them. Ripley is super hot.

Yeah, I own all of Olivia Wildes movies so sue me.

She auditioned for the role of Vesper in Casino Royale but didn't get it. Which she said crushed her :(.

Broad she be a member of the Titans....

I want to know that feeling.....

I don't know what I'd do if Amethyst joined the Titans, "Teen" or otherwise. I love her role in the JLD, it could be bigger, but Titans... man, that'd be cherry. She's definitely a character with much untapped potential. I'd love to see her team-up with Wonder Woman.

The Element Woman and Vibe team-up book I wanted never happened, but maybe Amethyst and Wonder Woman is more of a possibility...
who am I kidding?

Wishful thinking says that DC is going to announce a team-up book starring Element Woman and Vibe, chronicling their adventures in the multiverse. I'd buy ten copies!

I'm kinda glad she didn't get that role, only because I loved Eva Green as Vesper.

I'm gonna assume you have watched the Black Donnelly's then? That show deserved to be on the air for at least five seasons...

Why are there no big Northern CA conventions? I went to stupid Wizard Con in my hometown of Sacramento this year, but it was all TV stars and no one that actually works in the comic book industry... their artists' alley was a joke.

Where in NorCal are you at? You should go to Big Wow Comic Fest next year! I've gone the past two years, and have had a blast each time! I've met Adam Hughes, Greg Rucka, Michael Lark, Aaron Lopresti, Stephane Roux, Terry Moore, and more that I can't remember right now.

I know Mike Mignola was there this year, and Neal Adams is there pretty much every year too. Tickets are cheap, and they have a ton of merchandise/art.
