iOS Gaming September 2014: Brace yourselves, 4.7" and 5.5" Hi-Def gaming is coming

Any rumours on whether either iphone 6 model will be able to run iPad-only apps? Like, I'd probably sell my 5S and ruin myself financially to get a 6 at 5.5" if it could play Hearthstone.

iPhone / Android support is on the short list now, might be out by the end of the year. They said you'd be surprised how little they need to adjust the game to play on an iPhone.

Yeah I'm loving every minute of it, the more I play the more interactions there are too.
Music is truly fantastic.

I have a strange problem tough, this game only.
If I use my BT headset, there is a constant static that repeats itself.
No problems with cord headphones or speaker.
It's just this game.

Any ideas?

I've heard of audio issues with the iOS version so maybe Ubi need to patch the game for that. I can't really help you, I've played it on PC ;)

Thanks anyway.
It's weird, seems like some sort of protection.
It's clearly intentional and only with BT headphones.

A damn good release coming tonight:

Counterspy - $4.99

This looks great but have to ask if anyone knows what the differences are between this and the Vita/PS3/PS4 versions.

It seems VERY shocking for Sony to actually release this on iOS and only a few weeks after releasing on their own consoles. I know that they're trying to cross promote games (like with the upcoming LBP runner), but to actually publish a full PSN game on a competing platform?

Also, reading the IGN review, which gave it a 7, they noted some significant framerate issues on the Vita. Have to wonder if the same will occur on the iOS version.

And .... This is $10 cheaper than the other versions.

Interesting stuff and would be nice to know the answers -- particularly if this is the full game.

Just watched gameplay of the Vita version, the tutorial is exactly the same as the Touchgameplay video. I think this might be the real deal, not a stripped down mobile version

Did some research and I guess Counterspy was announced as coming to all the Sony platforms as well as iOS and Android. Kind of surprising, but I'll take it. Wonder if the Android version will be popping up later tonight.

If so, I'm in!
From the TA thread, sounds like the controls might be an issue:
I have only so far played the Game for around one hour so all I can tell you is the Control Sytsem that was choosen by the Developer (Swipe + Hold, Swipe + Tap, Double TAP, Tap + Hold + Aim,... is weird and kinda hard to get used to the first 30. Minutes but afterwards you kinda accept that they did tried something new and that I can either accept it or ask Apple for a refund.

I have also to mention that coming from the PSN Build it was the first couple of Minutes barely playable for me because the Game did felt often as if it wasn`t responding to my commands at all.

Often I had swiped once and the Game was noticing it only half ot the time and afterwards I did swipe slower and the Game did then react. There also seem to be either a bug because sometimes the Game does accept one swipe as a run and sometimes it does believe you did swipe twice and start running.

It also most of the time doesn`t help the Gameplay Flow that you for whatever reason have to end commands first with a Tap and afterwards you are able to do the next command.

Example:

I was running in the Gameplay Video above and instead of just Tap + Aim to start aiming with my Weapon the Game did interpretieren it as a Tap with both Thumbs to choose a different Weapons but that command is Tap + Hold two Thumbs and showed up the Weapon Menu while I was Tap + Holding one Thumb on the Left Side and then after a second adding a second Thumb on the right side to start the Aiming Process.

This doesn`t only happen once but twice and the next Mission I will see if it`s a Bug in the Control System or if I just need more time to practice or if I simple always have to make to stop my Agent when he is running with a Tap and then afterwards Tap + Hold and then Aim to be able to use my Weapon.

If that all sound as confussion to you as it does to me let me just show you how confussing it might get when you actually see a Screenshot of the Control System in all it`s glory:

I still like the Game very much and will keep playing it tonight and the rest of the Week

I am playing CounterSpy and the controls arent as bad as Sanuku says. Sure, there are quite a few moves, but it really feels natural. Swipe left to go left, 2 swipes to go faster, tap to stop, its really easy to take cover and shoot. I dont see any problem. Besides, looking at the video, he doesnt seem to have that much problem with it either...

Personally I'd say the Counterspy controls are pretty good. They take some getting used to, since you kind of auto run when you swipe (not like a slider) and sometimes the controls can be unresponsive and fidgety, like when you're trying to get into cover. But overall I feel the touch controls are good

The art style is awesome, the stealth action is fun, switching from 2D to 3D is really cool. So far I think it's worth the $5. Reviews of the Vita version say the game is short, around 2-3 hours. Maybe for 15, I'd be hesitant, but $5 is a good price for a few hours of stylish stealth.

Well... hmm.

It's honestly somewhat disappointing. Mikey Boots is pretty simplified compared to Mikey Shorts and Mikey Hooks, and while flying around seems like it ought to be really fun, it just doesn't have the same visceral joy as sliding through enemies and jumping or hooking and swinging.

:(

I'm quite liking it, but I'll have to agree with you about the visceral joy thing. The new gameplay mechanics in this game have definetly caused the rhythm of the other games to be lost. It's not a major flaw, but it's more of a "something feels off" thing

I'm going on an extended overseas trip soon and want some very long, in-depth iPad games to play in my downtime. Anybody have an suggestions that might fit the bill? I've never played Baldur's Gate or II, are those iPad versions any good? What about the iPad versions of KotOR?

Both are great.

Totally agree. I'm still currently playing through it but this seems the be the weakest of their Mikey releases. I'd rather they had been working on new levels for their other games than release this

Still enjoying Motorsport Manager

I am at the 2nd highest tier now and have nearly finished my first season there. As you can imagine it has been mostly 10th place finishes which is to be expected. I am heavily investing in tech as I think my drivers are pretty good (both around 70 in most stats).

Has anyone completed it yet?

I bought Valiant Hearts: The Great War for PS4 instead of iOS, then yesterday, with a friend I started it.... 8 hours later we finished it in one sitting. There is nothing quite like it. There are quite a few gameplay mechanics between the four characters and the dog -Walt is pretty damn epic- and there story told here is touching and outstanding. How they met on their journey, the mature story told, the characters personality, the real info about the war -its didactic too-, never two puzzles feel the same, there is a lot of variety... all this and more makes a unique story with feelings, a touching one. I heard this one was one of the best games of the new generation and I fully agree on that. If the iOS version is the same -it seems so from what I watched on videos- and controls good, 12$ is the best money you will spend on the AppStore right now. On PS4 is absolutely epic, on iOS could be the very best game of this kind -puzzle-action-stealth-platformer-, surpassing all the competition by a land slide. VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I poured many, many hours into Galaxy on Fire 2 HD. It's a very nice arcadey space sim, akin to Privateer.

The Room games, the first and the second, if you haven't played them yet. They aren't very long, but imho a must play title on iOS.

Pretty lengthy, and quite nice: Ghost Trick

A bit older, but a game I thoroughly enjoyed: Waking Mars

And finally, if you like a Zelda-like experience, my vote goes to Oceanhorn

I tried the iPad version of the first Baldurs Gate, but really struggled with the controls. I only spent an hour with it before giving up and regretting my purchase.

I do not have completed the game but was about to come here and post how freaking awesome this game has turned to be.

Last two hours flew by in a eye blink while I was following these characters and their touching stories.
Really, there is nothing quite like it...it blends some puzzles and action parts to let you interact with this incredible 'cartoonish' but really mature story.

Loving it, I second the recommendation and urge people interested in it to give it a try.

BTW...it's pretty flawless on iPad and iPhone (iCloud manual sync too).
Controls are perfect and the game is simply gorgeous.
But what it's impressing me most is the audio....outstanding.

I agree. The controls may not be optimal but they work better than I thought they would after all the complaints I read.

But I'm thinking the game may be better on a larger screen. And since it's now out on Android too, I may try for a refund on iOS and get this for my Shield Tablet. If they don't refund, it's no big deal.

Really loving the art style and I like the mechanics (even if the controls are a little iffy).

Also, now reading that this is not the complete game (half the missions?). I suppose it being only 1/3 the price, it's still not bad. Also guess that's one reason Sony agreed to publish this...to hook people and add incentive to get one of their console versions.

Now this Stealth game has popped up and looks pretty good. Interesting timing.

You and I have very similar taste in the greatest games, first Out There, then Nightmare Cooperative... now Valiant Hearts... Its polished beyond belief in any area, and the music plays a mayor role... The way that music plays while you are riding the car is amazing. The action follows the music and they blend in some sort of orchestral way. Its simply amazing. And there are a few boss fights -than tank ending is EPIC-, a lot of action for a comic book adventure. I absolutely love every piece of it. There is nothing like it on any platform. The way is narrated and all the little details really make a living word worth exploring. And the collectible items each with its story along the real pieces of info of each level makes it even informative. There were a few things I didnt know, like why a Tank is named like that... and more. This game is AWESOME. Go buy it, 12$ is nothing.

So according to awp, on Counterspy:
It's misleading, even on Sony's part for not explaining in the app description. This game has only half of the levels of the PSP and console versions. Hence, likely the reason for the lower price.

Still not a bad deal. The gameplay is fun -- even if the controls are ideal. And $5 is still less than half of the full game.

I think you overlooked the fact that 5$ is a launch sale, who knows what price it will have when the sale ends. And speaking of the game, its solid good. The cover system works perfectly and the transition is really fast. I am really liking this game. Need to play it more but so far... excellent.

I am actually purchasing an iPad at the weekend. My first splurge in a while, I am mainly buying it for my love of Hearthstone. But I was wondering if you guys had any advice on must have apps or games that I should check out?

Also of any issues I may encounter and little hacks to get the most out of my iPad experience. Thanks.

Unless you are getting a huge deal, I would wait the 9 September (Apple conference).
Chances are that the new iPad is around the corner, so at the very keast previous models will get discounts.

Not working for me :-(.
Keeps saying "loading" after pressing "get my key".

Edit - still stuck on my iPad, but worked on PC :-).

We're seeing thousands of code redemptions so I know the page is working, but a few people are reporting error messages. Not sure why, honestly. Page is probably just overloaded. I suggest continuing to try, or coming back tomorrow to try (we won't have come close to running out at that point).

Theres a Apple event tomorrow where the new ones will get announced( assuming)

OK - confirmed the Hitman Go promo is up and distributing codes correctly:

http://www.ign.com/prime/promo/hitman-go-free

I find it funny how it seems like whatever IGN's free game is, it's always one that goes on sale a few weeks or a month before the promotion.

I grabbed it when it recently was $1.99 and certainly have no regrets. But I'm sure whatever dev gets on IGN tries to increase sales right before it hits.

Awesome game though.

And ironically coming with all of these stealth releases (CounterSpy, Stealth).

Thanks for the heads up - was somehow confined to Safari on my iPad, grapped a key via my PC :-)

Great giveaway!

Is there a purpose to moving units in TTV besides cosmetic reasons? I wish the game operated more like Kairosoft games in that sense.

Seems to be only cosmetic now, probably the reason why moving doesn't cost bux anymore. In the original it helped speed-up things since you could color-code bitizens to the color of their job and there was the whole "find this specific bitizen for me" thing, which is absent in Vegas.

Since it's not getting much notice here, thought I'd give a hardy recommendation for Battle Riders. Very impressive work from a one man team and a great battle racer overall. Mad Max grungy graphical theme with a good amount of content.

Only ding is that the tracks have largely the same look (so far anyway). Glad to see it got a Silver Award from Pocket Gamer.

A steal at $1.99 IMO.

Mikey Boots is a great game but I can't help but feel that a lot of the speed platforming from the first two Mikey games has been replaced with flying. The description of the game says this one is harder, but I've already flown through the first 24 or so levels with little challenge at all, easily getting 3 stars.

I still love the game, and the controls are as sensitive and great as ever, just wish they would've stuck closer to the first 2 games controls. Still highly recommended though.

Yeah I bought Mikey Boots and its too easy, I got to level 24 getting 3 stars and all the coin on my first run. Even the bonus stages when you figure out the ninja star pattern. Good game though, its like an easy version of 8bit Doves and similar to Pigs Cant Fly but no funny story here.
