Wasn't there a rumor not too long ago about being able to cancel lag by dashing, attacking, or shielding moments after the move starts? Did that get deconfirmed?

If D1 is right, then I could see a lot of potential with it to buff up low tiers but mainly depend on their normal attacks (running, tilt, jab, smash and aerial) but if special moves helps those characters out then I would allow that.

However, I can't really see it happens in first year. They probably need to figure out what made the characters good or not before they decided to standard the custom move sets for the characters.

But the first year is when things are going to be the largely experimental phase, anyway. I don't think there would be a better time but that first year to really get a handle on just what is possible with all of the characters' moves.

I mean, if other fighting games that have had "Grooves/Isms/Styles" and the like (not to mention MKX coming out early next year) are able to work through most of this stuff in their first year, why can't Smash do similar?

I don't get why, though. I expected that from the beginning. Why wouldn't it be there? And it being right there in the character select screen means nothing for tournament play. Every single stage is right there in the stage select, still a majority of them are banned. Seeing as customization is off by default in the "For Glory" mode (that's correct, isn't it?) it may already say something about it's potential to fuck up the balance. It will be evaluated once the game is out and the tournament scene might as well go with the same rules.

You can only have custom moves with matches against friends unfortunately =/

Just watch when custom movesets are overpowered.

then you could easily just ban a move, which is much better than banning a whole character.

I just hope we see what moves an opponent chooses beforehand. I don't want the first 30 seconds of a match to be trying to figure out what they have.

Kinda bummed to hear Mega Man isnt super great right now. Still gonna play my first match with him just cause he is Mega Man in a smash game!

Pauletina being a Tank sounds good...but with custom moves.
Greninja being fun is good news as well.

Yeah, or that, thanks. Mixed it up but the outcome is ultimately the same.

I mean.. It's hard enough to balance out ~50 characters as it is. I really don't think that too much thought about deep balancing issues were put into the extra two variations of every single special attack as much as into the standard specials. And I wouldn't blame them for it.

I could deal with Falcon's FAir, as long as he's buffed. Do we have any more information on him? Need some good news after hearing about Diddy's nerf lol

Such a beautiful game. I also want to say it's much better appreciated on the larger 3DS. It's actually kinda hard to even see your character on the regular 3DS, I was a bit disappointed by that, although I have a larger 3DS, I'm a little concerned for how regular 3DS users will feel about the game when they see that their screen makes them a bit tiny.
Nooooooo~

Fuck Nintendo release a demo I need to see myself

Wow. You'd think this apology video would do more damage than her being seen in public with a boyfriend, since it makes the theater's management look absolutely fucking insane.

Okay I refused to google this yesterday in order to remain ignorant of disturbing stuff like this... thanks internet

I wish they'd release a demo of some sort for us westerners waiting while the Japanese play their wonderful game.

I'd even take Mario only with only battlefield, and an unlockable FD Battlefield.

Would love a Mario, Samus, Kirby, Link on Battlfield, with unlockable FD Battlefield and Mega Man though. Would be the greatest.

Not sure about that comment, personally.

I played, and enjoyed it on the OG 3DS.

Like, I had no issues with size once you're used to it.

I can promise that much, but maybe he felt it was small due to already being accustomed to an XL?

This game is rammed up the ass with content.

612 moves to determine banned or not.

It's too bad you're not able to use them with randoms. I really don't see why they'd bother putting them in but then limit them from what will be the most played game mode. Same with the Miis. I don't hate them, but there's no point in me actually playing as them since I can't use them online.

That shit is random (same item can have different stats) and therefore just about anyone agreees it should be banned

Doesn't mean it won't be fun as hell to play with.
Plus, we've seen very little of it. Who knows? Maybe some sort of metagame will develop around it.

Only in "With Anyone" mode, with friends you can customize things.

Man i originally thought that only the 3rd custom move off of each set was locked to friends only :(

I assume with everyone saying all custom moves are locked off online that its more of that and I mis-heard/read.

Can I at least use custom moves online with friends? I'll probably be doing that a lot anyways.

EDIT: er, the answer beat my question! thanks rekameohs!

Yes, and I will spend 99% of my time with the game in With Anyone mode (assuming the online isn't complete shit like it was in Brawl.). Custom moves and the Mii's are completely useless to me.

don't forget custom equipment that changes stats.

For real?

Holy fuck, this game is loaded. Shit.

I wonder if each piece of equipment is predetermined in stats, like the stickers were, or if they have random stats upon spawning.

So far, equipment has been pretty darn generic, but then, you get some for doing challenges, so maybe they are predetermined.

That's my one major disappointment so far. Equipment have generic icons, generic names, and are not part of a nintendo game :/

Run Speed Up Banana? What?

Oh that's good then, I've had an regular 3ds for a while so I'm pretty use to the screen, so I hope it turns out alright

Nah, it played fine for me. 3D makes it even more accessible.

I get it may be a bit hard at first, but I never had a match where I felt "where the fuck am I?" other than my first match.

Try and trust me on this one.

From what I heard that his knee of justice is pretty good but only bad thing about it is landing lag. I "might" think it's reasonable nerf so people wouldn't spamming the knee. Basically you have to make sure that you got your timing right and land it on the opponent accurately as possible.

It's not that it won't be fun to play, what makes the equipment unfit for competitive play is the random nature of their stats. Just image M2K getting dropped an equipment with an ultra strong mix of extra ablities and stats fitting his playstyle. No one else can compensate for it since they don't get dropped an equipment with the abilities and stats they'd need to counter M2K.

Unlike custom moves equipment aren't the same for every competitor, that's why they will be banned.

Would it ultimately be better to buy an XL, though? I was considering that but now I'm not sure I want to spend $100+ on another 3DS just because my current 3DS' screen is small...

Hmm.. I expect that banana to be only equipable by DK/ Diddy.

Creating unique icons for each equipment would take a lot of time :p I mean, Mario uses gloves, overalls and boots, DK somehow uses bananas.. One icon for each equipment type may be already well over 100 icons :p

i don't think items are a good comparison. I think, in this case, Pokemon is a more fair comparison. In Pokemon, you can get ultra rare pokemon with great stats if you're lucky, and if you play well, you can just destroy with them. Likewise, if you got an ultrarare stat boosting item, you'd always have it to use in your matches-and likewise, someone else would always have whichever ultra rare ones they got.
