Super Smash Bros. for 3DS & Wii U Thread XV: Kübler-Ross Edition

Shulk only having recolors and the swimsuit is a waste of potential since he had various alt armors in Xenoblade.

You could say that about everyone who changes clothes or suits (paging toxi). There's only so much time and resources before you're taking away from something else in the game.

D1 getting confused about how to pronounced Monado.

Shulk only having recolors and the swimsuit is a waste of potential since he had various alt armors in Xenoblade.
You could say every character is a waste of potential when they don't get a bunch of different models for their different representations, but that would be silly. It is silly to say it for Shulk, too. He is lucky he got anything.

MOH-NAH-DOE...right? Right?
Right.

Please tell me he pronounced it like potato

please

He did, he started saying it right but someone said that was wrong so he started saying "Monaydo." Then everyone started correcting him again and he was like whatever, and went back to saying it right.

I'm really disappointed Alph made it in as half of Olimar's recolors. Not only does Olimar lose some of his alt colors, but loses some of his character as well. He's not "Olimar + Pikmin" if half the time it's not even Olimar!

I have a question. If characters are deem to be overpowered in Smash 3DS, would they balance the characters before the game went Gold for Wii U?

My Brawl mains were Marth, Diddy and Wolf.

Marth is apparently nerfed quite drastically.
Diddy's banana game has been killed.
Wolf is cut.

Welp. Better hope Samus is decent this time.

Ugggggh, those were two of my mains. Wonder how Lucina going to be like. And if Fox is really is weaker than in brawl then forget him.:/ Well least Ike seems to be fine in this.

Assume Lucina will be worse, Sakurai basically said they function the same aside from Lucina not having tippers. Supposedly Marth struggles to KO even WITH tippers, plus there is the nerfed range. If Lucina really is the same aside from that I can't see her being anything but terrible. Hopefully Sakurai was just referring to her attacks/animations and not the actual specific details.

By the time anyone actually figures out who is overpowered, it'll be too late. Unless it's SUPER evident day 1 that someone is BROKEN, like, 100% win rate broken, there's no way. It would have to be something sakurai and team already know about, basically, and didn't have time to fix it for 3DS release.

No, he's not. Half the time he's Alph + Pikmin. ;^D
The name changes.

Wolf is probably cut but it's ridiculous how everyone's basing this off of how Fox has a Wolf-like alt. I guess Wario is cut because of Mario's costume, right?
And Ridley because of Charizard. :^P

Not necessarily. Sometimes changes are in the pipeline, but don't get implemented. MvC3 and UMvC3 both received small balance patches after their release dates.

Apparently sweetspot Uair with Yoshi has electric effects...? Not sure if he's just describing it incorrectly or what because that sounds really unbelievable and strange. He also said Yoshi's Usmash is as strong as Fox's from Melee. o_O (For reference, Fox's Usmash can KO most characters under 100% in Melee).

Awww Yeaahhh!!!

It's about time my main got some decent buffs.

The name changes.[/SPOILER]

Still, it doesn't sit well with me. I like the fact that every character so far has stayed in character with their alternate costumes. It's a shame that not only is Olimar so far the only character to have this, but he gets half as many colors as everyone else.

Maybe there will be more colors in the Wii U version.

A month or two is way too small a lifespan to declare anyone overpowered in a fighting game. You need like at least 6 months of high-level play before you really know what's what.

Take a look at the tier lists during the first week of a game and then again at them a year or two later, and you'll see that a lot of early assumptions end up not being true.

Rebalancing as a knee-jerk reaction is bad for fighting games. They need time to thoroughly understand what is and isn't broken about a character before any action is taken.

But if it's something like an inescapable infinite combo or whatever then yeah that'll probably get patched.

And he gets no alternate colors at all!

And he gets no alternate colors at all!

Well, the clown car changes color to coordinate with whatever Koopaling is inside it, if we're going off that one trophy that was shown in the leak. It had blue coloring instead of green. The other ones are probably the same way, matching to the kid inside it.

I hope Roy's gets sunglasses and Morton's gets a big star over one eye.

Nah, I understand what you're saying. Why does Little Mac's wireframe get 8 alts while Olimar and Alph only get four each? Interesting design choices there.

Again, where is the proof that Wolf was cut?

There is none at this point in time. Only conjecture.

And he gets no alternate colors at all!

56 Koopalings/Bowser Jr. alt colors coming as DLC! Heard it here first! :^P

Eh would there be any point of Fox having a wolf like alt, if the actual Wolf was in?:P

The odds of either version of the game getting a patch at some point is quite high, I imagine. Whether or not it is used to balance the game is another matter, though.

It would be like Mario getting Wario and Luigi colors or it could be like Peach getting Daisy colors. Depends on how you look at it. If he is not in, it was so he was at least there in spirit or it could just be there as a little bonus.

I be surprise if they don't have a way to make up for the lack of tippers.

It sounds like it's actually just 8 costumes, but then the Wireframe 'skin' is applied to 7 of them so they're reused a second time. And then the final skin is the pink tracksuit (which was modeled for his intro animation so they might as well use it for an alt anyway).

That's the only way it makes sense to me. Wireframe Mac is using the same alt colors as normal Mac, but they're just swapping out the skin texture for the wireframe beneath those clothes.

Given Sakurai's recent EDGE essay, I think they'll go by a different method in determining how to balance the game.

Tier lists and character inbalances that can only be noticed at high-levels of play is something he's not interested in.

I'm sure they'll fix some bugs with patches, maybe add some minor features like people asked them to do with Mario Kart 8, but rebalancing is probably something they'll only touch if they have to.

And any balance stuff would probably end up being rolled into whatever major patches they release to support DLC later on- which, from what we've seen with Mario Kart 8, might come a looooong time after the game's release.

I know Wolf's gone, but I'm holding on 'till the bitter end dammit.

Probably because Little Mac's wireframe costume requires a value change only.

Probably.

That makes sense. Hard to tell without images of the alts
dammit Nintendo
but that sounds 'right'.

I suspect it's to reference him because he's not in, but it isn't a full on alt so that they can later make him DLC.

Those are my
actual
feelings as well. I think if Wolf was truly cut he'd be in as an Alph or Koopalings like alt for Fox. Not doing so leaves him available for
the inevitable
DLC.

Between the leaked roster not having Wolf and now Fox's new alt colour...I think he's gone.

I'm starting to come to terms with and accept that the leaked roster is the entire roster too.

So I don't really know what these demos are but why isn't there any video when we've got gifs of Captain Falcon?

I be surprise if they don't have a way to make up for the lack of tippers.

Presumably the lack of sour spots would make up for it. And maybe slightly stronger attacks than Marth's average since hers don't vary based on where she hits with her sword (would probably depend on the attack).

I'd like her to be good if Marth is not, since I've been using Marth at least as a secondary since Melee. I'm just not counting on it.
