Fucks yeah! After you read some, give an update here. Casanova has that passionate Fraction that's bursting through in every page of Sex Criminals, and you can tell how important and personal the book is to him.

I read through it all last year at this time, and as I was reading it I thought "this should be one of my favorite books ever" and was bummed when it didn't blow me away. But between the Chabon backups and him generally being cool as hell, it's earned a second shot.

Sex Criminals is a good book. My favorite moment in the book so far.

I just read the first issue of the Five Ghosts TPB I picked up from the library. This is really great stuff!
The story seems like a really neat Indiana Jones-ish story with the twist that this guy gets certain powers from five ghosts that dwell within him.
The thing that impressed me most though is the art. Christopher Mooneyham's art is like a combination of Aja, Francavilla, and Stokely and I totally love it. It doesn't seem like he's done art for much else yet, but I really hope he gets picked up for some bigger stuff in the future because he is really great.

This also makes me realize how many amazing comics Image is putting out right now, because this seems to be a quality comic and even still it's completely overshadowed by all the other fantastic comics Image is putting out.

Love seeing more people getting into Sex Criminals. It's my fav Image book right now

Image gets barely anything IIRC. The split is solely up to the team itself. Its why Image kinda sucks if your not a megapro. You don't see any money until the book is on the stands and starts making some. For a new team, they're working for free for months in the hopes that the book catches on. Someone like Remender, I'm guessing, can just pay a Scalera up front with his Marvel money.

But yeah, guys, keeping asking the big two to stop increasing their prices. It will definitely have no impact on the rest of the industry. I'm sure Jason Aaron and Rick Remender will continue to prefinance awesome Image books with their no money after the big two fold.

Go team comics!
They can go ahead. More reason to drop them entirely!

I saw him walking around, but didn't go to his table. He only signed for like an hour and was charging for signatures at his own con. So lame.

That's very Rob Liefeld of him, but even The Rob only charges for shit like New Mutants 98

Nice impressions, this one is on my list of stuff to check out. I'd forgotten about it since, though.

Hey Kipp, you should search your library's catalog for some Junji Ito stuff. My local system actually has a few things that I've been dying to read. Including the hard to find Museum of Terrors (some of his best stuff, really). I know this isn't the manga thread but it just happened to come to me when you mentioned the library.

I feel sorry for you guys that have to go to big cons and wait in line forever. Cincy is a small con with some good talent. The biggest line was Fraction and at worse it was only 15 minuets long. For the most part, you could find creators by themselves at some points.

When we first got there, Ryan Browne was all by himself so my wife said she wanted to go get our stuff signed by him. So we went up and told him how much we liked the first issue and he was really cool. He then asked instead of signing it, if he could draw on it. Then I mentioned my friend is who got me to check the book out. Now my friend being Tim who I never met yet, but he is my friend. Ryan not knowing this, started asking me a bunch of questions about Tim and I finally had to admit that man, I really never met him, at the moment he was my "internet/comics" friend.

Now Ryan, being the weird guy that he is just wanted to go further down the rabbit hole and started asking me about if I was nervous and stuff about meeting Tim. Lol. You could really see him imagination at work through his words. It went on for like 10 minutes of just straight weird talk. It was funny and uncomfortable at the same time.

God Hates Astronauts.

But did you guys talk about Messi?

On a serious note:
The above is actually very serious
I've found that, depending on the artist/writer you can actually get some one on one time even with some of the more popular artists/writers. My last ECCC, me and my friends managed to chat up a number of artists in artist alley, for example; One friend had a vision quest to talk to and get signatures from anyone who had done anything related to Flashes Rogues, for example.

Should have asked me for my folder on Tim before you went. Would have avoided this entirety. Same goes for you Tim.

Did you mention me though?

One more note about Five Ghosts: The coloring is fantastic.
If Image ends up putting out an oversized hardcover of this book, I'm definitely going to pick it up.

And thanks for the suggestion! Just googled him and his art looks totally nuts. I love it.
I also didn't realize that he's the guy who did the art for Uzumaki (which I've read a lot of good things about in this thread). It seems one of my libraries does have Uzumaki, so I'll definitely see if I can pick that up sometime soon!

Haha. That's an awesome story.

I would love to take it if thats ok :D

I'll grab the code later today and send it your way.

One of the great things about cons is being able to meet up with people you wouldn't able to meet otherwise. I met one of my best online friends at SDCC and we had a blast.

Did you guys talk about Messi?

You guys keeps asking if we talked about you all, lol. Actually we didn't. Momma told me that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it all. Lol.

NYCC :(. Lines upon lines upon lines and guess what, here's some more fucking lines. And David Finch has a line that's an hour long, and Sean Murphy has a line that needs security.

It's kind of wack if you want to see everybody you meant to see, but it's all we got.

Haha. That's an awesome story.

The best thing about Ito is his writing. His art is insane for sure, but the stories are just out of this world. Bizarre, surreal, creepy. He's the Japanese Lovecraft of manga in my opinion. Other than Ito, I don't follow much manga. Uzumaki is his masterpiece though.

Definitely check it out.

Soccer player.

Kipp said:
I think he's some footballer. Why would Korupt talk to Browne about football/soccer though?

Edit: So beaten

Why would we talk about a soccer player? I don't even like soccer.

After reading your story Korupt, Browne going "So you're that guy!" to me when you walked up makes a lot more sense now. Haha.

Come to Cincy next year, we can have a best of Comic GAF meet up.

I think the brilliant part of God Hates Astronauts is that they are telling a great Sci-Fi story with a layer of intentional crap and low brow humor.

I'm not super far away, so I may go next year.

I got you, Korupt. I got you.
My rule is call me Zombine here, because of creepy ass lurkers, but call me my name outside of the forum.

Well that's to be expected. Once you get to know someone more personally there's no reason to address them by their username everywhere.

I, too, met an online friend that I've been actively talking to for the past 10+ years spanning some previous video game forums we browsed together. We first met at SDCC 2011 and have made it a yearly tradition to meet up. As a matter of fact, we've shared hotel rooms the past two years and plan to do so next year when/if we meet again. We even text from time to time and still play online games with one another.

Elektra #5

So is this book getting cancelled soon? Because the first arc was enjoyable and I was going to keep picking up single issues thereafter. But if it's getting cancelled anyway, I might just trade wait the second arc. Issue #5 wraps up the stories of Bloody Lips/Cape Crow and sets it up for the next villain Elektra will face:
Lady Bullseye
. The art looks great and the colors are so damn good. I didn't like how
Bloody Lips was defeated. Sure, he was able to sample more of Elektra's blood but it drove him crazy and off a cliff
! When the trade is released, I would give a recommendation for anyone to give this a shot. Not for Elektra but for Bloody Lips.

I do have a Marvel digital for Elektra #5. First person to reply requesting it gets it.

I think my name is listed on PSN. Don't really care lol. I think the funny part would be finding out how the personalities here translate to the real world.

You got PM.

And just to clarify my spoilers above, Bloody Lips
didn't jump off the cliff himself. He was rendered immobilize by Elektra's blood because he's seen the crazy shit she's gone through. Elektra gave him, what I believe to be, a swift kick to head that knocks him over the edge.
Still looks cool though.

Awesome! I'm sold. I'm really looking forward to reading it!
Unfortunately the library is closed today, but I'll probably stop by tomorrow to pick it up.

My rule is call me Zombine here, because of creepy ass lurkers, but call me my name outside of the forum.

Wait, so you're saying your real name isn't Zombine? Now I'm doubting everything I once thought to be true...

My real name actually is Kipp though, so that keeps things simple.

After reading your story Korupt, Browne going "So you're that guy!" to me when you walked up makes a lot more sense now. Haha.

Haha. That's awesome that he put two and two together like that.

Nice! I met my friend in 2011 too. He let me stay at his place for a week in 2012 before SDCC again and we went up together that year. I haven't been to a con since then but I have a lot of friends who go to the cons down here like MegaCon or whatever. Maybe next year I'll try to go to one since I have a friend who drives up to Tampa every year for one.

I dunno. I can't imagine your real name being any more awesome than going up to you and being like, 'Sup Tyrant?" In fact, your real name would probably just be a massive disappointment.

It's funny you say that since I always get comments about my name at work and at restaurants and stuff. My name's Gian-Carlo and everyone assumes I'm from another country or something and when I tell them that I've lived in Florida my whole life they look a little disappointed lol

Anyways, comics: I started Animal Man last night. I only read one issue before I went to bed but I really enjoyed the family dynamic Buddy has going on. It really brings him down to earth a bit and makes him pretty relatable. I know I'm gonna love this.

So obviously you had to have the one name that could possibly rival Tyrant.

I've given some thought to checking out Animal Man myself. I normally consider him kind of a stupid character (in concept) but I've been enjoying him in JLU so I might just take the plunge.

Just finished Five Ghosts vol. 1.
That was a really great read. Fast-paced, fun, and exciting.
In tone, I'd say it's pretty similar to Francavilla's The Black Beetle with their pulp style (although the plots/premises of the books are very different).
Especially since it's only $5 for the first trade, I'd highly, highly recommend picking it up if you haven't read it yet.

I can't remember for sure, but you're not really into Morrison's more out there stuff, right?
If not, you should avoid Animal Man. It's definitely not just a standard superhero type story. I personally loved it, but if you don't like Morrison, this won't change your mind.

Like GH said, I would never have expected your real name to live up to a username as exciting as "Tyrant Rave," but your name pulls it off. Haha. What do your friends call you though? Do they call you Gian-Carlo?

And regarding Animal Man, just like the beginning of Doom Patrol was, you ain't seen nothin' yet. You're in for a wild and awesome ride.
But yeah, that family dynamic is really great.

Is it really?! That's awesome. You have like one half of a News Reporter/Porn Star name.

Thanks! I think. Haha

Well, I kind of do.

Is Bomb a family name?

I am Brian. I gave a sexy beard and I like Harley Quinn. ASL?

Next time you give a sexy beard, can I have it? I can't grow a decent beard at all.

You all use your real names here right?

Shit

Pretty much. Cheska is short for Francesca, and it's what a lot of people found easier to call me. It's certainly better than Fran or Franny
which my mother in law insists on calling me :P She's about the only person who can get away with it lol
