Fucks yeah! After you read some, give an update here. Casanova has that passionate Fraction that's bursting through in every page of Sex Criminals, and you can tell how important and personal the book is to him.

I read through it all last year at this time, and as I was reading it I thought "this should be one of my favorite books ever" and was bummed when it didn't blow me away. But between the Chabon backups and him generally being cool as hell, it's earned a second shot.

I just read the first issue of the Five Ghosts TPB I picked up from the library. This is really great stuff!
The story seems like a really neat Indiana Jones-ish story with the twist that this guy gets certain powers from five ghosts that dwell within him.
The thing that impressed me most though is the art. Christopher Mooneyham's art is like a combination of Aja, Francavilla, and Stokely and I totally love it. It doesn't seem like he's done art for much else yet, but I really hope he gets picked up for some bigger stuff in the future because he is really great.

This also makes me realize how many amazing comics Image is putting out right now, because this seems to be a quality comic and even still it's completely overshadowed by all the other fantastic comics Image is putting out.

Image gets barely anything IIRC. The split is solely up to the team itself. Its why Image kinda sucks if your not a megapro. You don't see any money until the book is on the stands and starts making some. For a new team, they're working for free for months in the hopes that the book catches on. Someone like Remender, I'm guessing, can just pay a Scalera up front with his Marvel money.

But yeah, guys, keeping asking the big two to stop increasing their prices. It will definitely have no impact on the rest of the industry. I'm sure Jason Aaron and Rick Remender will continue to prefinance awesome Image books with their no money after the big two fold.

Hey Kipp, you should search your library's catalog for some Junji Ito stuff. My local system actually has a few things that I've been dying to read. Including the hard to find Museum of Terrors (some of his best stuff, really). I know this isn't the manga thread but it just happened to come to me when you mentioned the library.

I feel sorry for you guys that have to go to big cons and wait in line forever. Cincy is a small con with some good talent. The biggest line was Fraction and at worse it was only 15 minuets long. For the most part, you could find creators by themselves at some points.

When we first got there, Ryan Browne was all by himself so my wife said she wanted to go get our stuff signed by him. So we went up and told him how much we liked the first issue and he was really cool. He then asked instead of signing it, if he could draw on it. Then I mentioned my friend is who got me to check the book out. Now my friend being Tim who I never met yet, but he is my friend. Ryan not knowing this, started asking me a bunch of questions about Tim and I finally had to admit that man, I really never met him, at the moment he was my "internet/comics" friend.

Now Ryan, being the weird guy that he is just wanted to go further down the rabbit hole and started asking me about if I was nervous and stuff about meeting Tim. Lol. You could really see him imagination at work through his words. It went on for like 10 minutes of just straight weird talk. It was funny and uncomfortable at the same time.

I've found that, depending on the artist/writer you can actually get some one on one time even with some of the more popular artists/writers. My last ECCC, me and my friends managed to chat up a number of artists in artist alley, for example; One friend had a vision quest to talk to and get signatures from anyone who had done anything related to Flashes Rogues, for example.

I also didn't realize that he's the guy who did the art for Uzumaki (which I've read a lot of good things about in this thread). It seems one of my libraries does have Uzumaki, so I'll definitely see if I can pick that up sometime soon!

The best thing about Ito is his writing. His art is insane for sure, but the stories are just out of this world. Bizarre, surreal, creepy. He's the Japanese Lovecraft of manga in my opinion. Other than Ito, I don't follow much manga. Uzumaki is his masterpiece though.

Definitely check it out.

So is this book getting cancelled soon? Because the first arc was enjoyable and I was going to keep picking up single issues thereafter. But if it's getting cancelled anyway, I might just trade wait the second arc. Issue #5 wraps up the stories of Bloody Lips/Cape Crow and sets it up for the next villain Elektra will face:

Nice! I met my friend in 2011 too. He let me stay at his place for a week in 2012 before SDCC again and we went up together that year. Just finished Five Ghosts vol. 1.
That was a really great read. Fast-paced, fun, and exciting.
In tone, I'd say it's pretty similar to Francavilla's The Black Beetle with their pulp style (although the plots/premises of the books are very different).
Especially since it's only $5 for the first trade, I'd highly, highly recommend picking it up if you haven't read it yet.

I've given some thought to checking out Animal Man myself. I normally consider him kind of a stupid character (in concept) but I've been enjoying him in JLU so I might just take the plunge.

I can't remember for sure, but you're not really into Morrison's more out there stuff, right?
If not, you should avoid Animal Man. It's definitely not just a standard superhero type story. I personally loved it, but if you don't like Morrison, this won't change your mind.
