The amount of content sakurai would have to add to make smash appeal to everyone would mean that it would be in development for 10 years and cost more money than they could ever make back. He has to pick and choose, and It has to be way more stressful for him to KNOW all the things fans want but not be able to add them all because of lack of unlimited time and money.
I missed this back when you originally posted it, but yeah, well said. I legitimately feel bad for Sakurai; he has gone on the record saying how deciding who stays in, who gets added into, and who gets kicked out of each Smash roster causes him enough anxiety to regularly lose sleep, and I believe it. The man is one of the most passionate game developers there's ever been, and he obviously doesn't want to disappoint anyone. But naturally Smash fans can be utterly ruthless and you can't please everyone, and he knows that anyone he disappoints is going to take it personally and be as horrible as they can to him about it.
He's basically saying the trophy theory doesn't make sense and isn't proof of anything.
Ah, got it. Thanks!
How can you compare those? Ridley has been in most Metroid games as an awesome boss (He's pretty much Metroid's Ganon) and people wanted him (and believed him in) since melee.
I don't think there is an obssession with K Rool, he just makes sense to appear, tho in my opinion as a boss.
Geno is your valid point, I don't know either how he got so much fans voting for him for Smash Bros, and I like him too.
Eh, I wasn't really comparing them. I was just saying that I
personally never understood the fervor behind having Ridley, K. Rool, and Geno in Smash, and I don't. If you want to actually compare them, sure, I certainly agree that of the three, Ridley is the most important and prominent character in his series (though I'd argue that in the grand scheme of Nintendo lore and characters, Ridley and K. Rool are about equal in terms of importance/relevance). But despite all that, I just don't see the hype behind having Ridley in Smash. Again, that's
personally; there are no doubt just as many people out there who would go (and have gone), "Mega Man? Why should I care about him and why does he deserve to be in Smash?" and that's fine. Everyone has their preferences!
My respect for you has dropped somewhat after the bolded statement.
While Wii Fit Trainer was a surprise for us, it's not as if no one had ever guessed them before. Even Sakurai didn't speak in absolutes when he brought her up:
"
... pretty much no one imagined this character would join the battle."
There were some people who predicted her, no matter how umcommon they are. There are almost no characters out there who haven't gotten a character request.
I'm not saying this to discredit the leak, I'm saying this because speaking in absolutes like "literally no one ever thought of this" just makes you sound bad. Nothing is impossible.
Seriously, anyone defending the leaks needs to
chill the fuck out before saying
absolutely no one thought Wii Fit Trainer could be in.
And my ability to take your reply seriously dropped like a rock after I read the bolded statement. Unless you're completely kidding, I will never understand why anyone says things like this. You're a random dude on the Internet; why in the world should I care how much respect you have for me, and why would you even think that will keep me up at night? I'm more concerned about the fact that something as innocuous as an opinion about a video game leak would actually cause you to lose or gain respect for anyone, let alone me.
Anyway, you obviously read my post, so didn't you also see that I said "nearly if not literally?"
Nearly. Maybe I should have left out the "if not literally" part, but I said "nearly" and it still stands. It's nearly impossible that anyone could or would have correctly predicted Wii Fit Trainer.
It's so obvious the Gematsu leak is based on legitimate information (most likely from very early in development) it hurts, and it shocks me some people can't see that. To date, the Gematsu leak has gotten exactly one thing wrong: Chrom (and, if you want to be really nitpicky, the exact time of Shulk's reveal). From the Japanese demo event, we can now see how easily someone who's not personally familiar with
Fire Emblem: Awakening could have mistaken Chrom for being playable after seeing him in Robin's victory screen.
On the other hand, the Gematsu leak has gotten tons of things right, including things that would be, again,
unreasonably difficult and unlikely to specifically guess: Wii Fit Trainer, the specific Mii Fighter name, Shulk (hindsight bias tells us he was an obvious newcomer, but in reality he really, REALLY wasn't obvious at all), and - yes, I'm going there - Mega Man. Yeah, everyone knows he's been Smash's most-requested newcomer after Sonic, but at the time that Smash 4's development was ramping up, Capcom had all but killed Mega Man and made it crystal clear that they gave zero fucks about how much the fans wanted him back in any way, let alone in a new game. So Mega Man wasn't exactly an incredibly risky prediction, but neither was he an obvious shoo-in.
The last remaining piece of the Gematsu puzzle is the Chorus Kids. If they're not in the final roster, that'll make two major things Gematsu has gotten wrong -- IF they're not eventually added as DLC, which I believe is a very strong possibility if they're not in the roster already. The first major thing it got wrong - Chrom - can be very easily explained away now, so there's really less reason than ever to doubt that the Gematsu leak was and is legit.
So again, at the end of it all, we come to the same old adage: 90% correct = 100% incorrect. It's ludicrous.
lol hardly....
and to be fair,. the other side of the argument is that he's not automatically legit just because he got some things right. Chorus Kids? Chrom? Shulk reveal? He was wrong...multiple times...whether he was legit or not, you can't be that one-sided.
Whoa, you're being hasty. We cannot definitively say that Gematsu has gotten the Chorus Kids wrong yet, and we won't be able to for some time. If they're not in the final roster, they could still be on deck for DLC, and that's something we won't be able to verify either way for awhile yet.
