That's why I hate situational luck-based achievements. Bungie loved them for Halo and they drove me crazy then as well.

Yep. I don't know if it's part of the achievements but as far as medals go I'm not sure how I'm going to find and kill someone with a 10 kill streak.

I've always loved Bungie stories and the idea of diving into a new one was one of the main reasons I was so hyped for Destiny. So disappointing to hear this one is awful. :(

Gonna need a retailer and purchase date on that guide, champ.
There ya go

I just picked this up but cant check it out until tonight after work. I only bought it because of all the hype, doesnt look great to me but I hope I enjoy it.

My question is which character are you guys enjoying the most? I saw a video on the Titan last night and he looked pretty fun, I did not play the beta which I should have.

For those who adored the beta/alpha, how is it so far?

- difficulty seems slightly higher.
- I like the way they nerfed the rifles. At first I thought: of course, you put PvP in a game like this and this is the result. But the way they work now (more recoil, less damage, less accuracy) is how they should have from the start.
- 1080 p on the Bone, thank you Bungie, no slowdown (actually, more fluid than the beta). It wasn't necessary, but absolutely welcome.
- servers seem to be heavily restricted. I've played with all sorts of people in the beta (Spanish, English, French, what have you) now there's only Italians and the Tower is half-empty (shall I say, half-full?).
- handcannons now work like you'd expect from their names. They tear the Oratorio Tangrams apart.
- loading times seems different: slower to start (the ship just stands there for a couple seconds more) faster to end.

The only real problem for me are the constant disconnects.

Wait, so under what conditions should you dismantle something? I saw someone say something about "green"?

And is every area on earth (and I'm assuming the ort planets are like this too) separate? Can I not walk from one area to another, I have to pick the area from the Tower?

Seems like Destiny is impervious to criticism.

Story's not good ---> Doesn't matter, no one plays these games for the stories.
Mission structure is boring ---> It's an MMO, it's supposed to be boring.
World feels empty ---> It's launch, they'll fix it later, don't worry.

lol I haven't made any of those statements, not even close, and I've been singing the game's praises up and down in this thread

Four hours later, I'm level 8 and I still can't beat The Last Array. Well done Destiny, you've bested me on like the fifth mission.

So what are the main complaints so far?
Story presentation, mission design being repetitive, total number of singleplayer locations, limited "MMO" scope (lack of communication tools for random interaction)

So early in the game, I feel like I had to "predict" my impressions, but there are some things that are obvious...

I think it's going to be very easy for plenty of people to look past the flaws and not so easy for others. Whether or not the package is worth it to you in terms of individual value will come down to what you want out of the experience. If stuff that I consider ancillary like a strong narrative and "heavy MMO" elements are really important to you in this sort of game, then it's probably not going to win you over. The gameplay feels very polished and tuned, controls are great, moment-to-moment gameplay is hella fun, character progression is addicitive, natural multiplayer elements are unobtrusive and seamless. I'd describe what is presented here so far as "a very good start," to a gameplay base, to a new franchise, a new style of psuedo-persistent multiplayer. It is very obviously built to be expanded on in chunks over the long haul. It doesn't have the feature sets of an established sequel (though compared to something like Titanfall it does offer way more for the asking price).

Here's an example. You can take on a couple of bounties at the tower, wander out, run into a random or two and start an open mission, culminating in a fight where you might wind up saving or reviving each other before a close victory. This is very "surface" stuff, equivalent to MMORPG questing, you're not advancing the story or seriously testing your skills. But of course, you are shooting aliens in the face and boosting around on a hoverbike and double-jumping on downed airplanes. If the actual play experience of doing this kind of thing feels fun for you, you'll probably love this game, and get an enormous amount from the more advanced content. If it strikes you as boring or grindy then it probably won't win you over.

I expect it to be very highly reviewed because it's a strong foundation and the gameplay is so tight. But in terms of quality of content, I feel like you kind of need to experience the Vault of Glass, which means getting to the point where you're able to do the Vault of Glass, and literally no one can comment on that yet (it doesn't even unlock until the 16th). I imagine they put a lot of design work into this "raid" and it probably represents the effort they are likely to put into expanding the game as well. But absolutely no one can tell you how worthwhile it is yet.

So for now you have to sort of decide if the moment-to-moment core gameplay feels fun enough to you to make the game worth playing. For me that's an easy yes even solo, and it only improves playing with others.

I will say that if you don't plan to PvP (which so far seems very well tuned and up to Bungie's pedigree to me) at all, the value of the game overall is definitely reduced.

Turrible story, repetitive mission structure and unbalanced PvP are the big ones I keep seeing.
I don't think saying the PvP is unbalanced is fair, let alone this early. hopping into the Crucible at level 5, I played matches until I hit level 7 and they felt quite close from a team vs. team sense, and I didn't feel like I was being invalidated by high-level/geared players at all.

I'm not sure if these are people who like the Halo stories who are saying that Destiny has a terrible story or not. I can see a lot of people coming from Playstation hating the Halo stories in comparison to Uncharted or The Last of Us etc. Would be interesting to hear comparisons made by people who like the in game Halo stories.

I do not own the game so bear that in mind with my response, but I did play plenty of the beta and will base my response on that experience. First of all. I kind of detest the fact that people place Uncharted or the Last of Us on some entirely different level in terms of storytelling compared to something like Halo. I know a lot of people will say that I am completely wrong, but I feel the Halo stories are incredibly good and, barring some of bungie's technical problems with presentation (halo 3 faces, Halo 2 texture loads...ugh), were very well told. I especially consider Halo 2 and ODST to be some of the most incredible and unique presentations of story in gaming (again, looking past bungie's tech and focusing on actual narrative).

That aside, from what I played in the beta, I did not feel like Destiny held up well against Halo's storytelling. As many others have said the world seemed fascinating, but I felt completely disconnected from the story because the characters never reacted to the events of the story or even my character in any significant manner. Even in terms of connecting gameplay to story it felt really awkward to do a mission and then go to a random vendor to get loot rewards, all the while not having the vendor acknowledge anything that you just did.

So is the story actually BAD or is it simply poorly told? It sounds like they simply don't do much with it.

That one mission on the Moon where you
find that sword you can wield to tear shit up was pretty fun. Those 3 boss guys were pretty tough though!

To anyone else that got the digital guardian edition, are you able to download the expansion pass activation?
I preloaded on XBO without any issues. Signed in this morning before work and everything popped up as ready. It was pretty amazing actually, if it released at 12 instead of 3 it would've been extra amazing(not to beat a dead horse).

I think I'd say I can't really tell if it's bad- it's hard to follow. Still very early on but the delivery of it honestly has more in common with Monster Hunter or PSO than with Halo. It's not the game's strong suit.

I will have look a through the thread but I will just ask here too. Has anyone had any sound issues on the xbox one version? Like a tin/hum through speakers throughout the game? It seems to be only present when I have NOT got my headset connected to my pad. I can hear the hum, connect my headset it goes away, unplug it and it's back.
Tried different pad, hard reset, lots of options except reinstall, anyone else had this problem?
Just standard 2.1 tv speakers nothing fancy, all other games are fine and dashboard it's only destiny.
I had literally no sound this morning from that game/app, system sounds were fine. Closed the game and restarted it, fixed the problem.

I might be the minority here but I was having a blast last night playing the same area I've played three or four times already. Something about this game just clicks with me. I love it.
