I've already made a post pointing out that opinions are vastly divided, but yeah, I think that Google screen looks really garish and shitty. Stands out way too much on a watch to have half a person's face and the rest of it white. Prefer Apple's black/subtle screens.

It's because everyone is scrambling and only understands mobile. We need more research in passive screen types like ePaper, eInk, Mirasol, electrowetting etc. Nobody wants to view pictures on a watch, high contrast color isn't necessary, battery and outdoor viewing is. A good smartwatch is simple, it passively give you information and requires little interaction. Both this and Android Wear are feature bloated distractions, they aren't hitting the basics and it's sad. Ecosystem lock is pretty shitty too.

It's like going after the eBook market with tablets. Maybe it's serviceable, but it's terrible compared to a smarter, more-focused eReader.

This is an excellent analogy, Android Wear and Apple Watch are to watches what iPad and Android Tablets are to ebooks.
