Requires an iPhone? Should come with the damn phone then. For free.
$349 device should come with $500 device for free.
What a great suggestion.

I'm confused by the name too, surely it has to be a 'something' edition. It's a not a Watch Edition, because then that would be an Apple Watch: Watch Edition.Wait, the third type is called the Apple Watch Edition? What does that even mean?

The iPhone doesn't even need to be $500 to begin with, does it? I'm pretty sure Apple isn't selling them at a loss. An unlocked iPhone should not be $500.
I don't know... isn't that just a 1-bit digitizer? The screen technology seems awesome, with the ability to sense pressure.
Why, when there's *plenty* of demand for it at the current price, would they price it 50% lower? The iPhone doesn't even need to be $500 to begin with, does it? I'm pretty sure Apple isn't selling them at a loss. An unlocked iPhone should not be $500. More like $300.

This feels like Apple's first really big misstep in a good while.
Knowing GAF we're probably all wrong and this is going to be a massive hit.
This is going to be a flop.

I don't think so. People do not want to wear watches. Period. This feels like Apple's first really big misstep in a good while.

This certainly looks like a first iteration would.
apple has a certain type of following though that will buy anything they put out. apple could release the iplug where they put a buttplug in their ass that vibrates whenever they get a text and I can grantee you it will be a hit. obviously I'm exaggerating but what I'm saying isn't too far off from the fact that it's mainly being purchased for the name and satisfaction more-so than the practicality of the device.
How incredibly... mundane.
This is going to be a flop.
At $350 I feel that Apple is pushing that brand loyalty pretty far though.
The only thing more saddening than apple fanboys is apple haters.apple has a certain type of following though that will buy anything they put out. apple could release the iplug where you put their buttplug in your ass and it vibrates whenever you get a text and I can grantee you that will be a hit. obviously I'm exaggerating but what I'm saying isn't too far off from the fact that it's mainly being purchased for the name and satisfaction more-so than the practicality of the device.

Yeh, except the iPad didn't need a different $350 device to actually function. They were all but saying that about the iPad too.

Indeed, indeed.I don't see haters camping outside for smartphones. I think it's quite clear who's worse
...wait, it's not even called the iWatch?
This will fail. Not because people don't need it - many unnecessary electronics sell well. It will fail because a watch is primarily a individualized fashion statement, so you will look like a tool wearing it. I honestly believe they needed a minimum of 5 distinct varieties for this to become extremely popular. I personally wanted it to look like this:

I still remember the early debates and warnings about having RF antennas/wi-fi too close to human skin, being exposed constantly.
All those studies and debates have died down and now we will start to wear those devices directly on the skin, radiating constantly and communicating with other devices we also carry around.
During a tech conference I once overheard a guy from a giant mobile/wi-fi/broadband corp doing smalltalk that went like this: "we basically make a giant field test on our society currently, we might sacrifice this generation but humans will probably grow immune to it in the long term.
Will this be the new smoking in 50 years?

The amt of android fanboy salt in this thread omg.
Thing actually looks useful unlike the shit we've seen so far.
Yeah, that's what I don't get about some of the applications of a smart watch. Status messages and quick replies? I get that. Even navigation I can get behind. But looking at a map or photos if a phone is a necessary companion? The time it takes to get the phone out of your pockets is easily made up by not having to deal with turning knobs and such, apart from the whole much bigger screen thing. Why would I waste my time turning a knob to view things on a miniature screen when I can just pull my phone out?
No, I agree with you is what my post meant after going to the Verge and checking the new article list.
One of the sensors on the watch just takes a blood sample from you.Serious question. If you pay using the Apple Watch do you just bypass the TouchID authentication or did I miss something?
This is the most surprising thing... they couldn't even get the name right.
Yeah sure, I just assumed this would be a whole new market. They sell enough iPhones that I don't think that's a big concern.
