So far I'm lvl 14 and I'm at venus. Gosh so many impressions and I don't know where to start, and I'm on cell phone so I won't go too much into detail.
I think the game so far has been consistently decent. Nothing that rocks my socks off except for sat Bungie feel in the core mechanics, music (come back Marty!) and cinematic cutscenes. It really does feel like the offspring of Halo Reach in many ways.
My complaints so far are how redundant and carelessly Patrol missions are implemented. I know this game is kind of an MMO but it's about time developers think more outside the box than to reuse the idea of Daily Quests that WoW started. It also bug's me how you have to retread the same parts of every map for every story mission. At lvl 14 I'm starting to get that deja vu feel I haven't had since DAII.
Don't get me wrong though, the game does not feel rushed, in fact it is super polished so far and I haven't encountered any glitches other than some connectivity issues. The only thing that seems to have fallen through the cracks is the way the game's content is spread out and the amount of content there is. It feels like the game is half as big in scope than it should have been.
Crucible is pretty darn good though. I'm having a blast with it, particularly Control.
Buy anyhoo. I think that about wraps it up for my first day impressions. One thing before I forget though: the story seems to suffer from some pretty wishy washy writing. I know this game does not sell itself on its story and I didn't expect it to raise eyebrows, but with the focus on cut scenes and all that you can't help but think maybe they should be went all-in or just reduce the plot to strictly text or lore, but I get this is a 2014 game and not something from 10 years ago. I think the writing is super corny though. Sometimes it takes itself too seriously and the next moment Peter Ghost Dinklage cracks an awkward joke with no emotion or levity in his voice whatsoever. I don't know what exactly what Bungie were aiming for with this clueless story, but all I can seem to think of is their E3 live demonstration which perfectly showed their perception of their audience. They must think we like this sort of overly archetypic babble too. They probably think its what gamers see as "cool" or something.
Dear lord. The writer for Destiny left to write Telltale's upcoming Game of Thrones adaptation. God please don't ruin it with Destiny-esque writing!
What a long "P.S."
