Super weird, bought Destiny today at Wal-Mart along with NHL 15. Disc won't read properly, but I can still load up NHL 15 and inFamous and all my other games....

I don't like the horde mode feel of a lot of the missions, where you just stay in a small place fighting waves of enemies while defending the ghost. I appreciate horde mode, but I don't think it's a good method for story missions to play out.

What? there lots and lots of dead ghosts in old russia alone, all unlocking more backstory. I really enjoy the games show, don't tell method of storytelling. It rewards exploration.

I LOVE exploring in this game, and am constantly rewarded with loot, glimmer and backstory.

The problem is there is no story without exploring. How many people are actually going to waste time doing that just to understand why you need to defend this room for the 15th time.

Needed some glimmer so decided to test out if the beta chest farming on earth still worked ;p couple of thousand glimmer, 10 greens and that ship's blueprint.

I've been doing the same, less glimmer than the Beta but still lots og items. Saving up for a nice ship, I had no idea you could get ship blueprints at all though, so that's pretty sweet. Gonna get back to it in the morning I think, get me my own if I am lucky.

Any reason to horde undecrypted gear? Someone recommended that earlier. Does it unlock a weapon for your current level, or the level you picked it up at?

I'm on the last moon mission and have no will to complete it for today as I am wiped out with the tedium of playing this game solo, I have no clue of the point to running into other people in your mission, you have no option to get them to join you and more importantly no ability to communicate with them .
How the hell is join public games not a thing in a online only video game?

The story missions are so disappointing so far, especially for who created the game and the budget. The mission mechanics are pure Halo

I'm loving the PVP thankfully, but for the love of gawd take a page out of SWTOR and give an option to quickly get to the next match without all the staging and cinematics

i haven't gotten this game yet, but in the beta if you click R3 when aiming at someone, you could invite them to join your fireteam

Hey DGaf! Been away for a few days and now we have an OT2. Destiny hype!

Question: Tonight, I tested purposely leaving a green (uncommon) engram on the ground during a story mission. Upon returning to the tower, there was no engram waiting for me at the postmaster.

So I'm assuming that was just an incorrect rumor? Has anyone else tried this?

Sorry if already answered.

There is a really great foundation here, but the story is just garbage. The game play and production values are Bungie quality, but the repetitive missions are just putting me off. MP is a weird beast, and I just keep getting my ass kicked so swiftly in fights. Its a good game, but what has Bungie been doing since Reach?

Good question. I guess making loot. Did they spend years imagining loot or designing DLc

It decrypts at the level you are currently at when you do it. For exams, save up the green engrams you get at level 2, and decrypt them at level 8 for a level 8 gun/armor.

It unlocks at your approx level. So you COULD horde

but its pretty much pointless imo. just open it up and use what you got. its not like loot disappears later on in the game. actually the opposite. and you'll never give a fuck about greens after a certain point anyways.

If you don't pick it up, you don't pick it up.

So, when you get a "Mission will end in x seconds" screen, do they still give you any loot you might have missed on the floor before the timer ran out?

Well Sony guys came through and I will get a refund. Just weird though, Usually when you purchase a game it doesn't prompt you to buy it again :o

Kinda wish the tower area just always loaded somehow in the background. Logging in for the first time after a break and spending time loading this area seems kinda ridiculous considering you probably want to come here.

If you don't pick it up, you don't pick it up.

That, and dismantling gives you important tools for upgrading.

I have it here unopened for PS4. I like loot games but some of the feedback makes me uncertain. I did not play the alpha\beta. What do GAF?

That's fucking bulllllllshit! My UPS status was just updated saying that the first delivery attempt was made and failed. I was home all day and the delivery driver never showed up. I was home all fuckinh day. It got too late and the asshole just decided that he didn't want to deliver it so he claimed to make an attempt. Goddamit. This is the last game I preorder from Amazon.

Sure man, i get that, but hows it different that diablo, borderlands or even running WoW bosses again and again. I just don't understand what peoples expectations are with this game. The backlash if baffling, people need to get their expectations in check.

The story telling (The emphasis on show, don't tell sets it apart, get out there and explore the story, its the world around you) and atmosphere are superb, gameplay is tight and it has lots of promise for a healthy future. Its cut from the same cloth as Halo with a lot of Diablo and some light MMO elements infused.

Its simple fantastic. Having spent about 25 hours between the alpha, beta and launch i can't wait to hit level 20 and see whats next.

I've read this on Reddit:

Just finished the story. This has got to be one of the most shallow stories in any FPS I've played. There are some really glorious set pieces on display here, but they are squandered in story mode. There are no engaging characters, and the two that we meet briefly don't ever show up again. We have no idea what their motivations are or why they have the allies that they do. Each mission asks you to do the same thing: watch over Ghost as he hacks a console. He then spurts out expository dialogue at you once he's done and then the mission is over. In games like Halo, even if you had no clue who anyone was or why you were where you were, you still had some entertaining objectives. Cross that bridge that is being assailed by gunships! Find your friend who is lost in a creepy alien city! Meet up with your squad and find what happened to them, explore the dark city.... But in Destiny, we are whisked away as soon as the next bullet point of the story is rattled off. There are lots of things that are brought up that we never hear more about or are never characterized. For instance,
early on we hear about the Warminds, and how there is still one active. I thought we were going to get another guilty spark character or something interesting, but it never comes up again. Likewise, we meet a mysterious stranger who is contacting a group of others we don't know about, but we never get to find out more. Then at the end of the game, there is a heartfelt moment between you and her
, but why is it even there? I don't know who that is or why I should care!

I have really enjoyed the game and I love the art, the universe, and the shooting. I especially love my Warlock Robes and cool weapons. But the story is a huge let down. It is about as shallow as Halo 4's Spartan Ops, with hardly anything to connect the dots. I'll keep exploring and doing strikes, but I won't be replaying the story.

Edit: I totally understand that PVP and raids and explore are major aspects of the game and that a story mode isn't necessarily a flagship element of the game. But honestly, I expected more from Bungie, who has had an excellent history of compelling stories in the Halo series and has established fantastic corridor shooting environments in the past.

Seems like I'm gonna spend most of my time at the Crucible.

tfw you beat a mission on hard difficulty with nothing but the hand cannon

#thebuffisreal

I had little interest in hand cannons during the alpha/beta but then I tried one out this morning and it's the only weapon I used for the rest of the day. Plz Bungie don't nerf it again.

The Tower and Orbit are sort of some Xzibit shit. Almost like a hub linked to another hub. Done with a mission? Go to Orbit to go to Tower so you can go back to Orbit. And it goes deeper.. The worlds are like really big hubs.

"We got some hubs in your hubs so you can go to hubs."
